A Meeting of Masters

Writers: Chelle, Ames
Date Posted: 9th July 2013

Characters: Relik, Famell
Description: Famell and Relik discuss their halls working together.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 2, day 26 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Morin, Naton

He had taken a quick sail down the coast to have a scheduled meeting
with the dolphin hallmaster. Naturally, the two of them would be working
together and Relik understood they could help each other. So the seacrafter
had made the journey, taking the time to familiarize himself with the coastline
as he did so.

Famell was waiting by the docks for the seacrafter. He'd been given a
heads up from some of the dolphins and dolphineers that a ship was on
its way towards the Dolphin Hall. He was expecting Relik to arrive
sometime soon, and assumed the ship was his. He was pleased that the
new hall was going to be opened in the South. It would be a big
advantage to both his craft and the seacraft for them to work closely together.

As the ship rounded the cliffs, Famell raised a hand to his forehead
to shade out the sun so he could get a better look at the ship and the
man he knew was onboard.

The craft landed out in the water and laid anchor. It wasn't long before a dingy
was lowered and a few men were seen getting into it. When it hit the water, oars
came out and began to row. It wasn't long before Relik reached shore
and disembarked,
looking about. He was dressed in worn trousers and tunic for shipboard traveling
along with shoes that better gripped the wood. "Famell, I presume?"

"Aye, You've got the right man," he replied, holding out his hand in
greeting. "You must be Relik. Welcome to the Dolphin Hall."

A bit older than the other Master, Relik did take his hand in a firm
shake, however.
The seacrafter's palm had calluses and other evidence of a hard
career, but his eyes
were clear as he surveyed the place. "Indeed. Never been here, though
I've sailed by it a time or two. I'm starving, though. Shall we?" The
quicker he was
able to sit and get his land legs, the better.

"Of course. If you'll follow me." Famell led Relik up the walkway to
the cliffside entrance of the Hall. Unlike most the entrance sat
rather high in order to be safe from the seas that churned below. Once
inside, the rather expansive two-story entryway was breathtaking.
Famell, however, had other things in mind. "The food is ready for us
in the dining hall." As soon as he entered, two kitchen servers jumped
to attention and darted into the back. They had been waiting for him.
Famell gestured for Relik to take a seat while the girls brought the
food to them.

Happy to be sitting, Relik took his time getting comfortable. When the food
started to come, it was even better. He was thirsty after all. "So what size
operation do you have here?" Relik was unsure about it since it was attached
to a Weyr and not a proper Hold, though he had heard why.

"We're doing quite well here actually. We've been garnering more and
more dolphineers over the Turns. Things are going well. We're even
considering opening our Third level which has been closed since we
moved in. Our numbers keep growing meaning we'll need more space
soon," Famell replied. "How's your Hall coming along?"

"Well construction just started, though the Lord Holder is pretty
quick about things.
We've only got a small crew on site just now as we get ready for when
I can bring everyone in. I'm trying to get all my specifics taken care
of while I
can though." Relik took a long drink of the water.

Famell nodded, "The early stages are exciting and also challenging. I
wasn't here when they were preparing the old Seahold to become the
Dolphin Hall, but I hear it was definitely an interesting time. We've
made it home, though, and it serves us well." He waited while the
other man continued his meal. There would be plenty of time for talk
once he'd had enough food and drink.

It didn't take long and then Relik settled back in his seat, ready to have
an in depth discussion. "Well as my message stated, I'm very interested
in working together since our crafts do compliment one another and are
traditionally linked to a point."

"That makes perfect sense. It would do our Hall good to have a
long-standing relationship with your Hall. We have dolphineers
stationed at many of the locations that have permanent ships, but the
amount of business we're talking about with the new Hall would be a
dramatic increase for us," Famell replied. It was good to do business
with the seacrafters. It would benefit the Dolphin Hall not only in
experience but in trade as well.

"What do you have in mind exactly?" he asked Relik.

"Well we can provide transport for you during rescue operations if you will
assist with those as well as provide escorts for some of our bigger vessels.
And of course I see us working together for salvage operations and charting
the depths." Relik knew with the dolphins that would be an easy task.

"That sounds fair. We can use the assistance to get our dolphineers
out to locations. We, of course, would be happy to assist in escorting
your vessels. We don't _want_ to have to turn them into salvage
missions because we weren't there," Famell commented.

"I'm open to any other suggestions you may have, but that was what came to
mind quickly. Of course if you had anything to trade with..." Relik was always
looking for trading possibilities.

"Well, we don't really grow our own food, so I can't barter with that.
We have a few small crafters here, but it wouldn't do much to trade
with. Truthfully, other than our services, the only things we'd be
able to trade would be the supplies we use in our own craft, but
honestly not many others are interested in the wetsuits, special
animal slings for water, lights." He paused, "Some of it may come in
handy for people like you who are also out at sea alot. I imagine we
could use much of what you craft as well, also cheaper expenses for
transporting needed goods to us would be beneficial for our Hall."

"Now see...the wetsuits and the lights.....I could do something with
that I think." Relik didn't know what he meant by lights, though. "Could
I see them?"

"Sure, I can have our Journeyman whose been working on them show them
to you. How long will you be staying?" He wasn't sure if he could get
Naton straight away as the dolphineer had been extremely busy.

"Well I was going to take a few days to visit with you and get everything
worked out as far as terms and communication and plans but then I will
need to go back." This was a quick trip, taking advantage of a trading run
already planned.

"Fantastic. We will be glad to have you here. Let me show you the
rooms we've prepared for you, then perhaps I can give you a tour and
introduce you to the Journeyman whose working on the lights we
discussed." This new partnership would be good for both Halls, and
Famell could not be more pleased with the way things turned out.
