Date: month 4, day 18 of Turn 5

"K'hetah, do you fish?" T'kob asked curiously as he sat across from the other bronzerider, both enjoying their early morning breakfast.

"Fish? I eat them," he said looking down at his plate though, in fact, there were no fish on it this morning. "But no, I don't. Do you?"

T'kob gave an exaggerated sigh, "Not as much as I'd like any more. This new position has left me with very little free time. I was thinking though about running away for a restday."

"Oh? Do you know somewhere good for fishing around here? Or are you planning to get right away?" Despite being able to go anywhere on Pern, dragonriders did tend to stay within the area 'under the wing' of their Weyr. Although territorial disputes between Weyrs didn't happen as they did between Holds things could get decidedly frosty between Weyrleaders if one Weyr allowed its riders to treat another's territory as their own.

"I was hoping for a bit of advice on a spot." T'kob replied wistfully since he realized K'hetah would be no help in that department. "And company is always nice as well."

"Well don't look at me. I wouldn't know one end of a fishing pole from another. You obviously do. Is that what you do as a hobby?"

T'kob shrugged, "I don't know if I'd label it as a _hobby_, I don't do it often enough to have that much interest. But it is enjoyable, and there isn't anything like cooking and eating something you've caught yourself."

"I suppose you have to kill it yourself, too," K'hetah said, clearly not enamored of the idea. "And in this climate how much fun can it be to stand around in the heat and sun for ages just waiting for the fish to visit your hook?"

He sighed, "That's the point to finding a good spot. Someplace shaded, off some rocks perhaps. Or at the very least, someplace with a good breeze to keep you cool if you've got to be in the sun." He knew of several up by his old Weyr, but he was hoping to try out one in his own timezone.

"Hmm. Nobody's mentioned fishing to me so I can't even suggest anybody to ask - though perhaps the dolphineers? They might know." K'hetah's expression betrayed some uncertainty. "Do they even need to fish? Would the dolphins just bring them along or something?"

T'kob gave a short bark of laughter. "While I'm sure a dolphin _could_ bring you a fish if you were having a horrid time of it, they much prefer it if you give _them_ the fish."

"Really? I haven't had much to do with them, though Loeth seems to think they're his new best friends." The addiction his dragon seemed to have developed to the warm tropical waters was a bit of a sore point with K'hetah.

Laughing, T'kob nodded in understanding. "The dolphin and dragon friendships are a marvel."

"I wish they'd be 'a marvel' with somebody else's dragon. Your Embereth ... How much time does he spend out in the bay? Swimming? With the dolphins?"

He thought a moment while finishing his klah. "Well, whenever I'm out for a swim, or when we're working with the weyrlings. He's not much for wandering off by himself though. He's gotten his hands full since we took this position. Is your boy turning into a shipfish?"

"I keep checking him for fins," K'hetah admitted wryly. "Actually, I check him to make sure he's not damaging his hide in the salt water all that time but it seems dragonhide is tougher than if feels."

T'kob had never thought of dragonhide being damaged like the ships or metal gear that always seemed to rust and corrode. "Hmm, must be all the oil. Or they just get used to it like us I suppose."

"I don't know about you, but I get wrinkly if I stay in the water too long. Perhaps I should ask the dragonhealers this. Of course, they'll laugh."

"Oh I don't know, you've piqued my interest in the puzzle, I bet you'd catch one of their attentions as well." T'kob replied, still thinking it over. "If you do, let me know what they say."

"I will. But I've had an idea. Let's tie fishing lines to his tail and let him swim around until he finds the fish."

The Weyrlingmaster almost choked on the klah he'd started sipping. Sitting up straighter as he cleared his lungs, T'kob leveled his gaze at the older rider. "Seriously, you have to give a guy some sort of warning before you say stuff like that. I was almost in need of a healer!"

"Luckily I was one, until the Pass. So you're perfectly safe." K'hetah laughed at the other bronzerider. "Unless it's you we get to do the tying on of fishing lines."

T'kob just shook his head and grinned. "You really should come out with me. It'd be alot of fun."

"Maybe once. If you're desperately short of a fishing companion. And only as a favor to a fellow bronzerider."

"I'll hold you to that." T'kob replied, feeling slightly victorious.

K'hetah had been afraid he would.
