"Vykor, where are you?" She called into the darkness. She knew he was out there. If only she could just reach out and grab hold. The darkness swirled a bit and she could see his smiling face. Then it was gone again. She wandered on through the darkness of her mind, sadly calling. She knew she couldn't give up. If she did it was admitting he had left her.
For a moment she thought she saw him standing there in the distance. She started to run toward him only to have him fade as she closed the distance.
Tears fell unbidden from her eyes. She wanted to hear his voice again. Almost as if she willed it into being, she heard his words again. "I think it is time for me to leave. I can't do it anymore Nocte." The words whispered through the darkness to tantalize her. Why must he go, she desperately wanted to call out. The words caught in her throat as a sob escaped. She knew she was chasing a dream, but she wanted to hold on.
As she ran after hopes and dreams she tripped and fell to her knees. There she stayed as the tears came to blur her vision all the more. How could he have left her? What had she done? Why hadn't he given her the chance to make it better? Why did he have to leave the Weyr? Why couldn't he stay?
Her heart broke again as she realized she hadn't been able to keep him from leaving her. She awoke with a start, sitting up in her bed. The furs fell from her flushed flesh. Her hair was matted about her with sweat. She could feel the puffiness in her face without looking in water. She had cried in her sleep again. Running a hand across her face she threw the furs from her legs and stood.
She wished she could make the feeling of loss go away. The nightmare only seemed to repeat itself. He had been gone for nearly a month and she couldn't escape it. She had never felt like this in all her turns. She bathed and then went to her dragon. Quylith just curled her lithe body around her rider and encompassed her in her love. She didn't understand what was wrong, but knew it was enough to cause her rider pain. Hope flew in and landed on Quylith's shoulder. Her eyes whirled with the distress was getting from her mistress. It was enough for the small flit to crawl into nocte's arms and try to comfort her as best a small beast like her could. And there Nocte sat. Her small body wrapped in the love of her best friends, friends that would never leave her. Their love was enough to help her get her day started. Finally she extracted herself from them and left the weyr to find someone to talk to. She quietly made her way to the mind healer. The same one that had so often seen to Vykor's state of mind.
