A Date for Turnover

Writers: Paula, Heather
Date Posted: 11th June 2013

Characters: Chaysea, Keayd
Description: Keayd asks Chaysea to attend the Turn Over festivities with him.
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 13, day 26 of Turn 6

Since Keayd had a clubfoot, he couldn't wear normal shoes and boots
without getting sore all over. He needed special, custom made foot
wear fitted to his bad foot. There were only few cobblers able to make
them, master-ranked ones and they were expensive. As an apprentice, he
hadn't afforded to such shoes and hall had come up with a arrangement
with him. Hall had helped him and they had come to an arrangement.

Whenever he need new shoes or boots, he told so to the Headwoman and
she sent an order for the master cobbler. Hall also paid them, Key
only needed to meet the cobbler for fiting ins. When they were
finished, he picked them up from the Headwoman's office. Now that he
was journeyman, he could afford them himself but the arrangement still
stood. It was so much easier for him. The cobbler already had his
measurements, so he rarely even needed to have them fitted any longer.
The only difference was that the prize was now taken from his salary.

Keayd had sent in order for new shoes for the Turn Over feast. He
received a note that his shoes had arrived, so that's why he was
knocking the headwoman's door.

Chaysea's head was bent over a few ledgers, her hand writing down the
figures in meticulous fashion. Her hair was pulled back in a loose bun
with tendrils escaping to curl around the edges of her face. She wore
a black dress, fitted in the bodice, but still notably a dress of
mourning in the passing of her late husband. It was customary to mourn
for a Turn, but Chaysea feared she would be sick of black far before
then.

When the knock came at her door she lifted her eyes up, "Come in."

"Good day to you, Headwoman," Keayd greeted when he stepped in. He had
always acted respectful and formal around her.

"Journeyman Keayd," Chaysea lifted her lips in a polite smile as she
gestured for him to have a seat,
"what can I help you with?"

"I believe my shoes have arrived," Keayd replied and took the seat.

"Ah yes." Chaysea remembered seeing the package. Standing from her
seat she moved across the room and opened the storage closet where she
kept "this and that" items. On the bottom shelf sat a brown package,
wrapped on twine with a note pinned to it that had Keayd's name
scrawled over top.

"I'll let you inspect them and let me know if they're correct."
Chaysea said as she handed him the package.

"Thank you," Keayd started to open the package. "Almost like a having
a birthday," he grinned.

Chaysea smiled as she watched him open the package, "And it's
something you know you'll like." She added as she took her seat behind
her desk again.

"Yes. Aren't they fancy?" Key pulled the shoes out of package. They
were black and polished to such shine he could see his reflection.

The Headwomab inclined her head, "They certainly do a good job on
them." Chaysea agreed, rocking back in her chair, "So, have you
concocted any new vintages lately for me to taste test?"

"Not yet, there's few new flavours brewing but it will be few months
before they are ready to be tasted," Keyad replied.

Chaysea smiled, the action causing the corner's of her eyes to
crinkle, "Good, I look forward to it then. I must say, being the
Headwoman of a vintner hall certainly has its advantages.

Key nodded. "So, what are you doing during the Turn Over?" he asked.

The Headwoman waved her hand, "I really don't have anything planned,
beyond making an appearance at the festivities of course." Knowing
Chaysea, she would probably eat, nod to a few people, and then retreat
to her quarters to read. While she wasn't shy, necessarily, she'd
never possessed the confidence to feel comfortable in a room full of
people that she barely knew.

"Do you want some company at the feast?" he asked shyly. He wasn't
sure why he asked, except she was attractive woman. Much older than
he, yes. But after her husband's death, she must be lonely. And Keayd
knew all about lonliness.

Chaysea found herself smiling at the invitation, "Are you sure you'd
want to take the boring old Headwoman along?"

"Why not? And you're not that old," Keayd replied bravely.

The brunette laughed, figuring that she had to be at least five to ten
Turns Keayd's senior. Chaysea could also imagine the rumors that would
spread when she showed up at the feast with the younger journeyman.
She could hear it now, talk about the old man's widow running around
with the young Keayd. Oh well, Chaysea mentally shrugged, she didn't
really care what others thought about her any way, she had always been
comfortable in her choices.

"Well then, in that case, I would love to." She smiled.

"It's a deal then," Key said. She had a beautiful laugh.
