Thanks mate," Sabonus said as he pushed the dingy back towards the open
sea. He gave the sailor who had rowed him to shore one more wave before
picking his bags up off the wet sand.

"All finished," he called to the waiting greenrider as he walked further
ashore to meet her by her lounging lifemate. "It wasn't nearly as bad
as I thought it would be."

"That's nice to hear," Uetia replied. Sirjath had used the oppurtunity
and fallen in sleep in the sand. The cove was really beautiful place and
Uetia had done bit exploring while waiting for Sabonus to repair the
ship.

"Fresh fruit?" she asked and showed a small pile she had gathered from
the jungle that loomed behind the beach.

"Not content just to sit idle, eh?" he asked as he sat down beside her
and reached for one of the tasty treats.

"No, not really," Uetia said. "I like to do something."

It seemed that every passing moment this woman grew more and more
likable. "So I. I hate wasting time."

"She is the direct opposite," Uetia pointed her lifemate with her thumb.
"Her favourite past time is sleeping."

"Well, dragons do enough for Pern," Sabonus conceded. "I wouldn't want
to imply that I hold them to the same standards as humans."

"No, they are dragons, they have standards different than us," Uetia
said.

"Their real work happens when Threadfalls. They ca't exactly hurry that
along. I, however, hate to put things off that could be done now, you
know?" He caught a drop of citrus fruit juice with his lips as it ran
down the palm of his hand.

"Mmh," Uetia murmured affirmatively, her eyes following that droplet.
She wondered who his lips would taste and feel against hers.

"Sorry, I know I'm making a mess," he muttered as he caught another on
his tongue. "These are nice and ripe."

"That they are. I have to remember this place. It's a perfect little
get-away," Uetia said, her eyes scanning their surroundings. Better keep
her eyes off from Sabonus, her mind seemed to wander into quite other
things.

"It is," he nodded, squinting up at the deep blue sky. "But... I don't
know. There's got to be more to Pern than just water and coves."

"There is. Crowded holds, halls, mountains, plains, deep forests and
stinking marshes," Uetia replied.

"I was thinking while we flew over here. I've never been more than a
couple miles inland. I've never seen a plain, or touched snow." He had
seen snow on the peaks of mountains from the deck of a ship, but that
was as close as he had got.

"Well, I have this big green thing here, who can take us anywhere we
want to go," Uetia said and patted Sirjath's hide.

"You don't sound very impressed with the inland," he said, eying the
dragon with a twinge of longing. Sabonus wasn't completely convinced he
belonged on a dragon, but if one were to ever choose him, he could only
imagine all the places he could go!

"Mountains aren't that bad, but I could do without snow," she said
remembering the last Fall over Garnet Valley. She never been that cold
before, even in /between/.

"There's got to be something to it. I've heard more than one homesick
soul pine for snow." And it would be nice to touch it for himself.

"I can't see why," Uetia snorted. She was from a tropical sea hold.

"Well, I'll never know until I see it for myself," he shrugged. It was
all fine that she had her opinion, but there was no one whose opinion he
trusted as much as his own.

"I can easily take you to see it, but not now. We really should get back
to the Weyr," Uetia offered and added with regret in her voice. She
didn't
like to leave.

He pursed his lips thoughtfully. "You have work to do today other than
transporting me?"

"Probably, I don't know," Uetia said with a shrug. "On other hand, it
_was_ long flight here, so she really does deserve her rest," she
glanced the
sleeping dragon, her experssion too innocent to be believable.

"You have to wait until _I'm_ ready to go back, right?" he asked,
his expression equally innocent.

"True, you're the client," Uetia agreed.

"Well," he said, scrunching his face thoughtfully, "I'm just not ready
to go back yet."

She laughed.

Sabonus grinned in response. Of all her features, he liked her smile
the best. The chance to get to know Uetia better could never be a waste
of a fine day.
