The flight was more of an eye-opener than he'd realized and it was time to
talk to someone about it. ** Can you ask Camilth if Paetri is available? **

Petrith yawned and asked }: Camilth, mine would like to see yours. Can he
come over? :{

Camilth answered promptly. }: Mine says you and yours always welcome.:{
There was a pause. }: As long as he is clothed.:{ There was another pause.
}: He's not naked is he? Because I think it would be kind of funny. We're
in our weyr.:{

D'ret stopped and stared as Petrith blinked quickly ** What? **

}: She said you cannot go naked. But Camilth thought it would be funny :{
She regarded her sister's words thoughtfully before shaking her head. }:
Mine will not be naked. He does not like Yours that way :{ she bespoke
them both which had D'ret rolling his eyes.

It was a good thing they were close, the walk wasn't long. Plastering a
smile on his face, he opened the door and called out, "I promise I'm not
naked!"

}: I know that. But Mine thinks yours would do it just to see her turn
funny colors. :{ Camilth replied promptly.

Paetri's weyr was one of the smallest, but it was cozy and had light
feminine touches in the decorations. Looking up from the couch, Paetri put
aside her tattered hide that she was writing on and offered a wry grin as
she gestured him in. "With you, I can never be sure. Come on in. I have
some juice if you want any."

He moved right to the juice and poured a healthy amount. D'ret took a large
swallow before he sat down next to her. With a loud sigh and soft belch,
he turned and grinned at her. "I do love to see you blush ... it's been a
while. I wanted to apologize for my ... inattention," he said with a
slight roll of his eyes. "Do you ever question your Impression to Camilth?"

"Ew." She poked him. "Burp the other way. You're almost as bad as Camilth."
Paetri smiled and shrugged. "It's okay. I've been keeping busy and..." Her
voice trailed off and her brows shot up at the sudden change of subject.
"What?" She frowned and tugged at her braid. "No. Not really. I mean, I
used to because I didn't think I could do certain things, but I really
don't think about that any more." She tilted her head. "Why? Did something
happen?"

That familiar tug calmed him a bit and he sighed, dropping his head back
against the couch. "Rademerth won Petrith's flight and I realized just how
much she's sucked me in, how I've lost myself. J'kri ... oh shells ... I
hurt him. All this time."

Her brows rose and she silently congratulated Rademerth for winning
Petrith's flight; he'd been so upset when he'd lost Camilth's. But then
her brows snapped down and her voice immediately gentled as she laid a
light hand on her arm. "It can get better, D'ret."

Blinking teary eyes, D'ret looked at her. "How? He's been seeing others,
hasn't he? I mean ... that was part of the point of my being distant. He
has to know all the possibilities, right?" This was all new to him,
relationships. What the shells was he thinking getting involved with
someone at the Weyr?

She flushed a little and looked down at her lap. "Well...yes. I'm one of
them, D'ret." She took a breath and looked up at him. "We've been spending
a lot of time together." She lifted her hands and gently wiped at his eyes
with her thumbs. "What do you want, D'ret? In your heart, what do you want?"

A strange little smile appeared at her confession as he processed her
words. Was he upset they were together? No, which was a relief. It was
kind of ... intriguing. "What do I want? Shells and shards, who has time
to think of that?" he asked then chuckled and kissed her palm. "I want
J'kri's love and for him to be happy. Whether it's with me or ... others.
I just don't know if I deserve it."

She looked at him for a moment, tilted her head, took a breath and then
calmly whacked him in the back of the head with her palm. "That's for
saying you don't deserve it." She pointed a finger at him. "You could make
him happy too, you know. You wouldn't let me doubt me, so I'm not letting
you doubt you. He wouldn't be happy with just a woman, just like he
wouldn't be happy with just a man. So...." Her brow knit a little bit more.
"why don't you be that man that he needs?"

"Oww!" The slap was a surprise but it snapped him out of his self-pity.
"The man? Do you know who you're talking to? Okay ... okay!" he said
leaning away to avoid another slap. "I think we can work on that. Are ...
will you be okay with it?"

Putting her hand down from its threatening position, she leaned back
against the couch. "I'll tell you the same thing I told him when he asked
me. It's part of who he is. I can't just pick and choose parts of him. He
likes men..." She eyed him. "...male greenriders just as much as women.
And you're my friend too, D'ret. I'd want to see you both happy."

"Where did the scared little girl go that first came here?" D'ret asked
with a soft smile. He was in awe of how much she'd changed. "J'kri's a
good influence. And you are amazing, Paetri. Shall we gang up on him and
talk things out?"

"Still here. She's just growing up." At his compliment, she reddened just a
touch. J'kri had said much the same to her over the past few weeks.

She thought about his suggestion and tugged on her braid. She didn't think
J'kri would be expecting it, but then again, he hadn't expected her to come
to him half naked the first time either and it had worked out well. "When
will you be ready for that?"

"That part isn't up to me. I'm ready anytime," he said with his usual
wicked little grin. "But I don't think we should wait too long. J'kri
will be thrilled with this idea, I'm sure of it."

"He'll be shocked." She replied dryly. Then, when he recovers, he might be
thrilled." She tugged on her braid as she rose. "Come on then, let's ambush
him."

"Now?" D'ret asked a bit shocked himself and looked at her with eyebrows
raised. He was beginning to think the pair had spent a bit more time
together than he realized. "All right, let's go."

Paetri shrugged. "If I actually sit and think about it, I'll change my
mind." She grabbed his arm and tugged him to his feet. "Besides, I'm going
to let you do most of the talking."
