Cosani

Cosani

"Shard it!" Cosani watched the sweetsand from her bucket spill out into the Weyrlake. "I told you not to splash so much!"

Her green was unrepentant. }:I like splashing.:{

Cosani heaved a sigh and called to a Weyrling near her. "Could I use some of your sweetsand? She dumped all of mine."

"Sure," said K'sen, and began to lug his bucket of sweetsand a little closer to the other weyrling.

}: What are you doing? :{ demanded Sarath. }: That's my sweetsand! And you stopped scrubbing me! :{

"Sorry, dearest," said K'sen, who hadn't really got the hang of this whole 'speaking in his head' thing. He dropped the bucket with an apologetic look at Cosani and rushed back to Sarath, who crooned in grudging approval as he resumed washing her.

Cosani snatched up the bucket before Shalith could dump that one, too. "Is she demanding, too?"

"Just a little," admitted K'sen as he gently spread out Sarath's right wing to clean between the folds. She stood upright and imperious as she graciously deigned to let him manhandle her so.

"It's weird having them in your head." Cosani took a handful of sand and went back to scrubbing Shalith's hide.

}: It's perfectly normal. Surely she knows that? :{ contributed Sarath, confused.

"For you, maybe," replied K'sen, before realising what that sounded like to Cosani. "Shards, no, I mean, yes. I wish I could get the hang of talking to her in my head." He looked embarrassed and apologetic.

}: Have to practice, :{ noted Sarath. K'sen paused in what he was doing for a moment and screwed his face up in concentration. **Not now, trying to talk to someone,** he just about managed.

"It is funny to watch everyone talking to themselves." Cosani herself wasn't having too much trouble, unless Shalith did something annoying.

}:I am not annoying.:{

**You do annoying things,** Cosani said, shifting to scrub at another spot.

"Yeah." K'sen lapsed into awkward silence as he finished cleaning Sarath, who crooned softly with contentment.

"So, um. Where are you from?" Cosani asked.

"We had a small cothold," replied K'sen in a slightly nostalgic fashion, "looked to Garnet Valley Hold, but we were miles away."

}: We can go back there, :{ Sarath reassured him. }: When I'm bigger. It'll be easier to fly there than walk. :{

"Not for long," he murmured in reply.

"What? Oh, you were talking to her." She supposed interacting with her fellow Weyrlings was going to be confusing for a while.

"Yeah," replied K'sen guiltily. "Never mind."

}: I don't want to bother you, but there's this bit behind my left wing joint that itches terribly. :{ noted Sarath.

K'sen turned back to his dragon to attend to her troubles. "Might have to go get some oil," he explained to Cosani apologetically.

"I have some, on the shore." Cosani pointed. It was safely out of splashing range.

"Thanks," replied K'sen, wading over to the oil with Sarath traipsing along happily behind him.

"Just don't use it all," Cosani called after him.

K'sen made a non-committal noise and started slathering oil on Sarath's dry patch.
