Releasing a mentee simply so they can "get rank" will result in a severe lecture from the Council and possible removal of your status as a mentor. We have had too many difficulties in this area to allow any leeway.

If mentees want to get off mentorship quickly and think they know their stuff, they are welcome to produce posts in enough quantity to get off mentorship. It is not the mentor's responsibility to ensure they write enough to complete a mentorship before certain ranks open up. Triad Weyrs has far too many differences from other clubs to allow leeway in Rule #3. Just because a member can follow the rules other clubs does not mean they will immediately grasp the intricacies of the scenario and rules woven for Triad.

What is the mentorship program?

Our mentoring system is designed to settle newcomers to the club snuggly into our midst. The club has a complex and unusual scenario, as well as a strict adherence to book canon of the later books. Mentors are hand-picked by the Council as having an excellent knowledge of book canon, club canon, and rules, and an ability to work with a new member in an even-tempered and timely manner.

Guide for Mentees

All new members will remain under mentorship until their mentor is confident that they have a solid grasp on club rules, canon, and posting etiquette. There is not a certain time frame in which this will happen.

Most Mentors will release a mentee when:

  1. They've released 3 consecutive posts to the mailing list that did not require any form of edits
  2. They feel the mentee has a thorough grasp on the way the club functions

The leadership of Triad Weyrs respects the intuition of our mentors, so at any time a mentor may contact the Council with any reservations as to releasing a new member from mentorship even after the above criteria have been met. The Council will review the information presented and decide whether an extended mentorship is warranted.

Guide for Mentors

Examples of corrections:

  1. Failure to fill out the header properly - (Who, What, When, Where)
  2. Canon problems of ANY type.
  3. Failure to follow club rules or procedures.
  4. Having to correct a mentee more than once on one of the above rules.

Mentors should not release a member from mentorship if any of the above are in question.
