Physical Description of Persona:
Rayan is somewhat of a vain man and he exercises almost obsessively. This has kept him in shape quite well and he doesn't really look his age. His dark brown hair is beginning to lighten with touches of grey and the lines in his face betray he's seen quite a few turns already, but his muscled physique takes turns of his actual age. Rayan usually sports a beard and heavy sideburns, much to the chagrin of his wife and daughters. His eyes are a deep brown and quite expressive, a trait reinforced by his articulate brow.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Rayan used to be quite a wild force. He was often described as ruthlessly ambitious, passionate and stubborn to a fault. Fatherhood has certainly mellowed him, but the roots of those traits go deep and there are times when they can resurface.

Most of the time, though, Rayan has learned to find that calm, peaceful place inside himself when things around him go awry. He can look at a situation from many perspectives and he prefers not to pass judgement too quickly. Yes, he will discipline if someone crosses a line, but always with the perpetrator's best interest in mind. He doesn't punish for the sake of punishment, but only if he thinks it serves a purpose. Bethila has taught him there is good in all people and he sincerely tries to live by that credo.

The man still has some wild hairs to shed and on occasion he goes out on an adventure of some kind. Be it drinking a Weyrleader under the table, or bartering a ride to a far off place, in hopes of finding new herbs for his liquors, Rayan never forgoes the opportunity to show he's still young at heart.

History of Persona:
Rayan was born and raised at the Vintner Hall at Amethyst Cliff Hold. His father worked in the kitchens and his mother helped out in the laundry room. Rayan, however, had bigger ambitions. He wanted to be a Vintner, a Master Vintner at that. From very early on, the young boy drank in the sights, sounds and smells of the Vintner Hall, to absorb as much knowledge of the craft as he could. By the time he was twelve turns, he was allowed to start apprentice lessons and he threw himself into his studies with passion. While his parents were proud of their son's achievements, they could not understand his ambition and a rift grew between Rayan and the rest of his family.

He married young, in hopes of getting away from the growing misunderstandings in his home. Bethila was of even lower birth than him – her father unknown to all but her mother – but she proved to be a perfect match for her new husband. She tempered his ambitions where needed, and encouraged him when the right moment came along. Under her careful guidance, Rayan made it Senior Journeyman and soon after their first daughter was born.

Over the course of the turns, they had four more daughters. Every time one was born, Bethila convinced him to try again, in hopes of a son. As Bethila grew older the births became more and more difficult. And yet, Rayan knows his wife will not rest until she has given him a son, no matter his protests.

Rayan attained his Master shortly before their third daughter was born and his hard work did not go unnoticed by the other Vintner Masters. He helped rebuild the Hall with great dedication after the move to Amber Hills Hold and when their Hallmaster stepped down halfway through the seventh Turn of the Pass, he was voted Hallmaster almost unanimously.
