Weapons practice was normally something Corran loved. When it resulted in injury, though, it became a lot less appealing. Something about the weather, the general mood of the Hold, and just having woken up on the wrong side of the bed meant that he'd been a bit too slow. He'd been tossed by another guard and landed all wrong, and now he was limping his way to go see a healer to do something about it.
He flopped into a seat at the infirmary and gingerly touched his knee.
"Next?" Chupsin walked into the room. He was short on apprentices since one of them had a family visit. Sighing, the journeyman hoped this would be an easy one.
"Afternoon, Healer. Landed on my knee bad and got sent over."
"Very well." He wasn't going to make the man walk any farther to an exam table. Rather, Chupsin came forward and kneeled down. His hands came out and he began to palpate the man's knee. No bones seemed to be broken. He could move it. So it was probably muscle issue. "We need to put some ice on it to reduce the swelling first. It doesn't seem bad, minor. Probably need to be on crutches for a sevenday or two. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst, how bad does it hurt when I do this?" He moved Corran's knee just so, testing things.
Corran bit at his lip. "Like a 4. Hurts to put weight on, not as bad as the time I broke my leg."
"Ah good that's not too bad at all." He explored a bit more then brought over some numbweed to put on the area. Taking away the guard's pain, he got some ice from an apprentice. Thankfully, living at Amber Hills in winter made it easy to get that when needed. "Keep ice on it for the rest of the night. Then we'll wrap it and you'll use the crutches for a sevenday or longer if it's still hurting." He nodded to himself and made some notes.
Corran sighed in relief when the numbweed started working. "Thank you." But the rest of the news was less pleasing. "I understand. I assume a report will be provided to the Captain?"
"Indeed. You'll be on light duty for a bit naturally. Come back and see me in a sevenday." Chupsin would have to examine him again and pronounce him fit when the time came. "So what were you doing when you injured it?"
"Combat practice. After all of the trouble lately, we wanted to make sure we were prepared. Since I'm small, I wind up getting used as the practice dummy for how to fight against small assailants - teenagers, angry women..." He offered a one-shouldered shrug. "I got tossed a bit far."
"Well I'm going to suggest you learn how to land then. Or only practice on mats with cushion to avoid injuries for the both of you." He would have thought that was self evident but maybe not.
He knew how to do his job, it was the other guy's fault - but he also knew that the Healer's suggestions were accurate, and nobody in the barracks was in peak mental condition right now. "I'll bring it up."
"Good man. Now go ice and get some rest after you leave here." He used his hands to wrap up the guard's knee. When he was done, he had a nurse bring over a pair of crutches. "Don't rest your armpits on them. Hold your weight with your hands on the crossbars or your armpits will be very sore."
Corran looked at them a little dubiously. He'd seen other people use them, and understood the need - but it felt a little humiliating, regardless. "Thanks for the assistance," he added.
"That's what I'm here for." It went without saying that Chupsin hoped the guards would take it easy. They couldn't afford so many injuries right now with Benani gone and everything else.
