Description: A premature visitor to The Tavern
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 2, day 8 of Turn 4
"Hello?" G'len called as he stepped into the dimly lit tavern. He could tell it was still having some touches put on, but when he had heard that the Vintner Hall itself was opening up a tavern... well, he just had to check it out! "Anyone here?"
Bhervehan was in his workspace in the kitchen area when he heard someone in the bar. "Shards!" he said to himself. Apparently the last journeyman to leave failed to lock the door behind him. Sliding the drying grain back into the kiln, he wiped his hands clean on his apron.
"I'm coming," he called out.
Confident that the place wasn't abandoned for the night, G'len started looking around. He noticed the fine etching on the rims of the tables, and the matching ones of the chairs, and thought how nice it would be to have the Woodsmith Hall so close by. The top of the bar was missing (too bad), and there were no bottles of wine or kegs of ale in sight (even worse).
Emerging from the kitchen Bhervehan straightened his apron. "Good evening, but I am sorry. The tavern is not open yet."
"Master Bherehan?" G'len said surprised to see the Topaz face all the way out here, "What brings you so far away from the ocean?"
What was a greenrider from Dolphin Cove Weye doing here? "Do I know you, sir?"
If G'len was the pompus type, he'd have been insulted, but as it were, he just smiled and extended his hand. "I'm G'len. We've met before, I used to frequent the Topaz Sea Hold Tavern. It's been awhile though since I've been there, what with the reconstruction and all."
"Well, I've some bad news for you; this place is under construction as well."
"Hmm, yes, so I see. It is looking like it's coming along rather nicely though. You've done splendid designing, I especially like the chairs."
G'len added as he continued to look around. He could imagine it once it was opened, and was definetly looking forward to spending some late nights here.
"Well, a good tavern should be comfortable," the older man answered, knowing that the more comfort, the longer people stayed, to spend more marks.
G'len turned back to the Master and stepped closer, "And when will you be opening up? I'd love to be here for the celebration, and I can spread the word around the Weyr so you'll have a packed house for your first night!"
"Hard to tell just yet, but I am aiming for about two seven days from now."
The greenrider clapped his hands and rubbed them together in anticipation.
"Wonderful! I'll be sure to be here."
"And don't forget to bring your friends," Bhervehan said, hoping he could get back to his brew.
"Oh I will!" G'len assured him. "You don't happen to have any wine here I could buy to sample to those friends and show them the fine quality that they would be served here, do you?"
"Sorry, we won't be bringing any stock in until opening day," he answered.
To himself he added, **just like a dragonrider, trying to get something for nothing.**
G'len couldn't help but frown, he had been so looking forward to something different. "Ah well, that's understandable. I'll just have to wait till opening night! Have a good evening Master Bhervehan, I'll get out of your hair." the greenrider added with a wave as he turned to go.
"One more thing before you go, G'len."
G'len turned back, maybe this Master had a private stock he wished to share? "Yes?"
"You know that dark stout you were always so fond of?" he asked, moving to the unfinished bar.
The greenrider smiled fondly at the man, "How could I forget, it was the best brew at Topaz!"
Lifting a small container from behind the bar, he handed it to the dragonrider. "Maybe your friends might need prompting to drop by."
G'len's smile turned into a full on grin when he recognized the label, "Ah, it's a good year too! You are too kind friend, how much?"
"On the house, as long as you remember to bring your friends."
The greenrider thought about protesting, but the Tavern Master wasn't usually the giving sort so he decided to take the rare gift. "Well thank you sir, I promise to promote you well with this."
