Physical Description of Persona:
T’gyrlan wasn’t born in the cold heights of Dragonsfall. He is a man of River Bluff and looks to be born out of the warmth there and, at some point, absolutely drenched in sunlight. Everything about him is a bit golden. His skin is a sunkissed tan from obsessive hours in the training yard. His hair is a rich blond mane, curling back from wide, angular cheekbones. Even his eyes, deep set and hooded, are a strikingly light, almost amber, brown.

He doesn’t look like a recently grounded rider. He’s in fine, fine form. While his dragon was injured he’s had little to do but pour all his considerable energy and time into staying in shape, ready to return the the wings the moment Hanassath became able. So these days he’s tall and gloriously fit and practically vibrating with the verve to act. To do something, anything. He has the charismatic, pansexual allure of a man who seems perpetually on the verge of action, in the throes of some great thought.

Emotional Description of Persona:
T’gyrlan is a roiling reserve of pent up energy, tamped down by circumstance and convention, festered by tragedy. He’s been through a lot. Not only did he lose his home weyr, River Bluff, in a freak disaster, he also was badly injured shortly after transferring to Dragonsfall and ended up grounded for almost four Turns. Sidelined, without the ability to fly or flame, he watched his friends and family fight for their world and their lives. For a proactive man like him, it was torturous. Now he’s finally rejoining the action and he is burning to prove himself.

He used to thrive in the wings. Before his injury he was an ideal young officer: a passionate, demanding, engaging man. A true people person who always felt more grounded, more alive within the fraternity of the flight, the warmth of the wing. He needs a place he’s needed in and people he’s needed by. That’s why his grounded Turns were so hard. He’s at his best when he has some great conviction to navigate by, a cause to aim for and channel all his energies and time into… to derive his worth from. He needs pride of purpose. That is the force that drags his moral compass about and keeps him out of trouble.

When he lost his purpose during his long convalescence, his enthusiasm turned to frustration. Frustration at himself, his circumstances, even his lifemate at times. It was a difficult and dark era that saw him acting out, picking fights, and generally tarnishing his hard earned reputation. Now that Hanassath is flying again, it remains to be seen how T’gyrlan will adjust and which aspects of the man will come out on top.

History of Persona:
Life really began for T'gyrlan when he met Hanassath on the sands. Before that, he was just another River Bluff weyrbrat, raised by the community at large. With Hanassath, well, he became One of Them, the Dragonriders, the elite few that the weyr -- the world -- seemed to revolve around.

He was only fourteen and the prestige of the position hit him far more than the responsibilities. Thread seemed a lifetime away at that age and he spent a long, leisurely time just… growing up. Just gadding about and enjoying the freedom and marks that came with dragonriding. He knew his duty in a childish sense -- that he and his would be risking their lives for the sake of Pern -- and assumed he was owed a certain amount of deference and favor from holders and crafters. It was, to be honest, more a happy sense of entitlement than any real malice… and the thoughtlessness of youth.

For almost a decade, T'gyrlan enjoyed a relatively frivolous, carefree existence.

Bronzerider A’kades put a stop to that. One of the stricter riders of the Interval, the veteran saw something in young T'gyrlan. Even as others in leadership were ready to write him off as a waste of space, A’kades took him into his wing and “under” his wing.

“Fly or fall, boy.”

It was fly or fall, sink or swim. T'gyrlan wasn't used to the work, the responsibility-- but he _did_ enjoy being a part of something, something bigger than a lark with his gadabout friends, something bigger than himself. A’kades impressed upon him the notion that, to play hard, he must _work_ hard and-- that he was _needed_. Many of the traits that had served him so well among his friends and playmates made him a promising young officer. He was extroverted and empathic. He _cared_ and _devoted_ himself to people and causes. With the help of A’kades and, really, the wing-family as a whole, T'gyrlan came to appreciate his position for more than just the flash and dash of it. He _liked_ the person he was for them, he _liked_ his daily pursuits to have more purpose than a moment's thrill. He was _happy_.

From then on, he thrived. Even when Thread returned, he did not break. He weathered the injuries and mourned the deaths and became closer and closer with his fellow riders.

But it’s one thing to die actively fighting a foe. It’s quite another to be unexpectedly killed in your own home. Things had been going well. He had recently been raised to wingleader of his own command when River Bluff was slammed in quick succession by an earthquake and a tsunami, T’gyrlan lost his home and all too many friends and family in one fell swoop. He was assigned to Dragonsfall Weyr in the ensuing reshuffle of River Bluff forces, a mere wingrider again, but before he could really settle in a second and more personal tragedy struck. He was involved in a high speed, mid-air collision with a wingmate during Threadfall. (Combining River Bluff and Dragonsfall tactics had some growing pains). The other rider pair died from their injuries, something that haunts T’gyrlan to this day. He recovered quickly enough himself, but that was almost a punishment as Hanassath did not. So T’gyrlan was left with all too much health, energy and time on his hands for four long Turns. He tended and supported his lifemate the best he could, but it was agony to be stuck on the ground, hale and hearty, while his friends and colleagues fought for their lives.

When the dragonhealers hesitantly offered a risky surgery as an option, T’gyrlan was desperate enough to take the chance. It paid off. Late in Turn 11, Hanassath was finally able to fly without pain and the pair were eventually cleared to rejoin the wings.

Family and Friends
A'kades, 50, Weyrsecond, Dolphin Cove Weyr (Former mentor)
E'kavas, 40, Wingrider, Ridge Wing, Dragonsfall Weyr (Quasi brother-in-law)

Dragon's Name: Hanassath
Dragon's Age: 25
Dragon's Hatching Date: m6 d10
Dragon's Colour: Bronze
Description of Dragon:
Hanassath looks awkward these days, no way around it. A large bronze with a long frame, four Turns grounded has lost him most of his once impressive musculature. There are hollows and divots where there should be bulk and brawn, but his color is still rich and eye catching. He’s a bright, burnished bronze. Freshly oiled, his hide shines gloriously in the sun-- like the metal newly buffed.

If his physique has suffered from his long convalescence, at least Hanassath’s outlook hasn’t. He’s still infused with confidence. He still believes he can do all he was born to do: fight Thread, catch Queens, fly far and long. It’s up to T’gyrlan to curb him, to be his memory and remind him of his injury, his limits-- but T’gyrlan’s drive sometimes clouds his perspective too.
