Description: The new dolphineer arrives at the Hall and meets the Hallmaster
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 1, day 10 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Irabel, Naton

Shilara lifted her hand in thanks to the Captain of the ship that had
carried her to the Dolphin Hall. She had come from the North after
Turns of study, and hoped to complete her training as a Senior
Journeywoman while at the Dolphin Hall. The location was certainly
making a name for itself, and she hoped that she and her dolphin
partner, Keila, could be of use.

"Journeywoman Shilara?" An apprentice questioned, stepping forward
with a hesitant smile.

"Aye, that's me." Shilara viewed the much younger girl with a small smile.

"We were told to take your things for you. Master Famell is waiting for you."

Ah, the Hallmaster. Shilara hoped to find the man someone that she
could work closely with and glean knowledge from. Hefting her carrisac
from her shoulder, Shilara handed it over to the apprentice, who
seemed a little surprised by how heavy the pack was.

"Sorry, I don't travel light." The journeywoman chuckled before
looking to the other apprentice.

"I will show you to Master Famell's office."

"Lead on." Shilara waved, following behind the apprentice as they
entered the Hall. She trusted that Keila was settling in with the
local pod, but would go out to the pier and check on her once she was
settled in.

"Here you are ma'am."

Shilara peered into the open office at the man behind the desk, "Master Famell."

Famell looked up from his desk and smiled.

"Ah, you must be Shilara," he stood, offering her his hand. He'd lived
many Turns in the North, and had a passing knowledge of the
dolphineers there even if he'd not expressing interacted with them.
Shilara was one such dolphineer. Their paths hadn't really crossed in
the Turns he'd been in the North.

"We're pleased to welcome you here. Come in, have a seat." Famell
gestured to a chair in front of his desk. "We've been expecting you. I
take it your journey went well?" Famell settled back into his own seat
and with a flick of his wrist dismissed the younger man to take her
bags to her new quarters.

Shilara couldn't help but admire the man's good looks, she wasn't
blind after all and it would have been hard not to notice. Perhaps
this new posting would turn out to be a good decision after all.
Taking the seat offered to her, she crossed one leg over the other,
swishing her foot back and forth idly.

"Excellent journey, fair weather held out the entire time." Shilara
was grateful for the good weather. Regardless of how good the woman
was in the water, the pitching of a boat in a storm still made her
queasy.

"Good, I'm glad to hear that all went well. I've done that journey
more than once, it can be difficult if the seas are rough," Famell
replied. "Has your dolphin partner arrived as well? I've already
spoken with the pod, they were expecting the new arrival today. Tafa,
my partner, if very good at helping new dolphins integrate into the
pod here. They've learned that changes are part of being close to the
Hall."

"I have not had a chance to check on Keila yet, I figured I would go
out to the pier later on and see her for a bit." Shilara knew that
Keila would settle in fine, she had not met a pod yet that her dark,
grey partner had not fit into.

"Very well, how about I give you a tour of the Hall then? Unless you
have any questions before I show you around?" Famell wasn't sure what
else needed to be said until she had a chance to settle in. He needed
to see her work, had read in the missive that she was working towards
her Master's knots. He, of course, was curious what her project was,
but that could be dealt with at a later time.

"A tour would be wonderful." Shilara agreed as she pushed to her feet.
She was anxious to get to know her new home and familiarize herself
with its people.

"As I am sure you noted on my profile, my specialty is in rescue and
salvage. I was wondering what other crafters I would be working with
here in the same field?" At thirty-eight Turns of age, Shilara was at
the upper end of the Senior Journeyman status, and was curious as to
the other crafters that she would be working with and how much
experience they held.

"Irabel and Naton are two of our more senior journeymen who also
specialize in rescue and salvage. They would be good to help you get
acquainted with some of the projects taking place here. Have you begun
any research and projects of your own?" Famell asked as he began to
lead the way out of his office.

"We're on the second level now," he indicated as they started down the
hall. "There is a third level, but we haven't had need to open it as
of yet."

Shilara did not say it outloud, but she hoped that this "Irabel" and
"Naton" turned out to be competent crafters. She held herself to a
high standard and expected the same of her peers. **Easy, Shilara, no
use making enemies.** She had to remind herself. Often times her
competitive nature nearly got the best of her. Shilara had not come to
the Dolphin Hall to be a teacher, although she certainly enjoyed
teaching, and she did not come to be a permanent Journeyman fixture,
no, she came to gain her Mastery.

"I have been researching, for a while, the methods of storm warnings
and predictions, correlated with the response time of the rescue
dolphineers. We can always be better prepared and respond faster, in
my opinion. There are also some things that I think we can do more
efficiently in the actual rescue as well." She said, although she did
not elaborate in detail, she had to save something for her report
after all.

Famell listened as they walked. "That all sounds very interesting and
also _very_ helpful. You may not be aware, but we are entering our
hurricane season around here. Not sure you've experienced the might of
the hurricanes we get down here. There have been months where it felt
like all we _did_ was prepare for the onslaught of the weather. It's a
terrible situation as we've often had seacrafters who get stuck in the
storms. What you're describing would be very useful indeed." He
contemplated it and was eager to learn more about what she had in
mind, but he would save that for future discussions.

He continued with the tour. "You've already seen my offices. Also up
here are the Hallsecond's offices and suite as well as the Master of
Apprentices. Down the hall a ways are some additional, smaller
quarters, suites and various living spaces for the dolphineers and
non-dolphineers alike. Your quarters are down there. I believe the
20th door. All the rooms are on the cliffside and therefore have
natural light. On this side over here," he pointed to the other side
of the long corridor, "are mostly storage rooms and the like. We do
have lighting in them, but they are less than ideal for living
quarters. Shall we continue downstairs or would you prefer to take
some time to settle into your room?"

Shilara waved her hand, "I can settle in later. I would much rather be
shown around by the handsome Hallmaster." She winked teasingly,
gesturing for the man to lead on. She already liked the design of the
Hall, especially with the natural lighting that would be provided in
her room on the cliffside.

He chuckled at her words. "You're too kind," he replied lightly,
"especially considering that I pale in comparison to you." He grinned
at that and motioned for her walk with him. He led them to the main
staircase and down the flight to the first level.

"Down here is all the _other_ stuff you'll need. We spend much of our
time here. The kitchens, classrooms, dining halls are all here, as
well as some of the other crafts. We've even managed to create some
inlet bays where the dolphins can swim directly into from the outside.
Some of them are actually down onto what we like to call the sea
level, but you can access them from here."

Famell led the way as they started walking down the corridor. It was
clear that these rooms had been altered considerable from the ones
above. While many of the rooms of the second level were the same in
size, here the rooms varied quite a bit.

"This was originally a SeaHold, so rooms were designed for different
purposes when it was created. We've managed to make them all work for
us, however." He grinned at her. "Anything in particular you would
like to see?"

Shilara refrained from saying that she would like a tour of the
Headmaster's bedroom. Perhaps when she knew Famell better she would be
able to joke with him in such a manner. As it was, the last thing she
needed was to get off on the wrong foot with her boss.

"I think you've covered all of the high points sir," she flashed a
small smile, "I should get out to the pier now and see how Keila is
settling in."

"Very well. I will look forward to meeting Keila as well very soon. If
you need anything Shilara, you know where to find me. My door is
always open to the people of my Hall," Famell said.
