Description: Coran's first day back at work since his injury
Location: Green Valley Hold
Date: month 8, day 15 of Turn 7
She could tell from his expression how weary he was and the worry that
he might have gone back too soon hit her for the millionth time that
day. As soon as he entered, she rose to peck a kiss upon his cheek,
then lead him to the arm chair. "Do you want some water?" That was
important. It was also important to eat, but water was more so.
He had toughed it out all day as he worked in the infirmary. Aside
from the fading bruises on his face, Coran looked much more like
himself. The couple of broken ribs, however, were another story
entirely. Although they were wrapped they pained him immensely.
Sitting all day in the room, however, was simply not an option or he
would go stir crazy.
"Please." He whispered, not even signing as he gingerly took a seat, a
hand to his ribs.
Relea wasted no time but immediately poured him a glass then pressed
it gently into his hands. She waited until he'd taken a sip then
relaxed a little before she 'spoke' again. "Would you like me to
request dinner to be brought to our rooms?"
A little smile touched his lips as he used his hands to gesture, "You
are reading my mind." Relea had been nothing short of attentive since
his ambush despite his grumpiness.
Not quite. Relea could see the pain reflected upon his face when he
moved. If anything, she was simply trying to reduce his discomfort
and having dinner in their rooms would be one way to do that. She
offered another smile and rose. "I'll be right back."
Relea still didn't feel comfortable walking through the halls, so she
simply waited outside her door until a drudge passed, then wrote out
the request. Food sent for, she returned to her husband, wincing anew
at the sight of him. "I wish they would heal faster. Are you sure
you should be working?"
"I have to do something." He said a little stubbornly, "But maybe
tomorrow I will only work half a day."
That was better than the entire day, but Relea still wasn't certain he
should be doing any at all. "Is there anything that doesn't require
much physical movement that you could do?"
"Trust me, I did as much desk work as I could." There was really no
way to make broken ribs easier.
"What if I came with you?" Relea suggested as she resisted the urge
to get closer. Although she wanted to be close to him, doing so might
only cause him more pain. "I could help do some things, right?"
Coran reached out and squeezed his wife's hand, "There are apprentices
and other journeymen to help Relea. But thank you for the offer
sweetheart."
"Then get them to help more." Relea insisted after she squeezed
Coran's hand in returned, then released it. "You're doing too much.
Order them around. They can do your bidding for a while."
"If they did any more of my work then I would just have to stay here."
A smile tugged at his lips as his thumb stroked the back of her hand.
"Then maybe you should." It was more difficult to sign with one hand,
but Relea enjoyed the feel of his touch against hers. "Stay here."
Coran shook his head, "I need to get out. I can't stay here all the
time. Being around you without..._Being_ with you is... Hard."
"Is there anything I can do to help?" Relea had to release his hand
to sign productively. "Something that won't hurt you?"
The healer shook his head ruefully, "I am afraid not." He couldn't
even take a deep breath without pain.
Well, so much for that idea. "Then we'll just have to make up for
lost time after you've healed."
A glint came in to Coran's eyes, "Oh we will." It was a promise.
