W'ser

W'ser
Sasima

Sasima

W'ser was out of his office in record time that evening. He had plenty
of things on his mind, and one of them was a certain woman that had
inevitably wound his heart around her little finger. Sasima. A mere
thought of the woman brought a smile tugging at the Weyrdragonhealer's
lips. For the first time in a long time, W'ser had found something
that he cared about more than his craft. He had never understood, in
the past, when his friends would become so wrapped up in a woman that
it was as if they had fallen off the face of Pern.

The tables had turned on the brownrider, and now he found himself
irrevocably in love with Sasima. As nerve wracking as the possibility
of inviting someone to live in his personal space seemed to be, W'ser
knew that he was ready. He didn't want to share her with anyone. W'ser
wanted to go home in the evenings and find her in his weyr. He didn't
even mind if he came in and found girly nicknacks decorating his
masculine weyr. If that wasn't love what was?

W'ser had decided that if he was going to ask a woman to be his
weyrmate, then he was going to do it right. He had told Sasima to be
prepared for a date night out. He was going to take her to a local
tavern for some food and dancing before asking. Women liked the
romantic stuff after all. Dropping his work satchel off at his weyr,
W'ser changed into a fresh tunic, dabbed on some cologne, and then
headed to the woman's ground level weyr.

Sasima's tiny little room was spotless as always. Even though she only
spent enough time there to sleep on her narrow bed. Most drudges in
the lower caverns accommodations were similar in size other than the
young ones or candidates who slept in barracks. Crafters with families
and of course the fosterers had all the larger rooms so they could
care for the children of the Weyr but that had never been her calling.
She had always been quite careful _not_ to get pregnant.

Still, her life hadn't always been so easy and she was happier here
than she'd been in her life but that could have something to do with
her recent attachment to a certain brownrider. She'd thought about
W'ser far more often than she had about any other man she'd ever met
and that had begun to concern her. She'd been here long enough to know
how dragonriders went through relationships. If she let herself
acknowledge her own feelings then she'd be hurt when he finally lost
interest. This wasn't the Hold after all. It wasn't like she could
expect marriage. Sasima snorted as she donned her best dress. He was
taking her out tonight and that was a special thing.

Reh's orange eyes followed her from where she lay on the foot of her bed.

"You are staying in tonight Reh," she said firmly. "You won't be able
to follow me through the sky."

She was rewarded with a meow and she just chuckled. Her hair was
getting longer than she'd ever let it in the past. Since W'ser seemed
to like it that way. But now she wound it up on the back of her head
leaving curls around her face. "There," she said giving her hair a
final pat. "What do you think?"

"I think it is beautiful." W'ser's voice floated over her shoulder,
and he smirked a little as he crossed his arms over his chest, and
rested his shoulder against the entryway, staring at her beautiful
reflection in the mirror.

"W'ser!" She turned around with a big smile. With three steps she was
across the room and lifting her lips for a kiss.

The man happily obliged, pressing a warm kiss to Sasima's lips as he
slid his arms around her waist, "I have thought about you _all_ day."
He told her as he drew back and looked down into her captivating eyes.

"I like that," she grinned back up at him. "Where are we going?"

W'ser linked hands with Sasima and led her out to Branth, "It's a
tavern I like to visit when I can. You'll like it, their fish is
exceptional and it's built up on the side of the coast so there's a
panoramic view of the ocean." Helping the woman up to Branth's
neckridge, W'ser swung up into place behind her.

Sasima had been terrified the first few times W'ser had taken her up
on his big brown but now it was more familiar. Though she still got a
tingle of excitement it wasn't the flat out panic it had been in the
past. Feeling him there right behind her helped immensely. Then
/between/ enveloped them and her and a few heartbeats later they came
out to a gorgeous view. "Oh W'ser!"

He smiled when he heard her intake of breath, "Beautiful isn't it?"
His lips close to her ear. Branth took them down slowly, mindful of
the passenger that he had on board. A couple of other dragons lounged
on the beach and there were many runners tied to the hitching post,
evidence of the tavern's popularity.

Once they were safely on the ground, W'ser placed a hand to the small
of Sasima's back and led her inside, "Here we are."

She was almost overwhelmed by the beauty and so many people she'd
never seen before. It was almost like the first day she'd arrived at
the Weyr. So many strangers. But she no longer had to fear strangers
at all. For deep deep down where she just knew things. She knew W'ser
would always protect her. She smiled up at him as they were seated.
"This is amazing!"

"I know," W"ser smile as he pushed Sasima's chair in behind her and
then seated himself across the table. They had arrived just in time
for a spectacular sunset while they were eating.

She didn't quite know what to make of all the attention and marks he
was spending on her. No man had ever paid this much attention. It was
usually a quick tumble and off they went when they got what they came
for. For a very long time that had been fine with her. She didn't want
to become involved emotionally with anyone and create ties that would
only hinder her.

But W'ser changed all that. Sasima smiled at the sunset and at him
equally. Something in her heart was different. The waiter came and
presently their food arrived all in the rosy glow of the purple
streaked orange sky. She finally lifted her glass of wine her cheeks
ached from the constant smile, but she couldn't help herself. "Thank
you," she said. "This is my favorite night in all my life."

W'ser smiled, he hoped to give Sasima many more "favorite nights" in
the future. Now he had only to ask the one question that he had never
asked any woman before in his forty-two Turns of life. Licking his
lips, the brownrider glanced down at the scrumptious looking food, all
of which had lost its appeal now that his stomach was tied in knots.

"I am glad to hear that Sasima." Now he only had to ease into the next
sentence, "Sasima, I want you to know how special you are to me," he
looked up into her eyes, "I have never felt for anyone what I feel for
you." He couldn't imagine anything that he would not do for the little
brunette across the table, "I brought you here tonight, firstly,
because I thought you would love the view, and secondly, to ask you to
be my weyrmate."

She could see the difficulty he was having before he spoke and
suddenly she feared the worst. **He's breaking up with me.** Too many
times in the past she'd had kept met at arms length to protect herself
and had vowed never to let anyone inside her walls. Yet here she'd
done it with W'ser thinking he was different...
The dark thoughts sworiled around in her brain so she was shocked
speechless when he asked her to weyrmate and forgot to breath for a
moment.

"Really?" Her eyes popped open wide.

W'ser chuckled at the surprise that he read on Sasima's face as he
reached across the table for her hand, "Yes, really."

In her whole life there wasn't a thing she could remember that she
wanted as much as she wanted this. "Yes W'ser," she whispered and
nodded as tears filled her eyes. "Yes."

The man's face broke out into a wide grin and he released a breath he
hadn't realized he had been holding, "You had me scared there for a
second." He chuckled.

"You scared me first," she said softly squeezing his hand. "I thought
you were letting me go."

"Impossible." W'ser said with a shake of his head, letting Sasima go
was simply out of the picture at this point, "Luckily for both of us,
my weyr has plenty of space and ground level access." Since he did a
lot of work on the ground in the dragon infirmary, it only made since
that the Weyrdragonhealer's quarters have dual access.

"Yes," she agreed. "But you'll have to get used to me rising for work
early in the morning and Reh sleeping on the bed."

"I am not a late sleeper myself so that won't be a problem." W'ser
smiled, finding the idea of being woken up by Sasima was not a bad
one.

Her heart had swelled so full of joy she didn't quite know what to do
with the feeling. She started to giggle.
