Making New Friends

Writers: Avery, Heather
Date Posted: 30th June 2014

Characters: F'aen, L'pin
Description: F'aen and L'pin get to know each other.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 8, day 4 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: D'naz

Chaneth wanted a bath, and he wanted to take one right by a pretty green.
L'pin laughed, knowing that some things were never going to change.

"Hello, F'aen, is it?" he said to the green's rider. He recognized the man
but didn't know him - hadn't been involved in the training of this one.

F'aen looked up at the sound of his name, and he forced a smile and a
nod in the man's direction, "Yes, that's right, and you are L'pin." He
stated. Having had a close relationship with D'naz, the
Weyrlingmaster's Second, F'aen new most of the Weyrlingstaff's names
and faces. Of course, F'aen mostly avoided those people now since
D'naz was usually with them.

"Indeed. Hope you don't mind that Chaneth seems set on bothering your lady."

}:Not bothering,:{ the blue huffed. He extended his wings so the water
rolled off them, glistening so Scarleth could see.

F'aen waved his hand, "Don't worry about it, I am quite use to it,
Scarleth is a huge flirt anyway." There wasn't even a rumble of
disapproval from the green at her lifemate's words because she was
already so taken in watching Chaneth. Oh yes, he was quite handsome!

}:Your hide looks lovely today,:{ Chaneth told her.

"How have you been doing?" L'pin asked.

At the question, the greenrider felt as if the scars left by his
not-so-distant accident were on fire, blatantly obvious to all how he
had screwed up in Threadfall. He licked his lips. **He is not asking
you about your scars. Just answer the question like a normal person.**
He told himself.

"I have been... Okay." He finally said. It was a little far from the
truth, considering he spent most evenings having a drink or working
his way into someone else's bed. Things just hadn't been the same
since D'naz broke up with him. **Stupid bluerider.**

"Good," L'pin said, not wanting to pry too much into a stranger's life.
"It's been an interesting few months, hasn't it?"

F'aen let out a pent-up exhale, "It has. I will be glad when things
settle out for a bit." The greenrider admitted.

"Once Panitath's clutch hatches, and the senior weyrlings graduate,
everything should be back to normal in the wings." And then his work would
begin.

"I do not envy you on that end," F'aen said as he watched Scarleth
duck her head coyly at Chaneth, the equivalent of a woman batting her
eyelashes, "I know that is when things get extremely busy for the
Weyrling Staff."

"It's going to take some adjustments, getting back into it," L'pin
admitted. "But I think we've got some good folk." Now, if he could only
not get attached.

Scarleth demurely ducked beneath the water and surfaced again to allow
the water to cascade down her hide, leaving her sparkling in the
sunlight, "Shameless flirt." F'aen chuckled, always amused by
Scarleth's bold interpretation of flirting.

"She's a pretty green and she knows it. You must be very happy with her."

"Yes," F'aen smiled, "I always knew that if I Impressed it would be to
a green. I have been very happy."

"I came to the Weyr to explore myself. Impressing wans't in the plan,"
he admitted.

F'aen looked back at the bluerider, an eyebrow raised, "Explore yourself? How?"

"I was pretty sure I liked men, but didn't want to do anything while
at the Hall. Being assigned to a Weyr seemed like a good way to figure
things out."

"I was pretty fortunate then. I was born at the Weyr," he smiled a
little, "can't even really tell you who my parents are. My youngest
memories are of the creche. I was always pretty free to be whatever I
chose." Some young men found themselves surprised when they Impressed
a green or blue dragon, but not F'aen, he had always known.

"Sounds like a reassuring kind of stability. I'm glad I lived at all
three places," L'pin admitted. "It helps me relate to people who
haven't always been so sure of themselves. Sometimes it makes me mad
on their behalf," he added.

F'aen understood that as well, he often had trouble understanding the
way some hold or hallbred people thought, "I am sure that experience
especially helps you relate with the Weyrlings then."

"I hope so. Our last few Weyrlingmasters have been weyrbred, and I
think it gives them a bit of a blind spot when it comes to the more
unique concerns."

"I imagine that it would." F'aen agreed, and then turned his head back
to Scarleth, who was pulling herself up out of the water, a clear
signal that she was ready to go, "It looks as though I am being
beckoned. It was nice talking with you L'pin."

And Chaneth was going after her when she went up. He just knew it from
the way the blue attentively stared at the departing green. "It was good to see you too,
F'aen."
