Name: Fayazel
Age: 65
Birthday: m12 d13
Rank: Master Crafter
Location: Vintner Hall, Amber Hills Hold
Craft: Vintner
Craft Rank: Master
Speciality: Wines

Physical Description of Persona:
Fayazel was born with the most beautiful golden hair, like ripe summer wheat. It was almost completely white by the time he was 40, a fact which he blamed, only half jokingly, on his wife. His sparking azure eyes, however, haven't dulled in all his turns, nor has his cheeky grin. He is only over average height, but the turns have been kind to his waistline.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Fayazel is mischievous, flirty and fun. He is witty and charming. He's also a bit of a snob and considers himself above some people or situations, though he hides it well. His true feelings often can be found in sarcastic jokes that he later denies held any truth should someone take offense. He likes gossip, fine wine, fashionable dress and stimulating conversation. Though he is a lover, he is not a romantic, and his affairs are meant for nothing more than pleasure. In his opinion, wine that stays forever in a bottle is a waste of grapes, just like a spirit that remains bottled up is a wasted life.

History of Persona:
Fayazel's father was a Master vintner, as his father before him, and his father before him, going back countless generations. In fact, a small Hall was built around his family's vineyards somewhere back in their history, and it was at that very Hall where Fayazel was born and was raised. His toys were empty kegs, and vineyards and wine cellars were his play ground. There was very little question of what he would be when he grew up, which suited him just fine!

He often would say there was nothing about his childhood he would change, save one thing. Fayazel was growing up in a South still struggling to recover from Plague and good marriages were seen not only as a blessing, but a duty. It was not unusual at that time that parents would betroth their children at a young age, not only to ally themselves with other families, but to insure their child would have a match already lined up by the time they came of age. So it was for Fayazel and Hersha. She was four turns his junior and was still in the cradle when they were betrothed. It was agreed that they would marry when she turned sixteen, and the couple would settle down to produce children for the good of Pern.

Even by the time Fayazel earned his journeyman knots, however, he knew the last thing he wanted was to marry her. The truth was, he was not attracted to her, or any other woman. He liked men, and had already experienced the pleasure of a forbidden relationship. Their families were outraged when he declared just before her sixteenth birthday that he had requested and had been given an assignment journeying. He explained that the reason was to get it done with before the marriage, as taking a wife and small children would be a hassle. Fayazel promised when he returned he would marry Hersha like he had promised. Five turns past before he could no longer hold them off, and returned to marry her.

By that time, Hersha had already grown bitter towards him for making her wait so long, and the fact he was being forced to live with a woman and pretend interest did not endear him to her, either. Their marriage was a miserable one from the start. He did manage to do his husbandly duty by her, but as soon as their third child was conceived, he did not even pretend desire for her again. Three was enough, he had decided, to satisfy his duty to the South. He had affairs whenever the possibility presented itself, and never noticed, nor cared, if his wife had done the same.

His youngest daughter was married when he was fifty-two turns, and his wife, to both of their great reliefs, decided to move in with her when she became pregnant soon after to "help with the baby". She never came back and Fayazel never mourned the loss. Finally he was free to live as he pleased! When the Hallsecond position at the Amber Hills Vinter Hall opened up he readily accepted it. Not only was it a nice change of scene, it would put nearly half a continent of space between himself and his wife, which was hardly enough in his estimation, but a good start. He has come ready to work hard, and play hard, now that he has the freedom to be himself. Almost.

Family and Friends
Hersha, 60, Hall Resident ((estranged) Wife)
Yashar, 34, Jr. Vintner (Son)
Shazel, 33, Jr. Vintner (Son)
Herzelle, 31, Vintner's Wife (Daughter)

Pets

Guardian, Blue Firelizard: aged 47, hatched m11 d20
The blue-grey flit was a present from Hersha's family to Fayazel before he left journeying. The intent was that way he could write his waiting bride, though he very rarely carried messages. He was trained to do so, but had proved himself even more useful doing as his name suggests - looking out for Fayazel. There were times when Fayazel needed privacy, and the little blue was very good at warning him of people approaching. Fayazel truly appreciates his little blue friend, and spoils him almost to the point of rottenness. Smart, quick, and good at keeping secrets, Guardian is Fayazel's perfect companion, and aside from wine, his one true love.
