Birthplace: Amber Hills Hold
Rank: Wingrider, Alpine Wing
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Physical Description of Persona:
R’kesha is built like someone who earned every bit of strength the hard way: lean rather than bulky, all rope and wire, with the kind of endurance that comes from turns in the air rather than time spent trying to look impressive on the ground. He’s of average height but carries himself with a grounded, ready posture, as if he’s always half a step from moving. His features are sharp and sun-weathered, with a nose that’s been broken at least once and set a little crooked. His hair is dark red and kept short more out of habit than care, often unevenly trimmed, and his eyes -- once bright with restless energy -- have settled into something more guarded, their intensity turned inward.
There are scars if you know where to look: pale lines along his arms from Threadscore, a deeper one along his right side, hip, and upper thigh that pulls slightly when he moves, leaving him with an uneven gait and a slight limp. His clothes tend toward practical and worn-in, riding leathers well-maintained but everything else a little rougher around the edges. Altogether, he looks like a man who has been worn down without ever quite breaking -- still solid, still capable, but carrying the visible weight of everything he’s lived through.
Emotional Description of Persona:
R’kesha is a man who leads with instinct and attitude, quick to act and quicker to fill silence with something sharp -- whether that’s dry humor, a cutting remark, or a flash of temper. He has a habit of posturing, though it’s shifted with time: where it was once bright confidence and bravado, it now tends to come out as edge and deflection, a way of keeping control of a situation before it can turn on him. He dislikes feeling off-balance and will often meet uncertainty with action or attitude rather than hesitation.
He is deeply people-oriented, though not always easy to get close to. R’kesha forms strong, lasting attachments and is fiercely loyal once someone is _his_, but that loyalty comes with intensity: protective, stubborn, and sometimes difficult to navigate. He values honesty and competence, and has little patience for pretense in others, even as he relies on his own version of it to keep himself at arm’s length. He is not intentionally unkind, but he can be blunt to the point of friction, especially when emotions run high or situations feel out of his control.
For all his rough edges, R’kesha is (was, could be again?) someone who shows up when it matters. He is reliable in action if not always in presence, more comfortable doing than explaining, and far better at offering support through effort than through words. He carries his own thoughts and struggles closely, deflecting or redirecting when pressed, and rarely asking for help even when he needs it. Beneath the guarded exterior is a core that is still warm, still capable of humor and connection -- but it is something he reveals on his own terms, and often only in brief, unguarded moments
History of Persona:
R’kesha was born to a small, out-of-the-way farming cothold, the kind of place where life was measured in seasons, weather, and hard work. He grew up restless in that quiet, with more energy than the cothold knew what to do with and a stubborn streak that pushed him to test his limits early and often. When a Searchdragon from Dragonsfall Weyr came through when he was nineteen -- part of the first signs that something in the world was beginning to shift -- R’kesha didn’t hesitate. He left with little more than what he could carry, driven by a fierce, almost disbelieving excitement at the idea that he might have been chosen for something more.
Dragonsfall was everything he imagined and more. The scale of it, the presence of dragons, the easy confidence of riders who lived the life he’d only ever had glimpses of -- it struck him hard and fast, and he threw himself into candidacy with relentless enthusiasm. He trained harder than most, eager to prove he belonged among them, and just as eager to be part of it all: the Weyrhold, the riders, the sense of shared purpose that seemed to bind everything together. When Haurganth chose him on the Sands, it felt less like a beginning and more like something falling into place.
As a weyrling, R’kesha became part of a tightly bonded weyrling class, riders who trained, struggled, and grew together in a time when the Weyr itself was beginning to change. The signs of Thread’s return stirred unease in some, but for R’kesha it only added fuel to the fire. The idea that Thread might return -- the very thing that had defined dragonriders in the stories -- was not something he feared. He welcomed it. To him, it meant purpose, meaning, a chance to prove himself in the way that mattered most. Fighting to protect Pern, to stand in the sky alongside his clutchmates and do what dragonriders were meant to do? There was no higher calling he could imagine, and he embraced it without hesitation.
In the Turns that followed, R’kesha grew into his role with the same intensity that had defined him from the start. He proved himself a capable and decisive rider, earning a position as wingsecond that he held for many Turns. In the air, he was steady when it mattered, quick to act, and deeply invested in the riders under his wing. Off the Wing, his life was less controlled. His long, volatile relationship with his clutchmate Alyndra burned hot and uneven across the Turns -- passion and conflict in equal measure -- resulting in the birth of their son, Relkynd. Their connection endured longer than it should have, cycling through break and reconciliation until it finally ended a few Turns ago in a very public argument that left R’kesha’s belongings scattered across the Bowl and no easy path back. Though Relkynd remains a presence in his life, R’kesha’s path has not been a quiet one, and he has fathered other children along the way, connections he carries with varying degrees of closeness and complication.
Time and experience have worn down the certainty he once carried so easily. The reality of Thread -- long, relentless, and unforgiving -- has reshaped his understanding of what it means to be a dragonrider, stripping away the clean edges of the stories he once believed in. In recent Turns, that weight has begun to show. R’kesha has grown more withdrawn, less consistent, prone to poor decisions and a reliance on drink that has not gone unnoticed. When he and Haurganth were severely injured during the Turn 12 crossover disaster, leading to several months of painful recovery, it left further scars that were more than just physical: a thread of anger and bitterness that he has yet to fully reckon with.
And yet, change has not come without its counterbalance. The return of his former clutchmate, K’valdran, and his subsequent rise to Weyrleader has stirred something in R’kesha that had long been quiet -- a flicker of recognition, of memory, of who he once was among those riders. That spark has not been enough to restore what’s been lost, and K’valdran’s decision not to reinstate him as wingsecond has made that clear. But it has forced R’kesha into a reckoning he can no longer avoid, confronting the distance between who he is and who he might still become.

Dragon's Name: Haurganth
Dragon's Age: 24
Dragon's Hatching Date: m13 d1
Dragon's Hatching Place: Dragonsfall Weyr
Dragon's Colour: Brown
Description of Dragon:
Haurganth is a medium-sized brown, but there is nothing modest about his presence. He carries himself with a dense, muscular solidity, broad through the chest and shoulders, with thick neck ridges and powerful limbs that give him a sense of weight beyond his actual size. His hide is a lighter shade of brown, but warm and rich, with an orange-coppery undertone to it. His wings are wide and strong, built for force as much as endurance, the sails marked with subtle tonal shifts like sun-warmed leather. He moves with a grounded confidence, every motion deliberate and heavy, unafraid to use his bulk to assert space or presence when it suits him. Scars from Threadscore mark him here and there -- most notably a visible mass over his right shoulder, from the base of his neck onto the lower arm of the wing.
Haurganth is intense, forceful, and unapologetically present, a dragon who meets the world head-on with the same kind of passion that defines his rider. He is quick to react and quicker to commit, prone to strong opinions and unafraid to push them, whether that means crowding into a space, inserting himself into a situation, or driving R’kesha forward when hesitation creeps in. There is a physicality to him even in thought -- direct, blunt, and sometimes bordering on overwhelming -- paired with a temper that can flare fast when challenged or frustrated. He can be a bit of a brute, more inclined to act than to finesse, but there is nothing careless in his loyalty; it runs deep and absolute. Where others might temper themselves, Haurganth leans in, meeting conflict, emotion, and connection with full force, and expecting R’kesha to do the same.
