Z'ku

Z'ku
Pierka

Pierka

Z'ku settled into the chair, rocking Kazom. The little boy was asleep.
Z'ku watched his peaceful face as he tried to gather his courage.
"Pierka?"

"Yes?" She looked up from where she'd been putting Kazom's clothing
back into the chest where they were kept. They'd just brought her
laundry back and she was busily putting it all away while Z'ku gave
her a small break.

"Do you ever think we could be more than friends?" His chest squeezed
as soon as the words were out. He'd asked Meledei the same thing and
she'd broken his heart.

She stopped frozen for a moment as thoughts whirled in her head. She
cared for Z'ku very deeply and she knew it. But she didn't want to
lose his friendship if he lost interest in her. She didn't really know
how to make that happen but then she didn't really know how they'd
gotten as far as they had already. She cared for him much differently
than she had for T'nom and with a much more realistic idea of what it
meant.

She walked over to where he sat with Kazom wondering briefly if he'd
really thought it through. Sure he slept with many women, he was a
bronzerider and that was what they did. But that didn't bother her
because that was the reputation of greenriders as well. Maybe they
could try and hopefully not lose what they already had in the process.

"I'd like to think so," she said softly placing her hand on his shoulder.

So she wasn't turning him down. He looked up to meet her eyes,
emotions playing across his face. "I... I don't want to lose this." He
glanced down to include Kazom. "But I want more. I've been sleeping
with half the women in the Weyr and it feels good for a little while,
but it's... empty. When I come to you at the end of the night--" Z'ku
swallowed. "It feels like home."

She smiled and squatted next to them. "I don't want to lose this
either Z'ku," she said with a smile. "Can you promise me... do you
think?"

"I promise we'll always be friends." He would promise her the moons if
she asked him to.

She smiled and then chuckled. "Well," she tilted her head. "We've been
sleeping together awhile now."

"_Just_ sleeping. Like an old married couple." That hadn't been easy.
To have her so close, hold her, and not do anything more.

She grinned and kissed him softly.

He made a surprised noise against her mouth and kissed her back,
pleasant warmth filling him. "I think we should put him in his crib."
He wanted to put his arms around Pierka instead.

"We do," She stood and lifted the sleeping baby from his arms and took
him to his cradle. There wasn't a peep or even an expression of
discontent as she laid him down.

Z'ku joined her, giving her a tentative kiss that was little more than
a brush of lips. "I don't want to rush anything, not if you're not
ready. We can start slow." He twined his fingers with hers. Part of
him was afraid she'd change her mind.

She closed her eyes and leaned in closer settling her hand in his.
"I'll have to check in with the healers and get my tea," she said
softly.

His heart raced. "We can start with kissing."

She felt warmth starting to replace the cold spot in her heart that
was left over from her prior difficulties. She put her arms around his
neck "I'd like that."

Z'ku leaned in to kiss her, his lips much more bold this time. She
wanted him, or at least she wanted to try, and that was more than he'd
ever had with Meledei. The goldrider's rejection might be one of the
best things that ever happened to him.

She responded to his kiss with a small sound of pleasure. He really
was a wonderful kisser. Her lips softened and accepted his boldness by
opening and deepening the kiss. In only a few moments she found
herself almost breathless.

He bit back a groan as his body reacted. "You'll talk to the healers
soon? Tomorrow?" Patience didn't seem as easy as it had a few minutes
ago.

"I promise," she said. "I'll go down tomorrow." she didn't want to
wait either but neither did she want to get pregnant again so soon.
How were they going to sleep tonight?

Thank Faranth. "If you'd like, there are... other things we could do."
Some of his partners had been eager to show him new things.

"There are?" She smiled, "Okay." She realized Z'ku would know far more
about that than she would with her limited experience. "Show me?"

A bolt of desire went straight through him. He cast a glance at Kazom
and figured he would sleep for a while. "I'd love to." He tugged her
toward the bed, pulse pounding all over his body. That she was willing
to try new things and that he'd be the one to teach her... it hit on a
fantasy he hadn't even been aware of.

She followed him willingly smiling as she went. This was a very
unexpected development from her point of view but it wasn't unwelcome.
In fact, she thought perhaps it was something she'd unconsciously
wanted. A family of more than just Kazom was a dream she'd had ever
since she could remember those first days after she'd woken up. How
many times had she fantasized about parents and grandparents or
sibling or two. But this... this was intimate and wonderful and she
couldn't help her grin as they climbed onto the bed. She definitely
wanted him to kiss her some more. He was very very good at it.

Z'ku gently pulled her shirt off, his head spinning. He could hardly
believe they were doing this. He'd seen her naked before and
breastfeed Kazom plenty of times, but seeing her breasts in this
context made it all different. Giving her a slow, deep kiss, his hand
brushed across her bare skin. Everything was different
