Description: Gelira informs the two of her plans to go to Dragonsfall Weyr
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 5, day 9 of Turn 7
She'd been keeping her news to herself so far. She'd already started
organizing and packing some of her belongings. She would have to make
the move soon, but first she had needed to tell two very important
people in her life.
She'd sent Buddy, her firelizard to Z'an to invite him to join her for
dinner, and then had let Bahji know as well. Bahji had wanted to cook
for them, and Gelira wanted her there as well when she told them the
news.
Now, she just waited rather impatiently for them both to arrive.
There was a knock on the door and a little bronze firelizard burst
into Gelira's room with little chirrups of excitement. Burst circled
over Gelira's head, his tail flicking from side to side with good
humor as a drudge opened the door for the blind girl. Bahji was laden
with a large dish, steam leaking from under the edges. "Gelira? Can
you help? Burah has the rest. It's baked fish, and some tubers and
roasted vegetables."
A warm browned hand plucked the dish from the struggling drudge and a
boot kicked the door open from behind Bahji. "It smells good...Oh!
Don't drop it. Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you." Z'an's eyes flashed
with merriment. "Gelira, you might want to get over here before I give
your friend heart spasms. I'm afraid I snuck up on the poor girl." He
paused. "But I did enjoy the view from the rear. Oh..and she blushes
so well...."
Gelira _had_ been heading that way when Z'an arrived. Then she
couldn't help but chuckle as she hurried over a bit faster.
"Bahji, it looks like you've finally met Z'an. Z'an this is my good
friend Bahji." She reached for some of the trays to help lighten the
load. "Come on, both of you. We can put the dishes down on the small
counter here." She knew Bahji knew her way around the quarters as
she'd been there often enough.
"Good friend, hm?" Z'an's warm brown eyes flicked over to Gelira and
he winked playfully. "How good, exactly? Good enough for me to get my
hopes up? She's cute."
Bahji's face flamed brightly as she hurried into the room and set the
dishes down with a clatter. She nervously stroked her hands down her
skirt and turned her head towards their voices before clearing her
throat. "Uhm.." Her voice was a bit high before she managed to control
it. "Nice to meet you, Z'an."
Z'an followed her and set his dishes down before returning to Gelira
and bending to brush his lips over hers in a brief kiss. "Hey,
beautiful. You look rather glowing today. Hm...ah yes, that's my
fault."
"Bahji, don't let him bother you at all. Z'an is such a tease." Gelira
was grinning as she shook her head. She returned his kiss with a sigh
of pleasure. "The little babe is definitely growing," she told him.
"He's moving around more and more each day."
"Now then," she added, "Bahji wanted to meet you so she prepared a
special meal for us all. Let's go help her set it up. How can we help
Bahji?" Gelira asked.
Z'an bent to lightly rub his hands over the swollen belly with pride.
"I can tell." He looked over at Bahji and tilted his head. She was a
pretty little thing and if Gelira wasn't as indisposed, he might have
suggested a more intimate way of the three of them getting to know
each other. He shrugged it off and wrapped his arm around Gelira's
waist. "You sit. I'll help. Put your feet up."
Bahji smiled at the pair, her lips quivering in a smile at the way
they interacted. Gelira certainly seemed fond of the flirtatious man.
"It's all ready, we just need some plates. I'm afraid I didn't have
enough arms to bring them."
Z'an patted Gelira's rump lightly before moving to the cabinets. He
had been there often enough to know where she kept things and quickly
brought three plates to the table. "Go ahead and sit, Bahji. I'll take
care of it."
Gelira just chuckled and did as she was told. Taking a seat, she
propped her feet up. She wasn't about to pass up an opportunity to
relax. Z'an amused her. His lighthearted, easy going manner had helped
Gelira relax in her own way. She knew what they had wasn't anything
like what her parents had, but she found she didn't mind. She was
happy with the attention he doted on her.
"Come Bahji, come sit. Z'an can serve _us_ the wonderful meal you
made," Gelira patted the seat beside her.
Bahji found her way to the chair and settled in it, her head tilted to
the side as she listened to the light clatter of dishes. She turned to
Gelira and spoke softly, for her ears only. "He's not what I
expected."
Z'an hummed to himself, placing the plates in front of each women
before bringing the larger platters to the table. He served the food
deftly, giving Gelira larger portions than Bahji.
Gelira leaned in before Z'an arrived and whispered, "He's not what I
expected either, but he's been good for me." She gave a happy sigh at
that.
Soon their plates were full of the food that smelled so delicious.
Gelira was ravenous. She picked up her fork and dug in, eating in
silence for a few moments as she allowed the food to settle into her
stomach.
"I'm glad." Bahji slid her hand along the table to her plate and found
her fork.
Z'an sat on the other side of Gelira and without thought, put his arm
on the back of her chair as he plucked up a tuber and popped it in his
mouth. "Glad about what?" He peered at the two and grinned. "Ah.
Telling stories?" His grin widened. "What ever it is, I didn't do it
unless it was good. Then I did...and I probably enjoyed it."
Bahji blinked slowly. "Uh..okay."
Gelira swatted at him. "You're just confusing her. Stop it." But she
was smiling even as she said it. Z'an just had a way with life. He
brought light and joy no matter what may be happening.
As she plucked at her own food, she contemplated what she wanted to
tell them. "I actually wanted to tell you both something, which is why
I wanted you both here. You're two of the most important people in my
life here." Gelira paused as she looked to them both and then she
continued. "My da informed me of the new gold egg on the sands at
Dragonsfall. I want to go. I want to Stand and see if maybe I have a
chance to Impress this time."
Bahji went still and she blinked slowly while she wrestled with the
news. "You're leaving?" There was sadness, but acceptance in her
expression. "Well, if there's a gold egg, it's understandable. You
should try."
Z'an, however, frowned, the gaiety fading from his face. Gold eggs
weren't common, but neither were his first born either. "Will you be
able to?"
"Aye," she replied. "I've already checked into that. The healers say
it is fine. I can even go /between/ still though I'm to limit that
when I can. As for Standing, yes, I can Stand for the egg. I'm sure
there won't be any problems," she reached her hand to rest on his. She
knew many times the young dragonets could hurt one of the candidates,
but she would be careful.
Looking towards Bahji, she reached out her other hand. "I will miss
you most dear friend, but I have to try. And no matter what, I will be
back here. Sooner if I don't Impress or as soon as I'm allowed to
travel if I do."
Z'an's frown didn't ease, but he looked at her and nodded. It was
ultimately her decision, even if he didn't like the thought of her
facing that while so far along with their child. He understood her
reasoning, especially with the gold egg, but he didn't have to like
it. "Do you have a way there?"
Bahji teared up as Gelira took her hand and she nodded. "I know you
have to try. I'll miss you, but I'll hope for the best for you."
She nodded, trying not to let her own emotions overwhelm her. "Father
is taking me. Soon, so I'll have time to get settled and into their
classes and routines."
Z'an nodded slowly and his hand tightened on Gelira's. "I'll be there
when you need me."
"Thank you," she replied with a hint of emotion in her voice. Looking
to Bahji she reached her hand out so she held onto them both. "You two
are the most important people in my life here. I promise I'll be back
when the time is right. Until then, you'd _both_ better come visit me
at Dragsonsfall!"
