Description: Varija makes a very bad mistake
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 6, day 1 of Turn 7
Ever since Attiath's latest Mating Flight, Varija's thoughts had been
constantly returning to Z'an. It wasn't first time his brown flew hers
green and he had been very nice to her, called her love. He was
handsome looking man. It started as innocent daydreaming but soon she
got to her head that she and Z'an were a couple... or at least should
be. After all, he had been very affectionate towards her.
They were in different wings and had different schedules, so it was
not surprising that she didn't even see him for sevendays. And when
she did, what was he doing? Spending time with another woman.
In the dining cavern, Z'an sighted sweet little Naevyn and settled
into a seat beside her, putting his plate down. He shouldered her
gently. "Morning."
"Good morning," Naevyn still blushed, but something had changed in her
after the night she had spent with Z'an. It wasn't the shy, insecure
Naevyn that looked back at him, but just one honestly pleased to see
him. "What are you having?" she peeked at his plate
"Sausage and some sort of pastry." Z'an poked at it with his eating
knife. "It looks sweet, so I thought I'd try it. If I like it, I'll go
back for more." He grinned at her and winked. "A bad habit of mine."
Naevyn grinned a little at the double entendre, he was so nice to her
it was hard to doubt herself or his intentions. "Let me know if you're
going back for seconds, I might want to join you."
They looked so cozy together. Inside, Varija's envy and jealous flared
to a rage. She strode over to them.
"Who are you, bitch and why are you stealing my man!" she shrieked.
Z'an was about to offer a little more attention after evening meal
when an unholy shriek split the air. He whirled in his seat, eyes wide
and his jaw dropped open, both at Varija's words and her display.
Embarrassment warred with anger as he rose to his feet and hissed
through his teeth. "Varija, what in the shells are you doing? Sweet
Faranth, woman, I am not _your_ man!"
"You said you love me," Varija said with injured tone.
Naevyn had practically jumped from her seat at the other woman´s
accusing shriek. She involuntarily pushed back in her chair, away from
Varija. "I.. we.. we were just having breakfast," she managed with a
stutter. Already all sorts of possibly scenario's were running through
her brain and not one of those ended well for her. Had she made a big
mistake in this after all?
Z'an stared at Varija in utter shock before his gaze slid to Naevyn.
That shy girl had reappeared at the other greenrider's accusations.
"Don't Naevyn. You didn't do anything wrong. Varija did." For once,
the laughter in his eyes was gone, the brown gaze hard. "I never told
you I loved you, Varija. It was a couple of flights, nothing more.
You're embarrassing Naevyn, yourself and me."
"You belong to me!" Varija shrieked, completely out of reason.
}: Don't do this, again. Stop! :{ Attiath tried to reason with her
rider, get her out of it. Incident's like this had gotten them
expelled from several Weyrs. Attiath liked this one, and the males in
it. She wanted to stay.
"It doesn't look Z'an agrees with that," Naevyn didn't know where she
had found the courage, maybe in Eslith's exasperation at the
situation, or maybe in her memory of her night with Z'an, but she felt
a deep contempt for the shrieking lady, treating him like some kind of
property. She stood up from her chair, though she kept Z'an in between
her and Varija. "Why don't you try to calm down so we can talk about
this quietly?"
The scene she was making drew eyes to them, and Z'an did not miss the
hard eyes of his Wingleader finding him. Z'an grimaced and turned to
Varija, shoving her bodily into a seat. "Will you shut up? I don't
belong to anyone."
Varija picked a plate from the table and threw it at him.
}: No, stop. Don't do this. This is not you, :{ Attiath's attempts to
reach her rider became more desperate. The green was frantic.
The plate pegged him right in the temple, breaking skin and whipping
his head viciously to the side. Z'an clapped his hand to his head with
a curse, and stepped back, looking at Varija like one might look at a
rabid canine.
One of the wingriders got N'vanik's attention and pointed him toward
the commotion at the other end of end of the dining cavern. He stood
up to get a better view. Was that Varija?
Varija screamed insults at them and threated to throw more untensils.
}: Loseth, help me! She's not hearing me. She's not my rider just now,
:{ poor Attiath appealed to the highest authority she could think of.
Something clicked in Naevyn's head as she saw the plate impacting with
the man who'd been so very nice to her. She grabbed Z'an by the arm
firmly. "Let's go find D'hol. Now."
Z'an stood firmly between Naevyn and Varija, arms out to protect her
from any potential thrown missiles. When she grabbed his arm, he
backed away, still keeping himself between Varija and Naevyn.
D'hol approached from behind, his face stony. He grabbed Varija's arm
to prevent her from throwing anything else. "Z'an, Naevyn...go see a
healer. I'll come and see you momentarily."
Varija glared D'hol but didn't dare to attack him. Suddenly the rage
was draining out of her, leaving her limp, exhausted, empty and more
than little bewildered.
Naevyn still hadn't let go of Z'an's arm and now she tugged at it
gently, to get him moving with her to the Healers. It looked like a
pretty nasty cut and she'd feel much better if a Healer was tending to
it.
Loseth passed along the desperate plea from the green, and N'vanik
marched across the hall, getting angrier by the step. He took Varija's
arm from D'hol. "I'll take her," he told the bronzerider. To Varija he
said, "My office, now."
D'hol released the woman's arm and gave a brusque nod before turning
back to Z'an and Naevyn. "See Z'an to the healers and then I'd like to
see both of you.
Z'an held a hand to his bleeding temple and nodded, following Naevyn.
