Persona Profile: Ryndel (Inactive)

Name: Ryndel
Age: 62
Birthday: m6 d17
Rank: Master Harper
Location: Harper Hall, Emerald Falls Hold
Job: Hallsecond
Craft: Harper
Craft Rank: Master
Speciality: Instrument Maker

Physical Description of Persona:
Ryndel is much like his son Jerryn in appearance, and in former years they could have been mistaken for brothers. The gradual encroachment of grey hairs and fine lines around his eyes make this less likely nowadays, but Ryndel is still resolutely active. He's tall, but not unusually so, with brown eyes and often-tousled sandy hair.

Emotional Description of Persona:
An easy-going man, Ryndel cares deeply about only two aspects of his life - his family and his workshop. At one time it would take an effort on the part of his friends to get him out of the latter, but after his marriage he managed to find a balance. He has a rather absent-minded attitude towards events outside his craft and has no time for intriguing within the Hall, countering any such efforts with blunt honesty.

History of Persona:
Ryndel was born in the Harper Hall and grew up immersed in the craft, never considering any other future for himself. In his apprentice studies he found himself initially drawn to instrumental work - he is still noted for his harp playing - but soon found his true home in the workshop of the master instrument maker.

When promoted to junior journeyman at the age of nineteen, he was assigned to spend several months in the instrumental workshop before being placed at a hold. He passed most of his time there, until a friend asked him to cover a class of paying students while he was away. Ryndel was reluctant - he'd always dismissed the students, young women from well-off holds sent to the Hall to learn such skills as were permitted and wouldn't interfere with their future as mothers, as unworthy of a serious harper's time.

By the time the friend returned, however, it was to find Ryndel refusing to give up the class although the other girls complained that he spent much of the time gazing into the eyes of Jerhani, a fifteen-Turn-old from a busy farm hold several days' travel from the Hall. When Jerhani finally had to leave for her home so that her parents could begin choosing a husband for her, Ryndel was determined that he wouldn't lose her. Assigned to a distant circuit of cotholds, he sought out the harper who'd got the placing at Jerhani's home hold. He offered the man a gitar that he'd spent months perfecting and was to have been his own personal instrument, if he would agree to swap assignments. The Hallmaster, perhaps amused by the request, permitted the switch.

Convincing Jerhani's parents to accept him as a suitor was harder, but they finally gave in to Ryndel's determination and Jerhani's refusals to marry anyone else and allowed the wedding to go ahead. Their first child, Cyral, was born at the hold, but they moved back to the Harper Hall soon after and Jerryn, Ryhani and Lareya were born there. Ryndel continued his studies as an instrument maker and was promoted to senior journeyman aged 26 and Master aged 44. Five Turns later he agreed to take on the role of Hallsecond.
