Briata

Briata

Torr lazily opened his eyes, yawning and stretching. The sun felt so good
on his hide. He peered over the ledge of his napping place,
observing a flight of blue brothers and green sisters go winging passed.
Such silly little things! Torr took a moment to preen his own lustrously
bronze hide, then rose to the air and disappeared.

He burst into the apartment above Sefanya's head. She was busy drinking
something and chatting with another human, the dark-haired one belonging
to the little gold called Jewel. Chittering in greeting, he settled onto
the back of a stool and looked expectantly around for the young Queen.

From further within the weyr another chittering greeted the bronze. Jewel
appeared from the bedroom and landed on the stool beside Torr. She crooned
softly, then politely preened him.? Her neck craned as the gold eyed her
pet, then an image of a sunny spot on the ledge was passed along to the
bronze.

Torr unfolded his wings carefully, so as not to disturb his companion's
seating. Eyes whirling in excitement, he sprang into the air and
followed the gold /between/.

The gold landed on the ledge and then stretched.? She chirruped and then
began to twirl around as she prepared to settle down.? She stopped, patted
the stone and then yawned before she glanced over to the bronze while the
tip of her tail went to and fro.

Torr sat back on his haunches and vainly began to groom himself once more.
His bronze hide glimmered in the sunlight, and the shadow he cast was
twice his actual size-- something he appeared to take pleasure in, as he
repeatedly projected images of himself doing various activities, and
always these were accompanied by an oversized shadow. Most of these
activities centered around his ability to outperform other bronzes. He
kept one eye on the little gold as he preened,? attempting to gauge how
she was receiving his great bravado.

At first Jewel ignored the bronze.? The sun was so nice and warm, but she
had to admit, his fluttering finally drew her attention.? She opened one
eye and then the other.? She snorted lightly at the images he threw into
her mind, amusement coloured her emotions.? She inched closer to the
bronze and butted her head lightly against his wing.

Satisfied that his posturing had achieved the desired result, Torr gently
twined his neck around Jewel's. He crooned softly, settling onto the stone
and pressing close to the queen. He extended one wing over her, projecting
emotions of affection and contentment.

Jewel made a sound that was almost like a purr.? She settled down
briefly, relaxed beneath his wing.? Then suddenly she craned her neck and
looked toward the lake. The creature writhed out from under the
bronze's wing and made
for the water, projecting its image toward him.

Torr chased after her, delighted to show off his prowess in the air. He
climbed gradually as they made their way towards the lake. Then, when they
were above the water, he abruptly folded his wings and dove. He spent a
few moments beneath the gentle waves, enjoying the feeling of the water
against his hide. Then he lashed his tail powerfully and broke the
surface, looking around expectantly.

The gold had disappeared from sight.? She had been right above the bronze
as he had dove, but somehow she had gone.? Had she gone
/between/?? She didn't give much chance for the bronze to really try and
figure out what.? She burst from beneath the water, sending spray
everywhere and dousing the other firelizard.

Torr backwinged in surprise, churning up water and chittering indignantly.
His eyes quickened, but he tried not to let his offense show. After all,
the little gold was young. He rose into the air with as much dignity as he
could muster. The water glistened off his bronze hide as he hovered above
the gold. Chirruping cheerful, he projected an image of the same sunny
ledge they had left not long before, with the two of them curled up
napping on its warm, inviting surface. Then he set a leisurely pace
towards the wall.

Jewel snorted delicately and winged after him.? She pounced on him, did a
short trot on his back, then danced forward through the air to make it to
the ledge before the bronze.? Once there, she turned around and around
before she settled down with a soft purr.

Torr landed lightly. He had been surprised by the sudden weight on his
back, but he was quickly acclimating to the gold's antics. He
approached her softly and settled down beside her. He stretched his
neck out over hers, then yawned mightily. Happy and contented, his
eyes closed and he drifted off into pleasant sleep.
