Tavia

Tavia

Tavia stripped off Sawauth's flying straps and walked into the guest
tack room to hang them on a peg. She tucked her helmet and gloves into
the alcove and hung her jacket as well. Straightening her tunic she
made her way through the halls toward the Weyrwoman's office as she'd
been instructed.

She took a deep breath and knocked.

Hygalia had expecting the greenrider, and had instructed her gold to let
her know when they had arrived. "Come in," she called, pouring two cups
of klah for them both. "Welcome, Tavia," she greeted with a smile.

"Weyrwoman," Tavia smiled and nodded as she came into the room and
took a seat across from her. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

"You as well," the goldrider said, holding her hand out to her in
greeting. "Thank you for coming all this way today."

Tavia reached out to take the woman's hand in a firm handshake. "It's
no problem ma'am." Tavia had made up her mind that she wanted to
transfer, she just wasn't quite sure when it would be best.

"I appreciate it, just the same. I know it isn't exactly common for the
Weyrwoman to meet potential riders before they transfer... Klah?" she
asked, setting a tray with drinks and all the fixings in between them
before taking a seat. "But we don't exactly have the most common
situation."

"Yes please," she nodded. If things went well, this woman would be her
new Wingleader. "No we don't," she replied.

Hygalia waved to the two mugs, giving the greenrider first pick before
she took up a mug and began pouring milk and sweetener into it. "Is
this the kind of arrangement you always envisioned you would have one
day?"

Tavia almost snorted. "Oh no," she said. "I was raised in the Weyr but
I haven't seen anything like this before," she smiled and poured a
little milk into her cup and then stirring as she sat there for a
moment.

Hygalia studied the greenrider as she lifted her cup to her lips. She
certainly was very different from Aileyan. Older, for sure, but also
had an air of a bit more confidence. Like she knew who she was, and
what she wanted. "How do you feel about sharing U'kaiah with another
woman?"

Well that was a direct question but Tavia had not really voiced her
answer before, even in her own head. "It wouldn't be my first choice
ma'am. But he is the father of my child and I care about him. I know
it's possible to love more than one person at the same time so I'll
make the effort to adjust so that we can all be happy with the
arrangement." She frowned slightly to try and explain as best she
could what had happened to her. "It started out as just fun without
strings but when I turned up pregnant he really made an effort and
what we had grew to something deeper. I want to see where it goes for
both myself and our son."

Hygalia nodded her understanding. U'kaiah certainly had been attentive
to the greenrider. That much she knew. "I know I'm asking rather
personal questions, Tavia, and were you just three riders already living
here who decided to take on this arrangement, I wouldn't stick my nose
into your business. Your situation is particularly unique because the
ripples caused by a failure of the relationship could be rather far
reaching in this case." The goldrider wondered if Tavia might have a
grasp of what she meant, and studied her over the rim of her mug.

"I'm sorry?" Tavia's slight frown deepened into puzzlement. "I don't
follow you."

Hygalia explained. "Riders have trouble with lovers all the time.
That's just the nature of human beings. Even being caught between two
women is not such a rare event. History shows us how distracting that
can be, and when one rides a flaming dragon, distraction can be fatal.
But we can trust our Wingleaders to straighten them out and keep them
and those around them safe. But what if the rider in question _is_ the
Wingleader?" The goldrider wondered if Tavia had only thought of
U'kaiah as a man. It wouldn't be surprising since she didn't live at
Dragonfall yet. To her, his knots were most likely only decoration.
But to Hygalia, they were everything.

"Oh," Tavia thought through the ramifications and could understand why
the Weyrwoman would be concerned. "Yes, that would not be good." Let
alone if the two women were in the same wing. "All I can assure you is
that I don't intend to make waves." She wasn't quite sure how to
explain how important it was to her for Kaiavin to be near his father.
"I grew up in the Weyr," she said. "But of crafter parents who loved
each other and kept me with them. I want my son to grow up knowing his
father. That is important to me. I don't' see it as a competition if
that is the right word."

"I'm sure you don't," Hygalia quickly assured her. "I'm certainly not
wanting to stand in the way of your relationship. This is what U'kaiah
has chosen as the path to happiness, and I very much want to keep
U'kaiah happy for the afore mentioned reason." And for the reason that
the goldrider would not voice, but privately was convinced of - the
bronzerider would not survive the Pass, and if he did, he would not come
out completely physically and mentally intact. She wanted to extend his
leadership of Cyan Wing as long as possible. Who knew how long he would
last?

She continued. "And I also have a personal interest in the success of
your relationship. You and Aileyan will both be in _my_ Wing." Hygalia
would rather not deal with both a distraught Wingleader and two warring
riders! "Have you met Aileyan yet?"

Tavia smiled. "Sawauth and I have flown the queens wing for our whole
career. Once we learn your patterns I'm sure we'll fit in and yes,
Aileyan and I have met. It was a pleasant meeting and I think it was a
good start. At least I hope so." Whatever her personal reservations
her issues weren't with the greenrider and she had good reason to try
and keep U'kaiah happy.

Glory chose that moment to appear from /between/ and float to her
shoulder. Her eyes whirled a calm an happy blue green. "This is
Glory," she smiled.

"A very appropriate name," Hygalia smiled. "And I approve of the color
as well! How lucky to have Impressed a little queen!"

}:She's not impressive,:{ Genith sniffed, her pride stung a little that
hers might admire another glinting hide.

**I like her because she reminds me of you, and you know it you silly
thing, so leave me be,** the goldrider said, her lips spreading even
wider with loving amusement at her lifemate.

"Hopefully she's not as demanding as the full-grown version can be."

Tavia chuckled, "Oh she has her moments. I think she believes me to be
_her_ pet." Her fingers rose to the perfect golden hide and scratched
a tiny brow ridge. "The egg was a gift and I'm very lucky," she
smiled. "She's also quite protective. I have to be careful of my
emotions sometimes,"

"Ah," Hygalia pointed to her ear, putting the pieces together.
"U'kaiah's little incident?" she asked, realizing this might have been
where the notch in his ear had come from. He had been put on short term
medical leave after a flit attack a Turn back she remembered.

Tavia laughed "yes," She nodded and couldn't help the humor though it
hadn't been funny at the time. "He surprised me when I was asleep and
Glory misinterpreted it for an attack. It took a moment to call her
off."

Hygalia laughed. "Gold's can be rather protective and possessive."
That she knew all too well. "I trust she has learned better? At least
U'kaiah seems to be coming back whole."

"Yes," Tavia chuckled. "She has learned, and I've learned to rein in
my emotions at times."

They both could hear a soft knock. "A very important skill," Hygalia
said in response to her statement before calling, "Come in, U'kaiah!"
