Description: The Hallmaster checks in with the Headwoman
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 1, day 8 of Turn 7
Now that he was all settled back in, Famell made his way to find
Jylanya. He wanted to catch up with her and see how matters of the
Hall had been going. He knew that classes had been taken care of. He'd
already spoken to the Masters and other than a few small problems, all
had gone well.
He rounded the bend into the kitchens and saw her.
"Good morning Jylanya, would you happen to have a few moments to spare?"
Jylanya picked up her apron and wiped her hands to rid them of the
flour she'd been incorporating into a batch of bread. "Letika," she
pointed for the woman to take over for her. "Of course Master Famell,"
she smiled. Reaching behind her she untied the soiled apron and tossed
it over a chair as she followed him out the door.
"Thank you for taking the time to meet with my Jylanya," Famell said,
gesturing to a sitting room off the side of the main kitchens. "Why
don't we meet here?" He held open the door for her and waiting until
she was settled before taking a seat himself.
"I know I've been away _alot_ these past months. I first want to thank
you for keeping the Hall running and in order. I know my Masters and
other Dolphineers wouldn't have managed without you." He smiled at
her. They'd hardly gotten to know each other before he'd journeyed
North, and then around to the other dolphin pods. Famell was glad that
he was home to stay for good this time, other than a few trips here
and there.
"Well, we're certainly very glad to have you back sir." She smiled and
smoothed the front of her apron. It was a nervous habit of hers that
she didn't even realize she did.
"Thank you for that Jylanya," Famell replied with a kind smile. "So,
how have things been here? Any trouble or issues to report?" That was
most pressing on his mind, then they could deal with more trivial
matters if there were any.
"Of course Master Famell," she smiled. "Things have been going quite
well. We had an adventure with some trapped dolphins last month but
with the help of some seacrafters and dragonriders we were able to
free them and get them to the healers."
"I heard bits and pieces of that from various sources. Did we suffer
any injuries? I shall check in with the dolphin healers and get their
report on the situation," Famell replied, already curious to hear
their report. "How about the new apprentices? Have most of them
arrived yet?" The Hall was expecting quite a few for the start of the
new Turn. Have the ones who've arrived given you any trouble?" He
figured she would handle them well, but he wanted to make sure and see
if there was anything she needed to deal with the new arrivals.
"I think we've still got one in transit but the rest are here and have
their beds in the barracks." She smiled and winked. "They don't
usually mess with me more than once. They find they like to eat."
He chuckled. He knew she could handle them. "Good, good. So, is there
anything you need?" He knew her job required her to be pulled in many
different directions. It was important that he addressed any needs or
issues she might be having so the Hall would run smoothly.
"I have the healers coming up with an inventory of needed supplies
after recent events. And with the upcoming season, we'll be needing
some extra repairs as always." They had big heavy metal shutters for
their windows but hurricanes could cause unbelievable damage to
anything that wasn't protected inside the rock of the cliff into which
most of the Hall was bored. "We'll have to make the usual
preparations."
"How was your trip?"
Famell nodded as she spoke. She was well prepared. He was glad that
she had come to his Hall. She'd done great things since her arrival.
"Longer than I'd expected," Famell replied. "I never expected to be
gone so long. I missed being here. Overall though the trip went well.
The outlying pods are doing well. The dolphineers stationed around the
continent are doing an excellent job. In fact, after the meetings we
had at various times, many of them are returning home now. I'm
planning to send out new journeymen to replace them, but some need
refreshers and a break from the extensive duties they've had on their
own. So expect some new arrivals soon. I'll set up some of the
dolphineers to greet them, but we'll need to prepare some extra rooms
for their arrival." He knew she could handle it but it was best to be
prepared.
"Very good," she nodded. "Of course if we keep growing like this we
may need to think about opening up the third floor."
He chuckled a bit, "I'm not sure we're there yet. Once I send out the
other dolphineers to replace those who are returning, we should still
have room. Though, we may reach the point where we _do_ need to open
that floor. I'll trust you to let me know when we've reached that
point," Famell told her.
"Very good," she replied. "If that is all ser," she made to stand. "I
need to see to dinner."
