Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 7, day 7 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Famell
Things had been a little hectic at the Dolphin Hall ever since Famell
had left on business. The Hallmaster had left Thayde as the temporary
Hallsecond in his absence, and Thayde had found that more and more he
had to be inside the main building handling issues, rather than
working out in the infirmary with the dolphins- which was his
speciality.
Today the newly promoted Master Dolphineer, was taking to the beach
for some much needed leisure time. He spotted Irabel already down on
the shoreline, and he waved to the other dolphineer as he approached,
"Irabel. How are you today?"
"Hello Thayde." Irabel greeted the newly made Hallsecond with a smile
as she paused in her wading. The water licked hungrily at her knees
and tugged eagerly at her feet, but she ignored its call for the
moment. "How goes it?"
"Good, I suppose, just in need of some fresh air for a bit." Thayde
responded as he came to stand beside her, his eyes looking out over
the water, "How are the skies looking?" He asked, knowing one of the
thing she specialized in was meteorology.
"I expect rain in a day or two." The clouds, what few there were,
remained high and wispy as they stretched across the sky gave no
indication of such an occurrence. "But nothing bad that I can discern
at the moment." It was all about the signs, the little things that
people didn't connect or notice. Irabel had been trained to notice.
Thayde nodded, crossing his arms over his chest, "Rain sounds fine,
just hopefully no hurricanes in Famell's absence." He grinned a
little. It felt as if they had been hit so by so many hurricanes in
the past few months and to have their leader away for such a period of
time was a little disconcerting.
"I've not seen anything to indicate that, and there's been no news
from the Dolphins." The weather had been more severe as of late, but
Irabel was hopeful that it would settle down into a more normal
pattern. "Did Famell say how long he would be gone?"
The Hallsecond frowned and shook his head, "No, no word on that. I
even asked Shilara," the woman's relationship with their Hallmaster
was no secret from anyone that had eyes, "and she said he hasn't
mentioned a specific timeline for return. It just depends on when they
get through, I guess."
"Hm." Irabel didn't like the sound of that. It could be something
completey innocent, but the fact that he'd gone with no indication for
how long spoke of a serious issue in the Craft that had to be
addressed - or a serious personal one. But then, if it had been
personal, then the craft most likely would have appointed a
Hallsecond, not Famell. "Well, not that I doubt you, but I hope it's
sooner rather than later." Famell had already had a long absence, and
to have another so soon really rattled the stability of the Hall.
Thayde could sense the disapproval in Irabel's voice and it made a
little smile tug at his lips. There was a misconception that all
dolphineers were easy-going folk who did nothing but lounge around on
the beach. That was a far cry from the truth. "He has much here to
return for. I do not think he will be gone much longer. If it makes
you feel any better, he and I had discussed the Hallsecond issue
before his departure... It just expedited the matter." The man's eyes
caught the glint of sleek dolphin hides as some from the pod came in
closer to the shore.
"Well, I can't think of a better Hallsecond at the moment." Irabel
offered a smile to the Master, then shrugged. "It just would be nice
to have things settled again."
"Have you been for a swim yet today?" Thayde asked, looking longingly
out over the water. Some times his duties in the infirmary kept him
away from the open water for longer than he liked.
"Earlier, but I can go out again. If you want company, I'd be glad to
join you." Irabel didn't mind time in the water and certainly not
time with the dolphins. Her gaze followed Thayde's, noting the
blue-green that shimmered with silver and gold under the suns. She
wriggled her toes to let them dig deeper in the sand, the waves
lapping around and burying her feet.
"Company is always nice on a swim." Thayde said as he stepped forward
into the water, and then looked back over his shoulder at Irabel,
"Come on. Since you have already been out once I will keep it short."
"Don't truncate it on my account! I enjoy it." With a grin Irabel
followed the Hallsecond into the water, slipping through the gentle
waves.
