Description: It's Attiath's Mating Flight.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 8, day 6 of Turn 7
Varija looked around herself at the feeding pens, surveying her domain
like she owned it. Right now, she and Attiath did own it. Glowing
brightly, the green was shredding a poor wherry apart.
** You could try to be little less savage, dearest. It's so brutish
and unfeminine,** Varija complained to her.
}: Why? They don't care. And I'm starving, :{ Attiath replied and
lifted her head long enough to see whose interest she was caught. She
was pleased see bronzes among those gathering around the Feeding Pens.
**Starving, yes, but not for _food_,** Varija remarked. She gave the
men welcoming, flirty smile and pushed forward her large bosom.
}:She rises! I chase,:{ Chaneth said. He swept over to the pens to
watch the green avidly.
**Shards, not again, I have class in half a candlemark...** L'pin
thought. But the pull of his blue would not be denied.
There was another blue that wanted to chase and Leith was never denied.
Used to his dragons' predilections, E'rae made his way to where he needed
to be. He didn't know the greenrider, not that it would have mattered. He
did note that she was female though.
Among the bronzes was Mnoranth watching Attiath hungrily himself.
R'enh trotted down to the flight rooms and entered the group gathered
around the rider. He nodded when she looked his way.
Z'ku sighed as he hurried to join the other riders. Varija had a bit
of a ... reputation. But he wouldn't deny Xemroth and the bronze was
determined to chase.
A third bronze landed near where Attiath was preening. Kopth's eyes whirled
with challenge-- and anticipation. This was the first green he'd chased
since his rider had moved to Dolphin Cove, and he wanted to see what the
competition was made of. His rider, meanwhile, set aside the sweepride
report he'd been working on with a sigh. A greenflight was not an unwelcome
break in the hidework.
Attiath suddenly abandoned the wherry and spread her wings. Sun glimmered
on her hide when she pushed herself into the air. }: Catch me if you can!:{
she challenged them.
Xemroth launched from the heights, trying to gain as much advantage as he
could. He didn't have the speed of a blue so every little bit helped.
Mayfeth had just come into the Weyr from transport duty, unceremoniously
dumped his rider off, and then demanded his straps be removed. S'avn had
made haste to follow his blue's order since the young dragon was clearly
set on chasing after Attiath. Ever since winning his first flight a couple
months back, Mayfeth had been nearly non-stop flying greens, or at least,
that was how it felt to S'avn.
Watching her head off, Leith was immediately launching and after her. He
didn't have to worry about stamina here. No, this was about the show
and the romance-as it was with all greens. The blue could definitely
outfly these bronzes and he knew that. Now, could he outromance them?
Whirling purple eyes wondered if they could. }:I am coming, lady
fair!:{
}:I am fast, are you fast? :{ Attiath answered and challenged him. She
found a air current that took her high, high above the sea.
Mnoranth leaped into the air with a mighty surge and wide sweep of his
wings. He was good at catching greens but the wily ones were most fun
because sometimes it was just about being in the right place at the
right time.
Chaneth leapt from the ledge and after the green. }:Impressive,:{ he told
her as she caught the thermal and rose up high, pumping his own wings
to try to find the same current.
Unlike past flights, Mayfeth took the quiet approach on this one. He
remained silent, know that his acrobatics, prowess in the air, and
gleaming blue hide spoke for themselves. He jostled amongst the other
males, every sense and nerve honed on the glorious green female in
front of him.
Xemroth managed not to fall behind, following Attiath as she climbed
higher and higher. A blue brushed past him and he huffed in
frustration.
Attiath flirted with them, darting in and then out, closing the gap,
letting them near and the speeding up to far ahead again. Suddenly she
dropped down, until the ocean waves tickled her belly.
Mnoranth followed her down part of the way but knew she was fast and
placed himself above the main group as they dove after her.
Chaneth didn't dive down, not wanting to catch her so low. He flew
along her path but stayed higher up, trusting that she would rise
again before being caught.
Blues and some of the bronzes dove after her, staying close to the
green. Xemroth had learned not to be so eager. A catch so close to the
water would be disastrous anyway. He followed her path but stayed far
above. One of the young blues misjudged and went splashing into the
ocean.
Attiath was actually surprised when someone took a plunge. The whole
idea of staying low was to avoid being caught before she was ready for
it. Some males were so stupid. But the time to end this was nearing.
Attiath angled her wings and started spiraling upwards. She gained
height fast.
There she was. Leith saw her heading that way but he didn't ascend.
No, he wanted to be under her, to catch her.
Still, the blue was close, angling where he could be ready. She'd be
able to see him certainly.
Kopth had stayed above the green, and when Attiath began to rise, so
did he. Disdaining the thermal she'd caught, his powerful wings drove
him skyward as quickly as she did.
Attiath had made up her mind. Twisting away from the bronze and brown,
she was heading to intercept the quiet blue's path. Who said the
ladies didn't like strong and silent type?
Mayfeth lunged at the opportunity to ensnare Attiath. He triumphantly
bugled as he quickly locked talons with the beautiful green, and
wrapped his midnight blue neck around hers and unfurled his wings to
glide them out across the Weyr.
On the ground S'avn shouldered past the other men, as eager to claim
Varija as Mayfeth had been with Attiath.
R'enh turned to the first female moth he came across and dragged her
into a nearby room.
