Z'an

Z'an

Finally up to seeing visitors, the Weyrwoman remembered the brownrider and smiled to herself. So she had Orlaith bespeak his dragon as she waited in her weyr's sitting room. He could come when he was ready but she was going to finish breakfast regardless.

It was after breakfast that Z'an appeared and knocked on the door before poking his head in. "Rhosyn?" He flashed a grin. "Oh shards. You're decent after all. There goes my hopes for the day."

"If you call a robe and sandals decent, but it's a Weyr after all." He was looking healthy. There wasn't any food left or she would have offered him some. As it was, with the time change he had probably already eaten anyhow. "So as you can see I am alive." It was hard to tell unless one looked up close-but her skin color was slightly different in some places where it had regrown.

Stepping in, he looked over her and shook his head. "I see that. A bit...mottled, but still adorable." He gestured to a chair, asking permission before he took a seat. "You had me a bit worried, you know."

Nodding for him to sit, she put a hand down on the table, pressing her forefinger to the surface. "You weren't the only one, but I couldn't have the whole Weyr worried. There was no danger of them losing their Senior Gold who was full of eggs. None at all." Her gaze flicked upwards as she quietly stared at him, hoping he understood what she was saying.

He sat, stretching out long legs. He considered her for a long moment. "Good to know." He glanced at her lightly mottled skin and sighed. "So care to tell me what really happened?"

"Just needed to rest and heal up. The healers told me not to see anyone since I had a fever and it could make it worse so I did." She didn't want anyone to know just how ugly she had been or even what had happened. She didn't want to be called stupid-and it did seem rather dumb.

"Ah...well..." Z'an thought about it for a moment. "I suppose I can understand that. But I am glad you're better. I was worried that since I'd not heard from you that you were a bit upset with me from the Gather."

"Why would I be upset with you?" A moment of confusion came over her face and she found herself settling back into her chair and watching him. If he had come at another time in her life maybe...

His brows rose and a mischievous smile grew on his lips. "You don't recall calling me Zannypie?" His eyes glinted with humor. "You were a little...toasted." He chuckled and then his smile faltered. "And then...well...things got a little tense."

"Hmmm did I?" A light chuckle came out of her mouth as Rhosyn looked more animated than she had in days. A bit of a twinkle came into the corner of her eye. "To be honest I don't remember much after the dancing so I might have met Sean O'Connell himself for all I know. Tense? Tell me what happened?" Her brows knit together as she went through what
little memory she had.

Z'an stayed silent for a long moment. He didn't know if it was a wise idea to share with Rhosyn N'vanik's reaction. His lip pursed slightly. "Well..." He exhaled and then slowly told Rhosyn what had happened after he had found her. He kept it short and to the point, no elaboration or excessive blame pointed towards his Weyrleader, even though he was still upset at the reaction N?vanik later had. "But that's not exactly the end of it." He rubbed at his ear. "N'vanik would probably be furious that I'm even here. He didn't say it exactly, but I don't think he wants me around you at all."

Quiet while Z'an told his story, Rhosyn saw things through a lens that knew N'vanik's mannerisms and personality. Knowing that-she could see exactly why and how he reacted as he had. It also made her a bit warm inside to know that
he cared enough to get jealous over her. "At all? If that's the case he thinks you want more than being friends because R'enh and I are friends and he has no problems with it. Have you ever indicated that...you wanted more?" If he did, that might very well be news to her, but she kept a straight face as she sorted through everything. "Honestly, he'd have more to fear from R'enh than you. He and I were...well it's been a long while but we both remember." Indeed-the Wingsecond had been her shield from the brunt of the imprisonment she had been thrust into.

Unable to help it, Z'an chuckled softly. "I must be losing my sex appeal. I'm hurt." He shook his head then looked up at her and rolled his shoulders. "I can't say that I haven't had those thoughts or that it doesn't appeal to me." His lip curled upwards ruefully. "But I did tell you that I would be a friend only, didn't I?"

"But did you tell him _that_?" she asked, sorting it all out. **I haven't lost it thank Faranth** Rhosyn also remembered her earlier thought. If it had been another point in her life....

He blinked slowly. "When he chewed me out the next day, I believe I let that slip, yes. But I did tell him that we were simply friends and nothing more." He shrugged. "I don't know if he believed that or not."

"He would have on my end...your end-he doesn't know you well yet so doubtful. N'vanik isn't very trusting. Comes with a past history of being lied to often. I also think he's probably even more angry about the fact that when he told you to hand me over, you didn't do it right then." Her hazel eyes held a little bit of humor, though it was currently at Z'an's expense.

Lips turned downward. "I'm not a liar and he's flown Falls with me in his wing. He should have known me well enough." At her smile Z'an shook his head. "I'm glad you find this humorous."

"Ah well I'm feeling much better these days so I find myself wanting to be happy. No more lying around in bed being sick. You know you're not a liar, but he doesn't. Like I said, it takes him a long while before he trusts anyone. Took some months before he even trusted your Weyrwoman if you want to know." Hopefully that put things into perspective for
Z'an.

"Well," Z'an shrugged lightly, "I really don't have to worry too much about it. I asked to be moved to a different wing, so we'll not be working together much." He considered what she said, however, but the fact that N'vanik would consider ordering him away from Rhosyn or anyone else the Weyrleader may have shown interest in still rankled. "But I am glad you're feeling better." He offered her a lighter smile.

"Thanks. I don't really like being sick and actually I don't...things like that don't happen to me often so it was a bit of an experience for all concerned. I can eat again-which is a big plus as far as I'm concerned." Rhosyn wished that Z'an hadn't had to transfer and all that on account of her, but if that was best for him, then she supposed it might be a good thing. "Still happy you left Dragonsfall and didn't come to River Bluff?" A small chuckle escaped, further evidence that she was indeed mirthful.

At that, he laughed. "You all don't have as many scantily clad women here, you know. That was the pull, after all."

"Obviously you haven't been here often. I dress as scantily as possible for the simple reason if I didn't I would burn to death." The irony of that statement and her recent problem was not lost on Rhosyn and she laughed again.

Z'an gave a mock pout. "I haven't seen it yet. I feel so neglected."

"Again-your fault for picking the wrong Weyr. Now listen, other than N'vanik, how is everything going for you?" She was genuinely interested and she found herself taking advantage of having someone to talk to since she couldn't speak to either R'enh or N'vanik.

"Well, you could still show me you know. Let me know exactly what I'm missing." He gave a leering waggle of his brow and grinned wider, then shrugged. "It's going good, actually. About the same as normal. Nothing much has changed."

"Well that's good." She had long since finished her breakfast and it was quickly becoming time to get up and get dressed and get rolling. Now that she was recovered, she had visiting to do and she had a backlog of duties to
tend to. "Your fantasies are probably much better than the reality. Speaking of reality, I need to get a bath and get to my office. I'm behind after all of this..." Her eyes sought his and she hoped he knew she didn't want him to broadcast any of what she had said about her illness.

"Well, since you won't let me help you..." Z'an's voice trailed off and he rose. Stepping over to brush a light kiss across Rhosyn's cheek, he chuckled. "You take it easy, Rhosyn. And call Vicarth if you ever need anything." He suddenly grinned. "But I'll be around. Met a cute little thing last time I came over. And you know me..."

"Ah well, we could use a few more future candidates I suppose." Shaking her head at his antics, she watched him go and then began to get ready for her day.
