Z'an

Z'an

The rumors had already come to Dolphin Cove, but not one to particularly pay
attention to chatter, Z?an decided to go to his friend and get the full
story. He was curious, true, but also concerned about Rhosyn. Vicarth landed
at River Bluff, greeting the watchdragon with a familiar cry. **Vicarth, let
Orlaith know we are here. Ask her if her rider is available for a visit.**

}:Vicarth and his rider are here:{ Orlaith told her rider from where she was
sunning on the heights, where she was clearly visible.

**Tell him I'm in the Records Room** Indeed she was. Rhosyn was working on
updating the Records after the Hatching. She'd had so much to deal with
since then that she was just now getting to the task.

Not as familiar with River Bluff as he was with Dolphin Cove, it took him
some time to find the room that Rhosyn had tucked herself into. Finally he
found the room and stuck his head in. "Well, hello beautiful." He flashed a
smile as he tilted his head towards her. "You have dust on your nose."

"Eh probably." She didn't seem overly worried by it. "Official Weyrwoman
duties you know." Otherwise she would not be in here. "You seem in
better spirits? than last time."

He walked over and swiped at the dust on her nose before shrugging. "Well,
your pretty Gelira does wonders for my mood." He glanced down at the
records. "Duty...better you than me. I'll stick to my wingriding, thank
you." He leaned back and tapped on his chin, looking at her. "So...I heard
some news...."

"My pretty Gelira? What do you mean by that? I swear to Faranth, she's going
to be one of my junior golds someday and you mess that up, I will skin you.
You hear me?" One of those pregnant temper flares showed up right then and
Rhosyn looked murderous. It was also true that she depended upon Gelira for
a lot, including some of her dragon duties at the present time and if she
couldn't..she didn't like the sound of that. If the girl were to go to
Dolphin Cove.... Her eyes started flashing again.

For a moment he just stared at Rhosyn, brows creeping higher before he
raised his hands. "Wait...whoa there, Rhosyn. Down...ease back a bit. Don't
attack. I happen to need my skin right where it is." The sudden swing of
mood would have almost been funny if it wasn't for that rather gleam in her
eye. "Guess those rumors about you with child are true, hm? Hormones flaring
a bit there?" He offered a conciliatory smile.

She might have refrained from leaping at him, but there was still a
suspicious look. "Yes I am pregnant. But I mean it. I have plans for
Gelira." Getting up from the table, she might have taken a step toward
him. In that moment, though, it was clear that Rhosyn had gained weight.

Z'an met her suspicious glare with a broad smile, nonplussed. "I'm sure you
do. She's got spunk and smarts." His eyes gleamed. "I like the girl. Not
planning to wrestle a 'future goldrider' away from you, Rhosyn, but I've
been seeing a bit of her lately." He tilted his head. "But that's not
what I'm here for, you know...I'm trying to check in on a friend." He looked
at her pointedly.

"Eh, it's just a baby. Many women have had babies. Okay maybe not women like
me who don't like babies. But maybe..it'll be okay. It's too far along now
anyway. So I'm having it. And then it'll be fostered and have its own happy
life." She was trying not to think about the labor part.

"Yeah. Just a baby." One brow arched and he shook his head with a soft
laugh. "As long as you're doing alright. I was...concerned."

"Why's that? Cause I got sick in front of the whole Hatching? Yeah I know."
She was still mad about that. Missing her own Hatching. Rhosyn made a soft
noise under her breath.

"That is part of it." Z'an rubbed his chin. "With you being ahem...ill
before, I just wanted to make sure that you were doing alright with all of
the changes."

"Changes? Like what?" She wasn't following what he was saying and it was
clear he would probably have to spell it out.

His voice was dry. "Well, we've already seen the hormonal changes." His lips
lifted. "Emotional, physical, etcetera. That's what I'm talking about." He
looked at Rhosyn and blinked. "Please tell me you've been around pregnant
women before or have at least talked with women who..." He gestured vaguely
with his hands. "you know...have been through it all?"

