Awards
Crayon Awards: Favorite New Female Persona (December 2010)

Physical Description of Persona:
Maemira still looks good for her age. With her reddish-brown hair still framing her somewhat youthful appearance, Maemira is often mistaken for someone younger than she is. Standing about 5'6" in height, her blue eyes can reflect kindness or spear you with a sharp intimidating glance.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Maemira is overall an easy to get along with person, as long as you agree with her ways of course! She has spent most of her life running households, Halls, and Holds and knows how to get things done. She's not afraid to give orders and will stand her ground if she knows she is right. Yet, she can be loving and compassionate as well. She walks a fine balance of caring and commanding within her role as headwoman.

History of Persona:
Maemira spent most of her life working in the kitchens and households around Pern. She worked her way to the status of Headwoman at one such Minor Hold when she met Ornetto. At 22 turns, she was soon a happy bride. She and Ornetto had many good years together and three beautiful children, Osandar, Falua, and Tsadon.

Maemira spent most of her time and energy on her work and her family. As the children began to grow up, she and Ornetto began to drift apart. She could not fathom what had caused this rift to grow between them. The loving gestures of their youth had given way to irritated glances and often scornful words.

When the pair realized they had begun to grow apart after nearly 16 turns of marriage, Maemira tried to make her family's home a better place. For awhile things seemed to improve, but then two things happened. Maemira conceived another child, and Ornetto found himself traveling for a time. It was on one of these travels that he met someone who made him feel alive again and open himself to what was truly in his heart.

Before Rhyrin was even born, Ornetto had left to make a new life for himself with his new partner. Osandar, who had adored his father could not handle this new betrayal and he ran off on his own to build a new life. In all the turns since, Ornetto and Osandar have never made contact with Maemira, Rhyrin, or the others again. Maemira only regrets not knowing what become of her eldest son. She is indifferent when it comes to Ornetto and whatever may have befallen him. She loved him once, but in the end, he chose another lifestyle. She harbors no ill-will towards him, just indifference.

Maemira continued her work, doing what she could to support her family by running the households that she was entrusted with over the years. Life changed quickly for her after Ornetto left. Her other children had been just as unhappy due to the family circumstances, and did what they could to leave this past behind them and make new lives for themselves. Falua, still young, met a young man bent on settling his own Hold. The two were married quietly and Maemira watched her only daughter leave to go far from their original home on Pern. Young Tsadon ran off to the Weyr and soon impressed a magnificent dragon.

Maemira could not have been more proud of her children, though she saw less and less of them as the turns went by. Both had been forced to suffer the consequences of her ill-fated marriage and she was sorry for that. She missed them terribly, but knew that they would come around someday. Rather than dwelling on her losses, Maemira, who was strong and determined, focused her attentions on her tasks and young Rhyrin.

Rhyrin grew into a happy child who adored his mother. When he was just barely old enough to apprentice he begged her for the chance to join the Harper craft. Even though it broke her heart to watch him go, Maemira knew she would never dream of holding him back. Her own commitments kept her where she was for the time being.

As the turns passed, Falua and T'don reconnected with their mother and put the past behind them. Young Rhyrin was doing well at the Harper Hall and Maemira found herself enjoying some casual new relationships among friends and lovers. But, she vowed never again to commit herself into a marriage that was sure to be a shambles.

When news came of the fire at the Harper Hall, Maemira was beside herself with worry. The only thing that mattered to her in the whole of Pern at that moment was Rhyrin. When she got word that he was safe and all was well, Maemira felt a huge wave of relief. It did, however, instill in her a desire to be closer to her youngest son, who by now had shown interest in remaining on at the Hall indefinitely.

It took her some time, but she finally found an opening. The Headwoman of the Harper Hall had resigned her duties to see to her own family concerns. Maemira got her wish. She was given the position of Headwoman at the Harper Hall.

Now, having been at the Hall for a just over a month, she has worked hard to bring order back to the Hall and make herself a part of the community there. Maemira has high hopes for the new Hall that is to be completed. She actually looks forward to helping organize the move and transition when the Hall is complete.
