Description: Bryvin entertains a guest
Location: Sunstone Seahold
Date: month 9, day 12 of Turn 7
Settled into the chair across from Bryvin, Vestian took pleasure in
sipping the rich red wine that was offered. "I should be able to begin
your portrait this evening, Lord Bryvin, if you and your Lady are
amenable to posing for us."
"I shall ask her and perhaps we can sit for an hour or so with you
after dinner," Bryvin nodded at the Hallmaster. "Will that be
sufficient for your preliminary work?"
Vestian inclined his head. "Yes, it should be. The sketch will be done
tonight and I can start on the actual painting after I'm satisfied
with the sketch." He took another sip of wine. "Thank you for such a
fine vintage, Lord Bryvin."
"Of course," Bryvin inclined his head. The new Harper Hallmaster could
be a good 'friend' to have and he was wise enough to realize it. "I am
sorry your wife was unable to come with you for this visit Vestian. I
think she and Xeladrie could have struck up a friendship. But perhaps
next time."
At that Vestian's lips thinned. He did not want to think about the
passionless existence that he would be forced to return to. He took
another sip. "Perhaps next time. But unlike yourself I have been
married several turns." He swirled the wine around his glass for a
moment. "I find getting away from my wife on occasion to be
necessary." Vestian gave a half smile.
Bryvin chuckled. "That bad?" Not that expected the man to elaborate.
"Didn't I meet her at the wedding?" She'd seemed a rather lovely woman
if he was recalling correctly.
"You did. She's not a bad sort. Lovely and a good mother." Vestian
took another sip of the wine.
"But?" Bryvin just kind of let the word hang there in the air. Perhaps
he wished for some outside entertainment which Bryvin could likely
access for him. He thought of several different women with different
skillsets he hadn't personally accessed in some time. Of course he
could hook up something for his new friend the Hallmaster. Then
perhaps the man would feel some kindness toward Sunstone should a
return favor be needed in the future.
Vestian gave a half smile and finished his wine before putting it
aside. "Sometimes I prefer traveling alone for a more personal
experience."
And that statement rather confirmed what Bryvin had been thinking. He
would have a word with the appropriate party and make sure Vestian had
an exciting 'personal experience.' "I'm sure," was all he said though
the smirk would have let even someone less perceptive than the Harper
to read his thoughts. He rose and rang the bell. "Let me just order
some more refreshments," he smiled.
Vestian inclined his head. "Yes, thank you." He gave a slight smile of
his own, hopeful that Bryvin would be able to assist him in that
particular favor with discretion.
Within moments, Yriadha rapped on the door and then entered. She gave
a polite curtsy to Vestian, eyes flicking over him. If there was any
personal interest in the handsome man, it didn't reveal itself; she
was the epitome of class. As though she had anticipated their needs, a
pitcher of wine was clasped in one hand, a small tray of delicately
spiced pastries was in the other. Set the tray on Bryvin's desk. "You
had need of me, my Lord?"
"Ahh Yriadha," Bryvin smiled. "You always anticipate my needs." He
stood up with his back partially turned to the Hall master and the
look he gave her was smokey and intimate. "Thank you for these," he
turned a normal smile toward Vestian. "Have all the arrangements been
made for Vestian's stay with us?" he asked as he took a small plate
and put several of the pastries on it.
There was a polite smile, but a flash in her eyes that was only for
Bryvin and that Vestian didn't see. "You're very welcome, my Lord. It
is always a privilege to serve you." She turned to Vestian and
inclined her head. "Yes, indeed they have." Vestian's status had
garnered him one of the best guest rooms.
Vestian rose to nod to Yriadha. "My thanks, Headwoman." He took a
pastry for himself, ate it and his brows rose in immediate
appreciation for the taste. "And if you made these, I may well try to
steal you away for the Hall. We're in need of a cook such as you."
"Ahh," Bryvin smiled. "But as much as I like you Vestian, you may not
have my Headwoman. There are several of her skills I cannot do
without." He nodded politely to Yriadha. "I'm sure she'll have someone
check on you later to make certain you have everything you need. Poor
Vestian's wife could not come with him this time and you know how
helpless we men are without them."
That brought a proud little smile on Yriadha's mouth, but she managed
to hide the smugness in it. "You are very kind, Hallmaster." She
barely blinked at Bryvin and inclined her head in understanding. "Ah
yes. Of course. I'll make sure he is well cared for, my Lord."
"Excellent," he said and turned away as though she didn't concern him
at all though he'd love nothing better than to bend her over his desk
right now. He was very aware of what marvels she could perform with
that prim and proper mouth. A half smile curved his lips as he sat
again across from Vestian. "I'm sure you'll have everything arranged."
Vestian rose, giving a formal bow to both of them. "I thank you both.
I will go and gather my things."
"They have already been gathered, Hallmaster. There is a drudge
outside who can take you to your rooms." Yriadha gave a brief but
polite smile. She turned to Bryvin. "Will my Lord require anything
else?"
"Not at the moment Yriadha," Bryvin said without looking at her. "My
wife and I will be sitting with Master Vestian for beginning a
painting after dinner but when we're done I'd like to speak to you for
a few moments about your daughter."
That brought a slightly furrowed brow that was quickly masked. Which
daughter? And why? "Of course, Lord Bryvin."
Vestian arched a brow but made his farewells, meeting the drudge outside.
"Thank you," he said and moved back around his desk to finish his
drink and read a report that had been delivered earlier in the day.
Feigning indifference behind his desk was the best until later this
evening when the rest of the hold was going to sleep.
