Z'ku

Pierka rolled out of bed at the first cry and went to pick up her
little guy. "Go back to sleep," she said softly to the man in her bed.
He had drills first thing in the morning. so she would just take care
of getting the little boy settled again.

She turned a glow so she could see a little better and checked his
wrappings before anything else.

"Is he okay?" Z'ku muttered, half asleep. The first few days, he'd
jumped at every cry, but he was calmer about it now.

"Just wet and hungry," she said. Pierka could tell from her own
breasts that he must be hungry and her inspection told her he was wet.
She changed him quickly and then settling back on the bed propped up
against the head she began to feed him.

After a moment, Z'ku sat up to join her, watching the baby feed. "I
want this," he said quietly. "A baby... a family."

Pierka looked at him in the semi-dark. "You do?" He'd been everything
to her over the last couple of months. Taking care of her in a way
she'd never expected or demanded. She cared about him and wanted him
there but they'd never become close physically. She realized that was
probably mostly her fault and that she wanted him here... as part of
their lives.

"Yes. Maybe it's silly. He's not even mine, but I love him." He was
confused about his feelings for Pierka, but not about this.

She reached out to smooth Z'ku's hair all tousled from sleeping. "He
really is a sweetie isn't he?" She refocused on the baby. "We really
should give him a name."

"Do you have any ideas?" He felt odd coming up with something,
especially when it should include part of T'nom's name.

"Well, I know there should be something in there from each of us so I
was thinking about it and came up with a few but nothing seems to
fit." She paused for a moment. "How about, Pierzom"

"Pierz--" He looked over at her. "You want to put a Z in his name?"

"If you're ok with it," she was concerned. He might not want to add
his own initial but the baby would know who'd been the one to care for
him and his mother through this difficult time in her life. "I would
like to."

His eyes began to sting. Naming the child for him, when he wasn't the
father, or even romantically involved with her. "I... I would be
honored."

She smiled softly and leaned against him. "Alright then Romkaz?"

He dared to shift a little closer as his heart hammered. "I like the
'kaz' part."

"Hello Kaz," she smiled down at the little head nursing so hungrily.
"What do you think, Kaz." He squeeked and wiggled in her arms. "I
think he likes it," she grinned. "So... Kazom or Kaznom. But we can
call him Kaz and so will his dragon someday."

"He'll be a bronzerider, just like his daddy." Z'ku allowed himself a
moment of fantasy, that Kaz was really his. "But I'd still love you if
you Impressed green, or not at all." He knew the baby couldn't
understand a word of it, but that didn't matter.

"Yeah," she said softly and watched for a moment as the little guy had
stopped sucking. "He's asleep," she smiled. "I guess he just needed a
little snack." Then she moved gently to detach him and put him into
his cradle before slipping back into the bed. "I like that," she
smiled at Z'ku. "Kazom, what do you think?" She laid her head on the
pillow next to his.

"It's a good name." Then, before he could lose his courage, he leaned
over and kissed her cheek. Funny how he could bed women with hardly a
thought but a chase kiss with Pierka made him so nervous.

She smiled and leaned into the kiss then rolled against his chest and
put her arm over his waist. "Thank you," she said softly. She felt
closer to Z'ku than anyone else she remembered in her life. She hadn't
tried to figure out her feelings while she was pregnant. There was too
much mess around T'nom and Meledei and the baby that it was too hard
to sort it all out. But right here and now she just knew she was
extremely happy. She took a deep breath and hugged him.

Surprise made him stiffen for a moment before he hugged her back.
"You're welcome." Z'ku wanted to say more, to ask her... But it was
late, and he was afraid of what her answer might be.