"Briata wants to talk to me but she's only done it once and she's always
happy so I don't trust that. Reeva and I will have a conversation soon. And
yes, I understand. I will be getting fat." She looked almost forlorn about that.

He wanted to slap his hand to his forehead, but only chuckled. "It's more
than fat, Rhosyn." His eyes warmed. "Pregnant women are beautiful, actually.
They glow. Some men..." He gave a rueful shrug. "Some men like that glow.
And it's not fat. It's being round and lovely and..." He shook his head.
"It's more than just appearance, you silly woman."

"That's what Y'gel said but I don't see loads of men standing around trying
to jump pregnant women." **And I almost had to push my breasts in N'vanik's
face** "And to make it worse, I want to jump them. All the time. And no one
seems to have a fix for it. My body is going willy nilly. I don't like it.
But it will get worse they say so I'm living with it." She picked up the
citronade on the table and drank some of it.

It suddenly occurred to him that he could always suggest that she
jump him, and he would have been more than willing to assist her in her
problem, but figuring her changing moods, perhaps suggesting it wasn't the
best idea. Instead he cleared his throat, trying to get that image out of his
mind. "Well, honestly, pregnant women usually want to be with the men that
made them that way. That's why we don't automatically jump." His teeth
flashed in another grin. "But don't think of it as 'fat', Rhosyn. I think
you'll be lovely."

"Well the men that made me this way both have other women so here I am." She
threw her hands up in the air. The goldrider knew it was her own fault for
choosing N'vanik. He wouldn't be able to come to River Bluff-well maybe if
he ever lost, but she wasn't stupid. R'enh was his only competition over
there and Mnoranth over Loseth.. She sighed and looked down at the ground.
"And you're off with some young thing who just grew a chest. So to shells
with the lot of you."

He couldn't help it. He threw back his head and laughed, shaking his head.
"Rhosyn....sweet Faranth woman. I have more than one. True, I like Gelira.
She's sweet, wonderful to spend time with, but I'm not attached to anyone
in particular. I doubt I'll ever settle down to properly weyrmate. You
should know that." He finally sat, chuckling. "Besides, if I made a play for
you, I'd probably find my head next to my body the next morning if your
N'vanik found out." His lower lip pursed slightly. "But if it had been me
that made you that way...well..." He grinned wickedly. "...you'd have my
full attention."

"Well he's there more than he's here. Probably still mad at me and all, but
he has duties. And my own Weyrleader has enough kids to field his own wing
so he's not worried about it either." She turned her attention back to what
Z'an was saying. "Does she know that?"

"Gelira's weyrbred, Rhosyn. We've not made promises to each other and I've
never led her to believe otherwise, nor has she led me to believe anything
more exists than it does. I consider her a friend as well, you know. I've
never pretended to be something I'm not." He shrugged. "She's not in love
with me, Rhosyn, nor I with her. We enjoy each other's company."

"I've seen weybred girls get upset just like the rest." And that was true
enough. "That girl has had so many disappointments." She ran a finger
through her hair, thinking about it. "Well to shells with Records.
I'm hungry. Are you hungry?"

"I'd never purposefully hurt that girl, Rhosyn." His grin faded to something
serious. "If you like, I'll make sure that we're straight on where we
stand." He paused, watching her hand and then let himself smile again, eyes
sparkling. "I'm always hungry." He waggled his brows. "What are you offering?"

"My stomach is not too particular these days. Let's go see what Solieira has
in mind." She walked up to Z'an and fell in step beside him. "I do think you
should make sure she knows what you know, though. Girls think different
things than men sometimes. I've done that too." And her voice went quiet as
she walked, thinking things over.

He shrugged and rose to walk beside Rhosyn, leaving the Records room as he
considered what she was saying. "I'll take your advice, Rhosyn." He blinked
and glanced at Rhosyn, wondering at the quiet in her voice. "Done what? Had
more than one lover at a time, or think differently?"

"Thought differently. Of course I've had more than lover at a time. That's
how I ended up like this!" She looked down at her belly and then shook her
head before looking at the ceiling. And then she laughed. She laughed long
and low and did it again.
