Z'an

Z'an

Vicarth settled as Z'an slid off of his side. His attention was on his
rider, who scanned the area around him with an intense gaze that was
unlike his normal jovial behavior. The message that Gelira had wanted
to talk to him hadn't had the amused tinge that had previously been
the basis of any of the their communications and it worried him. He
paused; it may have been nothing. Maybe she just wanted to visit with
him? That brought a smile to his face.

She'd been waiting for him to come. She'd sent the message but hadn't
been certain when he'd be free to come. Gelira wrung her hands
together as she contemplated how she was going to tell him the news.
She'd told him to meet her at the dragonhealers when he came. She'd
barely been able to keep her attention on her task as she waited for
him to arrive.

He walked into the infirmary, looking about before finding her with
her back to him. A grin parted his mouth and he crept forward, tip
toeing before sweeping forward to plant a moist smacking kiss on her
cheek. "Boo."

She jumped at the word and the kiss. Her heart was already pounding
rapidly, but seeing him made it beat even faster. She had news for
him, but wasn't sure _how_ she was going to tell him yet.

"Z'an, I'm glad you're here. Let me just finish putting these away and
then we can go somewhere else together," she smiled at him, though it
was a slightly nervous smile. She wasn't sure how he would feel about
her news, but she knew she had to tell him.

One brow arched quizzically. "Are you alright? You seem off." His brow
suddenly lowered. "What is it?"

"Just wait," she told him, finishing up her task, then turning to take
his hand. "Let's go somewhere just us." She led him out the back of
the dragonhealers' cave until she found a good space that they could
sit and relax together.

"Here, this room should do," she said, pushing open the door to one of
the back rooms. She bit her lower lip a bit, rubbing her hands
together as she wondered how she was going to tell him her news.

He glanced around the small room and back at her. One brow rose high.
He doubted this was a liaison she had in mind; she was far too tense.
"Alright." The words was drawn out as if waiting for her to continue.
"What exactly is going on, Gelira? What's with the secrecy?" It
wasn't like the young woman he had gotten to know. "Is there trouble
of some kind?"

"Well," she took a breath and tried to calm her racing heart. "It's
not trouble. At least I don't consider it trouble." She licked her
lips and then grabbed his hand, squeezing it in hers as she looked
directly at him. "I'm pregnant, and trust me it's yours." The next
moments felt as though she was holding her breath, waiting for him to
respond.

The curiosity in his eyes grew to a troubled expression as she took
his hand and as she spoke, his eyes widened. A completely slack jawed
look of shock took over his expression as he felt his mouth go dry.
The only thing he could utter emerged. "Huh?"

Gelira chewed at her lip nervously while she waited for his answer and
even _after_ his answer. She wasn't sure if his reaction was a could
one or a bad one.

Starting to feel more anxious, she began fidgeting and repeated
herself. "I'm pregnant."

He blinked rapidly as the words finally sank in. Pregnant. She was
pregnant. And she said it was his. His mind attempted to wrap itself
around that. He probably had little tykes running around some where at
Dragonsfall, but his minor flings had never been serious and he'd
never been presented with any offspring. Now, he was being presented
with a coming child from a woman he enjoyed spending time with.

He swallowed to wet his mouth and stared at Gelira. "Pregnant." He
sounded dumbfounded, even to himself. "Uhm.." He ran his free hand
through his hair, mussing it. "Okay. Uh.." He floundered, something
rare for the quick witted, jovial man. He took a breath. "Wow. I..uh..
Really?" Of course, really. Gelira wasn't the type to pull this sort
of prank. "And mine..." It took a moment longer and it suddenly
struck him that he would be a father. He would know for certain that a
child was his. He was going to be a father.

He gave a sudden grin and a whoop before scooping Gelira up and
whirling her around.

She was almost starting to feel as though she was going to
hyperventilate as he seemed to stew over her news. Gelira wanted to
burst into tears, and she was often so good at holding her emotions in
check when need be.

But then, Z'an brightened and with a whoop picked her up and twirled
her around. Gelira started to smile and then giggle as she spun
through the air. She placed her hands on his shoulders to steady
herself and finally managed to ask, "So, you _are_ happy about this
then?" She paused, then quickly added, "I am."

He set her down and bent to press his lips quickly to hers before
pulling back, a wide smile still on his face. "I'm happy. Shocked...
but happy. Anything you need, I'll get you. Anything." He immediately
knelt to stare at her stomach. "Hey there, little guy...or girl...or
both, maybe... You've got an awesome set of parents. Beautiful mom and
your dad...absolutely charming."

Gelira just chuckled at his eager excitedness. She chuckled so hard
that tears started to seep from her eyes. These were happy tears. She
rested her hands on his head as he knelt before her. True, pure joy
filled her heart and soul in that moment.

"I'm so happy you're happy. I want this more than I would have ever
known. I want _our_ child to grow up happy, the way I did. I want you
and I to both be an active part of his or her life." She couldn't help
the happy tears that continued to fall from her eyes.

He looked up at her and rose, wiping her tears away with his thumbs.
"Hey. None of that. No crying. I'm not good with these wet things." He
bent and kissed her damp cheek. "Our child will. And I'll do what ever
I need to do to help and be there. I mean..." He frowned for a moment.
"I know I'm at Dolphin Cove and you're here, but you won't be doing
this on your own. As much as I can, I'll be here to help. You'll
probably get sick of me." He flashed a grin and there was mischief in
his eyes. "Except when your hormones make you very glad of my visits."
He waggled his brows.

She chuckled at that and replied, "You mean like now? I could use a
little time with the father while I'm feeling good." She grinned and
took his hand, leading him to a place she knew would be perfect.
