Vilarth bellowed when she came out of /between/, still holding the
injured blue. The blue's rider seemed to be unconsious.
** Call Aughashyth! ** Lenala ordered when Vilarth circled to land.
She could already see the staff run into position. Her first concern
was the blue. The Thread had reached Vilarth before they /betweened/,
she could feel the pain from Vilarth. It couldn't be serious though,
for the gold was now calm, after the first shock of being injured
abated. It had been just a stray strand form the larger clump that had
hit the blue.
Aughashyth bugled from where he usually kept watch over the Weyrbowl
and dove to follow Villarth down. }:Blue badly scored:{ he practically
bellowed.
Y'gel ran toward the entrance in time to see the gold touch down and
Falzeth slide from her back to the triage area floor. "Get D'arvn off
of him before they regain consciousness," he gestured to the larger of
his apprentices. The healers were already running up with a stretcher
to carry the rider a short distance away.
"Lenala," he called, "are you alright?"
"I'm fine, Vilarth's got a light hit! Take care of him first!" Lenala
replied. Opening the straps, she leaped down.
]: I'm a Gold! I should have priority:[, Vilarth demanded. Lenala
could _feel_ a queenly tantrum approaching and she suppressed a groan.
** Your life isn?t in danger, his is, you can wait, ** she said with
firm tone.
Y'gel glanced at the gold and could see it was minor and sent one of
his Senior Journeymen off to attend to her while he raced to plunge
his hands into redwart and grab the tools for probing the angry wound.
S'ret switched directions from the blue to the gold. Even before he
got to her side he could see they'd gotten /between/ before much
damage was done to the gold hide. That was more than they could say
for the blue. Nevertheless he probed the wound carefully removing
every bit of the dead Thread from her hide. The edges showed the
telltale burn but her hide was also dusted with char so he slathered
all around the wound with redwort to clean away the debris before
applying a liberal coating of numbweed. "She's lucky," he said to
Lenala. "She won't need stitches. Just keep it clean with redwort and
you should be in the air again in a couple of days." With that he was
gone to help Y'gel with the blue.
By the time S'ret got back to his side Y'gel had drowned the wound
with several buckets of water to make certain there was no live thread
deep in the score and slathered it liberally with redwart. Luckily he
didn't see any evidence of broken bones. But even after the
application of numbweed he could see ichoring and he shook his head.
"Looks like a severed vessel, Clamps" he called for the instruments
when the blue started to come around.
"Vilarth," he called urgently. "Please keep him still."
"Right, what do we have here?" a very calm M'galec asked, approaching
the group huddled around the injured pair. He had taken care of one
patient, and by the looks of things as they had lowered the rider's body
to the ground, another was in need of his assistance.
Falzeth's eyes whirled with gray/lavender as the blue awoke. Panic and
pain made him creel. }:Mine!:{
]: They should be paying attention to me! :[ Vilarth rumbled. Lenala
could feel her approaching a tantrum. She wanted to be fussed over.
** Vilarth! You're a gold, and as a gold, your _duty_ is to protect
those beneath you. So stop whining and do your duty! You have to
control Falzeth. Keep him from panicking, calm him down, reassure him
so the healers can do their jobs,** she had to speak firmly and press
with all her willpower. It was worse then blooding. Vilarth turned to
look her rider, eyes swirling. Then she turned to look Falzeth, and
Lenala could feel the protective mother-dragon instinct to woke up.
}: Falzeth, he's all right, or will be. Stay still, the healers will
help him and you, :{ Vilarth addressed the blue. Her tone was firm
and caring.
Lenala sagged with relief and leaned against Vilarth's neck. Disaster
averted, queenly tantrum avoided. Lenala knew they could loose the
blue if Vilarth misbehaved. And that would be far worse than botched
up Mating Flight.
Falzeth trembled with the effort to obey and rolled his eyes trying to
locate his rider. D'arvn was mercifully still out with a nasty bump
rising on his head.
Luckily for Y'gel and S'ret, the numbweed had taken effect and they
were able to get the ichoring under control with the clamps and some
quick suturing. Y'gel pulled off the clamps and there was no further
flow. So he once again cleaned the wound and closed it before
bandaging the wound.
}:Vilarth is in need of some sympathy:{ Aughashyth told his rider.
Familiar with the queen in question, Y'gel smiled internally and began
to fuss over her.
