Chatter Among Friends

Writers: AL, Ames
Date Posted: 25th July 2014

Characters: Irabel, Aslvor
Description: The two journeywomen chat and make plans for an upcoming mission
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 8, day 4 of Turn 7

"Phew, what a tough day!" Aslvor declared as she plopped down beside
the other dolphineer. The two had become friendlier since Aslvor's
promotion to Senior Journeyman.

"We had two births, and two other dolphins come in with serious
injuries. I've been in the water all day hopping from one case to the
next. How was your day?" She turned, her brown hair flipping over her
shoulder as she looked to Irabel.

"It wasn't bad at all." Irabel let her feet dangle in the water.
Kerchek was not far, his fin cut through the surface of the water a
moment before it disappeared below, followed by a flick of his tail.
"Getting ready for my trip I'll be taking in a couple of months.
Making plans, that sort of thing." She cocked her head to the side to
consider the information Aslvor had provided. "The injury, was that
the young dolphin that go too close to a ship?"

"Yes," Aslvor replied, "He had a rather large gash on his right side
from getting caught by the ship." She paused and titled her head
towards Irabel. "What trip are you taking? I don't think you've
mentioned that before."

"I'm going to be mapping out some coastline further East. Some of the
hurricanes have evidently changed the layout of the land
significantly, and I might see if we can venture further, map out some
new territory." She'd be gone for a while, but when she returned,
she'd be that much closer to at least one of her Masteries. "I'll
also be noting weather and currents. The Hall's been compiling
information for several turns to get an idea of patterns. I'm not
going alone, though."

"That sound exciting actually," Aslvor replied. It wasn't her specific
area of interest, so she didn't often venture on long trips away from
Hold or Hall. Most of her work was done closer to shore when dolphins
needed aide, but there were always times they were out to sea to
rescue or aide an injured dolphin. "Whose joining you?" She asked,
curiously.

"At least one Master to oversee and a healer. Or possibly one of the
Masters who's a healer. I haven't been assigned one yet and probably
won't until about a month before." The team had yet to be assembled, but
Irabel was already organising and making plans. "It should be
interesting."

"Oh! You're taking a healer on the trip with you?" Aslvor queried.
She'd not been tasked with any such trips yet, but then she'd only
just been promoted to senior journeymen and many of those assignments
were saved for them. "So, what's the healer's job going to be?" She
asked, wondering if it was something she should push for for herself.

"Basically to be on standby in case anyone gets hurt." Dolphin
healers specialised in dolphins, but all of them were required to have
training in human care as well, even if it wasn't as extensive. "If
you're interested, I can put you down as one of the possible people to
come along. I get a small say, but I don't get a final say."

"I would like that. I would," Aslvor replied. "I've never done a trip
of that sort before. The last big trip I was on was the dolphin rescue
a while ago, but we didn't stay out long, not like what you're talking

about." It would be interesting to see exactly how Irabel worked on
such a big task. Aslvor studied mapping and other things in her early
years, but only had a cursory knowledge of the depth of what could be
done since she'd chosen healing as her focus.

"Well then, I'll add you to the list of those interested." It wasn't
going to be an enormous expedition, but several people had offered and
Irabel was glad she didn't have to go begging for others to join her.

"Sounds great," Aslvor replied. Silence settled around them for a
time. She just allowed herself to bask in the sun as her feet swished
in the water.

Irabel smiled and lay back, arms cradling her head. Things were going
smoothly and she would have a goodly amount of people to choose from
for the mission. All in all, it was a good day.
