Name: S'bryn
Age:
40
Birthday: m5 d5
Rank: Wingrider, Hurricane Wing
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Craft: Miner
Craft Rank: Senior Apprentice
Physical Description of Persona:
Tall and almost gangling in appearance, S'bryn stands close to 6'4, with a lean build that usually sticks around 205 lbs. As a teen many people mistook his awkwardness for weakness, not realizing that under his clothes lie tightly corded muscles, honed by years of working with his father. His pale blonde hair and washed out skin don't call much attention, but the startlingly bright blue of his eyes makes up for it. An old scar rides the top of his forehead, hidden under a shaggy mop of stick-straight hair that he often forgets to have trimmed. He'd would probably do it himself if he wasn't afraid of what he'd look like afterward.
Bryn doesn't much care what he has on every day so long as it doesn't lean toward indecent exposure, but most of what he has tends toward earthy colors in rough woven fabrics. It doesn't suit his coloring so well, but that's something that never quite bothered him.
Emotional Description of Persona:
To most, S'bryn seems like a study in contrasts. On one hand he seems an unfinished work, with his appearance, lack of care about himself, and footloose nature. Then again, he cared enough to want more than his father had made of his life, to up and walk away without a penny to his name, ending up at River Bluff Weyr. As unlikely as it seems, he has ambition... not so much to be famous, but to be respected.
He tends to be even-tempered, annoyingly so for people who like confrontation. Because of his past, it's hard to insult him - there's not too much anyone can say about him that he wouldn't agree with, or simply brush aside. Talkative people tend to annoy him, although he's learned the art of tuning out and back in at will, and will listen if the person really _needs_ to be talking. S'bryn's failing grace is that he tends to have tunnel vision - once he fixes himself on something, it's extremely difficult for him to change course.
History of Persona:
Saibryn was born at the Miner Hall located at Garnet Valley Hold. His father was what was a miner who knew nothing but his work, spending his days scouring tunnels for precious metals and ores. No one ever did find out how he managed to father a child, much less with Bryna, who was one of the more hotly pursued young women around the hold.
As he was growing up Alsain had Saibryn in the mines with him early. He'd barely reached his thirteenth birthday, and he was apprenticed to the Hall, much to the dismay of his mother. Bryna never understood her child, anymore than she understood Alsain and his odd ways. Once Bryn hit his teens his parents stopped making even a pretense of a relationship - they'd always had a hard time getting along after his birth, but it had deteriorated to the point where the sight of each other only brought on a screaming match. Always a loner, Alsain retreated more and more into his work, taking Bryn with him as often as his classes would allow.
Just after his seventeenth birthday things hit another snag - Saibryn hit a series of late growth spurts, sprouting from a modest five foot nine to well over six feet. He was just too tall to move around in the mines, especially when he would need to be able to squeeze into tight spaces and work. Bitterly disappointed, Alsain agreed that Bryn had to find a different career for himself. Bryna could barely contain her glee that her son wouldn't be like his father.
Saibryn hunted down and accepted a position at River Bluff Weyr, wanting a change of scenery from Garnet Valley. Masonry was close enough to mining that his skills were put to good use, and he was allowed to stand as a candidate for their hatchings after a random encounter with one of the searchdragons labeled him as a potential dragonrider. It didn't take long before his days of mining and stonework were put behind him - At the second hatching he stood for, a bronze named Zaharath chose S'bryn as his lifemate.
From that time on, the two have made it a habit not to stay in the same place for too long at a time. After leaving River Bluff when Zaharath was two, and S'bryn was almost twenty, they spent time at Far Island, Vista Point, and a very brief time at Dream's End, before moving once again, to Dragonsfall Weyr. When the Weyrleader and Weyrlingmaster approached him to offer him the Weyrlingmaster's Second position, S'bryn gladly accepted, but after a couple of turns, his itchy feet had him looking for another move.
While there were ranking positions open at Dolphin Cove, S'bryn decided he'd rather have a little time as just another run-of-the-mill bronzerider again, not to mention get his bearings at his new location before he'd accept major responsibility there.
Family and Friends
Alsain, 66, Miner, GVH Miner Hall (Father)
Bryna, 66, Miner's wife, GVH Miner Hall (Mother)
Eibrynn, 24, Sr. Apprentice Dolphineer (Sister)
Dragon's Name: Zaharath
Dragon's Age: 24
Dragon's Hatching Date: m13 d11
Dragon's Colour: Bronze
Description of Dragon:
Zaharath is a pale copper-gold bronze, like the color of a newly minted penny. An average size bronze as far as length and wingspan, he's built on a slightly lighter scale, giving him extra speed in the air. He's not the most social of dragons, much preferring to survey things from his weyrledge and only speaking up when he needs to. In fact, after he grew up a bit, most people agree he's perfect for S'bryn. Their personalities match up amazingly well.
Pets
Tiea, Feline: aged 10, born m6 d11
Tiea just sort of appeared in S'bryn's life one afternoon. The half-starved, half-wild kitten practically came out of nowhere to claim S'bryn's feet as her personal pillow while he took a break from bathing Zaharath. He tried to find her a home with a few other people, but Tiea always seems to find her way back to him and Zaharath. She's a slender torbie(tortoiseshell/tabby), mostly gray and stripey, with bits of orange and cream tossed in here and there. It's quite a striking effect, especially with her fur, which is just a shade too long to be considered short haired, but not long haired either - she's just sort of...fuzzy.
