Characters: Zanie, Renner
Description: Zanie and Renner have an amused argument in the morning.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 7, day 18 of Turn 3

Renner woke to a loud bang, a muffled curse, and the loss of all of his blankets. The source of all three of these problems was revealed to be Zanie, who had somehow managed to roll off his bed and take most of the coverings with her. A head with hair sticking up in any number of unexpected directions poked up over the side of the bed and Zanie glared at him. "If you say _anything_ I will kill you."

"Is saying 'good morning' a capital offense?" he mumbled sleepily.

Zanie struggled to untangle herself from the blankets, nearly knocking his small bedside table over in the process. "I haven't decided yet. You need a bigger bed." She sounded extremely grumpy.

"Well, it was made for only one person to sleep in." He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. "And usually if there are more than one in a bed this size they are not sleeping."

Zanie made a face as she dragged herself back up into the bed. "Yes, well, no offense, but drunken proposals of marriage aside, I think I'd rather stick to sleeping."

"I offer no objection." **In fact, I would like to get back to that...** "How do you feel this morning?"

She tossed some of the blankets over him and snuggled back down into the pillow he'd found for her. "I was better before I woke up on your floor."

"You didn't hurt yourself, did you?" He asked, half concerned and half lost in the comfortable warmth of the blanket.

"I don't know." She gave him a sleepy smile. "I'll probably have bruises, but I always have bruises." And it wasn't like anyone would see them, after all...

"Just so long as your father doesn't suspect me of beating you while we were out on assignment," Renner said as he rolled back over onto his side to give her more room. It had felt nice to have so much space on the bed again for that brief moment.

"My father knows better than anyone how often I manage to bruise myself..." Zanie yawned and rubbed at her eyes. "How early is it, anyway? I probably shouldn't go back to sleep..."

"The sun is barely up. If it's up at all." He mumbled, the pillow pulling his head down further and further into it. "I don't know. I don't want to know."

For a few brief moments Zanie considered doing the same thing... but she needed her morning swim and it would be wise to slip out of Renner's room before other people started waking up in any case. She knew enough about gossip to know that _no one_ would believe that the comfort Renner offered her when she curled up to sleep next to him was purely innocent.

With a sigh she flipped the covers off of her and slipped from the bed. Stretching would at least give her a chance to wake up, and there was enough room between Renner's desk and his small couch for her to do her morning stretches.

"Are you going to go out for a swim?" he asked, still half asleep.

Zanie settled on the floor, stretching her legs out in front of her. "Yes, just a little one. You should go back to sleep."

He smiled slightly, his eyes still closed. "What's the matter? You think I'm going to try to drown you?"

Leaning forward, she grabbed her toes and felt the stretch in her lower back. "No, you just sound really tired."

"I always sound this way in the morning." He mumbled, turning onto his back and stretching out a bit more. "But going for a swim is a good way to wake up."

"Well, make up your mind soon!" Zanie rolled onto her back and pulled one leg up to her chest. "It's not going to take me too long to stretch and then I'm going."

"Uh huh," was Renner's only groggy reply.

She laughed and switched legs. "It's okay. I know you're an old man... you might want to sleep in today. Maybe you can keep up with me tomorrow."

"I'm just waiting for you to stop twisting your body into knots so we can get going." He mumbled, one eyes opened enough to peek down at her.

"These aren't knots," she scoffed, releasing her leg and sitting back up. The look in her eyes was highly amused. She twisted her body to one side and then the other before bouncing up to her feet. "Of course, if there's one thing I've learned by spending time at the Weyr, it's that I should never discuss with a man how flexible I am. I've learned that I'm very naïve and that it's apparently a very clear invitation for illicit behavior."

"Aren't you lucky I am not from the Weyr then." Renner's eyes help sleepy amusement in them. She was indeed flexible. And he knew all too well how the men she spoke of would find creative ways to use such flexiblity.

Zanie snorted, sitting down to pull her shoes on. Fleixble she was--graceful she was not. Cracking her head open on his desk because she couldn't keep her balance didn't sound like a good start to the morning. "I think I can trust you not to make any illicit offers. Now get your body out of bed if you're coming with me!

He snorted as he rolled out of the bed. He reached into the closet for two towels. "And do you have something to swim in hidden somewhere on that lithe body of yours? Or are you going to trust me in that as well?"

Glancing down at the baggy trousers and tunic she'd aquired from her father's closet at some point, Zanie grinned. "What I've got under this may not set the height of fashion, but my modesty is safe."

"Well, I suppose I should at least _pretend_ to protect your innocence," he said as he pulled out a pair of swiming trunks as well.

Zanie stood hastily and move to the door. "I'll be waiting at the entrance to the Hall. Don't take too long changing, or I'll leave without you."

"Yes dear," he said sarcastically as he pulled his shirt over his head.

She didn't _think_ he'd be pulling anything else off while she was standing in the room, but Zanie decided not to take the chance. Maybe he'd laugh at her for fleeing--but she could deal with a bit of laughter a lot easier than she could deal with a mostly naked Renner.
