For once there was no one in the bathing pool when she arrived. Of
course her schedule was far less arduous than others now that she was
so much closer to delivery. So she sank into the waters right were the
heated bubbles rose to the surface and massaged her aching back. She
wet some sweetsand and proceeded to wash her hair.
"Oh thank Faranth and all the stars for sights like this." Z'an looked
upwards and held his chest. He looked back down and blew a soft
whistle. "And thank Faranth for bathing chambers." He held his towel
around his waist, not making a motion to join the woman in the water;
he was enjoying the view far too much to move.
Pierka giggled and sank under the water to rinse the cleanser out of
her hair. When she rose back up the water only reached her chin and
she grinned up at the rider. "Aren't you going just a little over the
top?"
"Not at all." Z'an flashed a grin, his brown eyes twinkling merrily.
"Over the top would be serenading you with a heartfelt love ballad at
the top of my lungs." He looked around as if considering it. "Would it
work?"
He tickled her sense of humor and Pierka's smile broadened. "Well I
guess it would depend on the quality of your voice."
Without blinking, Z'an broke into song, his low tenor reverberating
pleasantly around the bathing chamber. The song started out plaintive,
mournful, a song of unrequited love, but directly in the middle of the
chorus, he switched it up.
He broke into a rather raunchy, romping, lisping falsetto, complete
with dramatic flares of his arms. Then, waggling his brow
suggestively, he twirled the end of his towel at Pierka, his vocals
deepening to a purr as the words began to drip with smooth suggestive
tones.
"Okay," she said at the end her eyes a little bit round. "I guess you
really _can_ sing."
"What? No applause?" Z'an gave a dramatic sigh. "The Harper in me is
utterly wounded." He untied his towel and stepped into the water with
a chuckle and a wink at the girl. "Z'an, rider of Vicarth."
Pierka couldn't help but laugh and belatedly applaud the impromptu
performance. Though her eyes slid away when he dropped his towel. She
was still young and relatively inexperienced despite her condition and
though she wasn't prudish by any means she didn't feel as comfortable
as some with nudity. "Pierka," she responded. "Of green Liddith. Are
you new here?"
He bowed from the waist at her applause. "Yes, vindication for my
performance. Thank you...thank you..." He slid through the water
towards her, but didn't press too closely; he'd noticed the flicking
of her gaze away from him. It was sweet, in a young sort of way. "It's
quite a pleasure, Pierka. New? Oh no. Not new. I've been here for
quite a few months, actually." His eyes were warm. "But it _is_ a pity
that I've not met you yet, obviously."
"Oh," her eyes lit up. "you must be in D'hol's wing!" She reached
around to rub the small of her back where it was aching. "I'm in
Volcano at the moment."
He inclined his head in agreement then tilted his head at her. "At the
moment? Have you been injured?"
"Oh no," she smiled realizing that under the water he couldn't
possibly see how pregnant she was. So she stood and let the water lap
at her belly button which was pushing its way out
Brows immediately rose and even more interest flared in his eyes.
"Well...well well well... You're even more lovely than I thought."
She just shook her head and sank back beneath the surface of the water
to soak up that hot jet and relax her spine if she could. "Well I'm
glad you think so." Personally she didn't believe it.
He took a step forward and nodded. "I certainly do." He leaned against
the pool wall, propping himself up with one arm. "Pregnant women are
lovely. Round and full of life. They glow. " He watched her with warm
interest. "You glow."
"And here I was just feeling bloated and awkward," she half smiled at
him. "You're good for a girl's self image you know?"
He put a hand to his chest. "I only speak the truth. I find the mother
of my child to be more beautiful than when I met her. It's the life
she has in her, I think." He smiled at the thought. "It's a special
thing."
"Too bad the father of my child doesn't feel the same way," she said
and closed her eyes to lean her head back against the side of the
pool. "But thank you," she smiled without opening her eyes.
At that, Z'an moved to stand beside her, looking at the woman with
surprise. "How can he not? There's a life that he put there. May I?"
He held up a hand and placed it on her swelling belly. "It's
beautiful."
"Alright," she said opening her eyes and giving a slight nod. The baby
was quiet at the moment but she never knew when it was going to wake.
He stroked her belly's rounded, taut skin, callused fingers gentle.
"The babe's sleeping." He'd often done the same with Gelira, exploring
the new swells of her stomach with a masculine pride, but it more
often led to more intimate exploration. He pulled his hand away. "Your
man is an idiot."
"No argument there," she smiled ruefully. "But at least I know who the
father is."
"Well, that is of course a good thing." He leaned back against the
wall, considering her. "So...are you two a couple?"
"No," she chuckled. She'd spent a lot of time thinking about T'nom and
there didn't seem to be any change in the way he felt about her,
well... maybe that sudden kiss out of nowhere, and their bit of fun
after her flight but other than that, nothing. "Unlikely to change
either."
"So..." He gave a roguish grin. " I don't have to worry about an angry
rider if I make moves on you then."
She just laughed and shook her head. It was a nice feeling. She
couldn't remember being quite this lighthearted in awhile. "Nope," she
grinned back at him.
