An Unwanted Tablemate

Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr

M'tais studied the new roster for the weyrling staff. The name of a clutchmate caught his eye. B'vin was being transferred. The brownrider remembered that he had been scored, rather badly. **I wonder how he's doing?** B'vin and he had not gotten along as weyrlings. Even before their impressions B'vin had cruel. The young man had found about M'tais's mother and father and been relentless in his taunting of the younger man. It still stung. }:Why don't you go see him? Serenth says he needs company. He's eating dinner:{ Woenth spoke up. The brown couldn't remember the things that bothered his rider but he wanted to help. }:You should eat anyway.:{ Taking his dragon's advice M'tias headed for the dining cavern. Even if he didn't meet B'vin he'd at least grab some food.

B'vin was eating alone in the cavern. He didn't have an excuse to take his meals in his weyr anymore since he could walk with just the barest of limps, but that didn't mean he had to socialize with the other riders either. The day had not been an easy one, and he was deep in thought, trying to block out the happier noises coming from all around him. So absorbed, he didn't notice the shadow that fell across the table nor his name being called.

"B'vin? Do you mind if I sit here?" M'tais was determined to be nice, no matter what was said.

"What?" he said looking up, annoyed at being interrupted, "I wanted to eat alone actually."

"I wanted to say I'm glad you and Serenth are doing better. It will be nice to have your help with the weyrlings."

He highly doubted that M'tais cared at all about him or Serenth, but since he didn't take the hint... "Fine, sit if you want, don't expect a lot of conversation out of me." "Thank you." M'tais took the seat across from B'vin and started eating his meal. He hoped the greenrider would say something at least.

But B'vin had no intention of saying anything. Instead he decided to eat faster so that he could be finished and leave the cavern before anyone _else_ decided to invade his personal space.

"B'vin..." Shards, what could he say to someone who had made his life so hard. "How is Serenth?" Dragon's where always a safe topic.

"Scarred," he said with his mouth full, not looking at the other rider, "Why do you think we got transferred." "She flies well right, Woenth tells me she said you go to the cove a lot."

He slammed the cup he had just lifted down on to the table, anger swelling inside him, "What are you doing now, having your dragon keep tabs on me?" "No, Woeth just asked her what she had been doing and she told him. Dragon's talk." M'tias was taken aback, reminded for a moment of his father.

B'vin had had enough of this _fake_ friendliness. He stood up, pushing the bench under him back hard, and grabbed his food. "Why don't _you_
just tell your _dragon_ to mind his own business!" he yelled as he stormed off, not bothering to keep his anger in check.

M'tais sighed, he wanted to make amends with B'vin but he realized that it would take some time."
