J'darin

J'darin

B'vin hesitated at the Weyrleader's door. He wasn't happy about being summoned by J'darin, he didn't like the man and he was pretty certain the feeling was mutual, but he didn't really have a choice in the matter. He took a deep breath, pushing down his annoyance, and steeling himself for the coming encounter, knocked. With a sigh, J'darin looked up from his stack of work. Hasaarth had said who was coming and he had sent for him. But this had to be done...

He called out, "Enter!" And pulled his face into a slightly friendly smile, even though he did not much care for B'vin. "You wanted to see me sir." B'vin said as more of a statement than question once he had walked inside. "Have a seat B'vin." The Weyrleader nodded to him. "I've had reports from the Healers on your status, and I know you need to go on light duty. I have just the duty, and I really need your help." "Oh?" was all he could think of to say as he seated himself in front of the desk. The fact that the healers had been giving J'darin reports on him didn't really surprise him, but the fact that the Weyrleader needed his help for something made him a bit nervous. J'darin nodded warily, his eyes narrowed a bit at B'vin. He knew the man detested him. "Since you can't fly Thread for a time, I've decided to move you to the Weyrling's Wing until you're recovered. Y'sani is our new Weyrlingmaster though he hasn't been here that long yet, and he is going to need plenty of help adjusting. I think you'd make a great help for him and Xuxha in the meantime. Those Weyrlings are our future.

The Weyr's hope." B'vin couldn't speak. It was as if J'darin had walked over and sucker punched him in the stomach. J'darin didn't want B'vin's help, he wanted to humiliate him! It wasn't bad enough that Serenth had that scarring, no, J'darin wanted to rub it in and remove him from his fighting wing! "Surely, that isn't necessary." he said finally, trying to keep his voice calm and even, "Serenth will be fully healed in no time and then we'll be ready to fight again. We wouldn't be with the weyrlings long enough to do any good."

J'darin stared the greenrider down for a moment. "I don't remember asking for your opinion. I want no more accidents, and that means you help with the Weyrlings until the Healers pronounce you fit. You may drill with the Senior Weyrlings, they are nearly through their blooding time." J'darin looked at him a moment longer and his voice softened. "It is only for a short time, and I need stable, good riders there right now.
I don't know what Y'sani's plans are, though so far they seem good.
Please keep an eye on them for me." Inside, B'vin still felt like J'darin was doing this to punish him, to publicly parade him around as some weakling. But he was right, he hadn't asked for B'vin's opinion, he had given him an order and B'vin could do nothing about it. }: Do not worry, :{ Serenth said soothingly in his mind, }: We will teach the young ones to be good fighters and strong fliers. :{ Defeated, but refusing to show it, B'vin squared his shoulders to the Weyrleader. "Fine, I'll do my best. Is there anything else?" The sooner he could get out of there the better.

"No, there is nothing else. If you have any problems, please come and see me." It was the thing he said to every rider, no matter the color; although with this one, it felt _hollow_. With a sigh, J'darin turned away to his hidework, feeling unaccountably like he'd failed somehow.
