Enamra

Thayde wasn't sure that the reality of what had just taken place had
fully set in on him as he entered the quarters he shared with Enamra.
Hallmaster? It still seemed like a surreal moment that he had never
anticipated.

Enamra wiped down the counters, her mind filled with thoughts that she
couldn't suppress. Jalodwyn, her pregnancy, her own reunion with
Thayde, the argument they'd had, and her own surprising anger at the
other woman. She'd never felt that much anger towards anyone and
didn't quite know what to do about it. For some reason, it simmered
under the surface, ready to explode at the very sight of the woman.
So, she kept in their apartments, unwilling to go out and possible be
questioned about the situation. She'd no desire to speak of it and
knew that some of the wives would certainly want to discuss it.

When Thayde entered the apartments, she looked up and stilled at the
expression on his face. Immediately concerned, she set the rag down
and straightened. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing is wrong, exactly," Thayde said, his eyes trailing down to
meet her gaze. "I just have some surprising news."

"Is it good news or bad news?" She couldn't read from his expression
if it was either. He looked...stunned.

"Good, I think." Thayde took Enamra's hands in his. "I have been
promoted to Hallmaster. You're a Hallmaster's wife."

Enamra blinked slowly, the words sinking in with realization. "What?
What bout Endarin? He's leaving?" Her hands curled into his, knowing
she should congratulate him, but also feeling a sinking in her
stomach. Hallmaster? Hallmaster's wife? She was a nobody! How could
she ever meet what people expected of her?

"Yes, when he came he did it as a favor to Famell, he always said it
was just temporary, but I thought that was just leaderhsip talk, you
know? That after a bit he would just accept it and stay. He's already
booked passage with a dragonrider for Jade Harbor."

Enamra opened her mouth to speak, closed it, then opened it again
before realizing she might look like a gaping fish. "Uhm...I'm happy
for you, if that's what you've been wanting. You look like you're
surprised though..."

"When I resigned from Hallmaster's Second, I just never thought a
position like that would come my way again," Thayde said honestly.

"But, is it something you want to do? Will you like doing it? I know
you're really happy in the infirmary." She took a breath. "I just
don't know if I should be excited for you or not. "

"I think it is something I will like doing. I have been a part of this
Hall for several Turns, it is home, and I know all of the dolphineers
here. I already oversee the infirmary, now my umbrella is just
expanding." Thayde arched an eyebrow. "This will also give me the
power to control schedules and postings... like Jalodwyn's."

That wasn't something she'd considered. Finally a smile broke over her
face, happiness mingled with relief. "Oh... that's right. You could.
" She squeezed his hands. "If you think you'll be happy and will like
doing this, then I'm glad for you. Um... how would you like to
celebrate?"

"Just a normal evening with my wife will do. And also," he reached up
towards his hair, "a trim is in order, don't you think?" It had needed
cutting before he left, and then the days out at sea had not helped
matters.

"I like your hair. " She lifted her hands to run her fingers through
the locks. "Don't cut it off." Enamra smiled as fingered the strands,
then paused, eyes widening. "Wait right here. Don't move. I've got a
surprise!" She flashed a wide grin, then scurried to the bedroom,
closing the door behind her. There was a flurry of muted movement, a
giggle or two, then a long silence and then soft words. "The
weavercrafter was crazy..." The door slowly opened and she peeked out.
"Ready?"

When she stepped out, her hair was unbound to her waist, still
kinked from her braid, but rippling. A bright flush stained her
cheeks as she pushed her hair back to reveal what little she wore.
The sheer black lace chemise revealed everything that a normal chemise
was supposed to cover, and the scant underwear highlighted the shape
of her hips rather than working to conceal her.

"Whoa." Thayde forgot all about his hair. It took conscious thought to
pry his tongue from the roof of his mouth to be able to speak. "Oh,
the weavercrafter isn't crazy, but a smart, smart man. He deserves a
raise in wages." He crossed the room, his eyes taking in every detail
of the flimsy bit of material that fit his wife like a glove.

"It came in today with some other things." Her face flaming pink, she
stood still as he looked at her. It wasn't as if he'd never seen her
naked, but this left her feeling exposed, but also more alluring than
she'd ever thought she'd feel. The look in his eyes was worth the
initial embarrassment. "I guess you like it, huh?"

"Oh, I like it," he confirmed with a familiar gleam in his eyes.

Feeling more confident, Enamra raised her chin, looking up at Thayde
with more of a smile. "I guess a late dinner?" She took a breath and
laid her hands on his chest, then slid them upwards to his shoulders.
She didn't want to think about what would be now expected of her as a
Hallmaster's wife, she needed the distraction from it and this was as
good a way as any. Besides, the look in his eyes made her tingle all
over. "So how about a not so normal night with your wife to celebrate?
Maybe..." she pressed again him full length, "you can do some
unwrapping?"

Thayde's hands slide over her hips, enjoying the silky combination of
her skin and the material, he couldn't tell where one began and the
other ended. "You are my favorite present to unwrap, and I plan on
doing a lot of unwrapping until we catch up from the time we missed
this past fortnight."

His touch made her shiver and she smiled up at him, delighted by his
own response. "Good." It would also be a distraction from Jalodwyn.
Hopefully, she thought, the first thing he'd do would be to send her
away.
