Description: Ga'vin meets with his new Wingleader
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 10, day 14 of Turn 3
Having been assigned a new weyr and after having unloaded his belongings off Xalanyth, Ga'vin was finally free to seek out his new wingleader.
**Xalanyth, would you let Wingleader U'kaiah's dragon that I'd like to meet with him when he has a free moment?"
}: Kalamath. His dragon's name is Kalamath. :{
**Thanks.** The blue was very particular about remembering everyone's name. And their dragons' names. It had often saved Ga'vin from potentially awkward situations. But Xalanyth could be rather haughty about it. **Could you ask him please?**
}:Your new wingrider, Xalanyth's rider, would like to meet with you,:{ Kalamath dutifully passed along.
**Now?** U'kaiah asked, rather annoyed that it would have to be right we he thought he was through for the day and could relax. **All right,** he sighed.
}: Kalamath says he will meet you. :{ Xalanyth relayed after thanking the other dragon.
**Thanks. I'm going to head to his office.**
}: And I'm going to go sun. :{ And gossip, or flirt, or whatever the blue got it into his head to do. Usually make new friends which usually led to Ga'vin making new friends too....whether he wanted to or not.
U'kaiah waited patiently. Or at least he thought he was waiting patiently as he drummed his fingers on the top of his desk. Finally when the knock came he let out a relieved sigh. "Come in!"
Ga'vin opened the door and stepped inside. "Wingleader U'kaiah? I'm Ga'vin, new transfer, reporting for duty."
"Ah, yes, Ga'vin," U'kaiah said with a forced smile. He extended his hand. "Our new Searchrider."
"Indeed, Wingleader." He took the offered hand with a smile. "Xalanyth has a relatively high success rate of finding Candidates who eventually Impress. And he enjoys it, as do I."
"Well, that's important," the Wingleader nodded. "Of course you will be allowed the time you need to find Candidates. Hopefully soon we will have more queens."
"Indeed. I heard about the Weyr's...loss. And while I cannot even begin to understand the hurt the Weyr has suffered, you have my condolences.
Xalanyth and I will do all we can to find candidates suitable to Impress and fill the Wings, and hopefully find girls for those future queens."
The bronzerider wasn't sure why Ga'vin's sympathy annoyed him so. Maybe he was just sick of people's pity. The sooner they could all just move on the better... "Thank you. We are happy to have you and your lifemate here. Were you crafted at all?"
"Yes, sir. Journeyman Harper, specialized in composition."
U'kaiah nodded. "I'm a Journeyman Harper myself. Archivist."
Ga'vin laughed. "We'll have to swap stories, then, about our respective training."
"Certainly," the bronzerider smiled, though it was forced. "Have you found your weyr yet?"
"I have, indeed." Although he'd thought it best to report in before taking his time unpacking and touring the Weyr.
The wingleader opened up a file in his desk and began shuffling around the folders. "And you know how to find the dinning hall and bathing chambers, Weyrlake..."
"Now that might be a little more difficult. I haven't managed a grand tour yet." Ga'vin grinned ruefully. "I'm resigned to the fact that I will, doubtless, get a bit lost."
"Well, lucky for you, I have a map." U'kaiah pulled out a couple sheets of paper and slid them across the desk towards the new wingrider. "And there is also our drill schedule."
"Wonderful. Thank you." Ga'vin took the sheets and glanced at them thoughtfully.
"Do you have any questions or concerns?" U'kaiah was relieved that this interview seemed to be following the standard pattern.
"Not yet, and not really. I have a map and a schedule. I should be set for now."
"Well, then," U'kaiah smiled as he stood and extended his hand, "welcome to Dragonsfall, Ga'vin."
Ga'vin too the offered hand with a smile. "Thank you, Wingleader."
