Meet and greet the family

Writers: Eimi, Paula
Date Posted: 22nd March 2011

Characters: Uetia, Sabonus, G'el, Tiegot, Tiedell, Sevia
Description: Uetia takes Sabonust to spend the feast in her home hold.
Location: Elsewhere on Pern
Date: month 13, day 29 of Turn 5

Uetia checked for the umpteenth time the hem of her dress. It was
long and she was not used to wear long dresses. She was afraid
she would tread on the hem and fall face first to the floor. The
colour of the dress highlighted her sea-grey eyes and it left her
muscular arms bare expect for the shawl. She had even curled her hair.
She felt as out of the place as herdbeast lost in a middle of runner beast
herd. Her eyes fell on the man next to her. "Aren't we handsome
today?" she said teasingly and admiringly at the same time.

"Aye, that we are," he grinned, linking his fingers with hers. "So,
what to do first? Food? Drink? Or a dance?"

"I guess I have to introduce you to my folks first," Uetia said, trying
not to show nervousness. It's been many Turns since she had spent the
Turn's over in her native hold.

"Ah, yes, there is that..." he said, as if he _could_ forget. Uetia had
decided it was time to formally introduce them. Despite that fact that
Sabonus the thought made him nervous as a sailor in a dingy during a
hurricane, he had been rather pleased that she thought their
relationship was going in such a positive direction. "All right, if I
have to."

"Yes, you have to," A voice growled behind their backs. Uetia swirled to
look. He was six and half feet tall, almost as broad as the hallway they
were standing and wore Far Island's bluerider knots.

"G'el!"

"Hi, sis. I thought it was Sirjath on the heights. Nice to see you and
who is this?" He snatched her to a bearhug.

"Uh," Uetia groaned and waited until he released her. "This is Sabonus,
he's with me."

G'el eyed him up and down. "Nice," he drawled appreciatively. "If you
get bored of him, can I have him?"

"Uetia told me you might try to charm me," Sabonus grinned, though he
had to strain his neck a bit to look up at the man. He held his hand
out in a friendly gesture. "I'm Sabonus."

"I'm G'el and I have a blue dragon and you bet I'm trying to steal you
from her," the bluerider replied with a grin and shook the hand. His
shake was firm but gently. Like most large men, he was very concious of his
strenght.

"Hah, you can try but won't succeed," Uetia snorted.

"That's true," Sabonus said with a dramatic sigh, sliding a hand around
her waist. "She cast her net and I swam straight into it."

G'el chuckled. "Come on, dad's waiting for us."

Sabonus slipped his hand from her waist to her hand, giving her backside
a light caress along the way with a rather saucy grin. Truth was,
however, as his linked his fingers with hers, he was rather nervous. A
girl had never introduced him to her family before. True enough, he
usually already knew their family, but there was a deeper meaning to all
this, he knew. "Will he like me, do you think?" he asked softly as G'el
lead the way.

"Relax, he'll like you," Uetia assured him. They waited until G'el was
done greeting.

"Dad!"

"Hello, sweetheart. So happy you decided to come," Tiegot embraced his
daugher and planted a sound kiss to her cheek.

"Dad, let me introduce Sabonus. We are together. Sabonus, this is my
father, master fishcrafter Tiegot," Uetia said.

Tiegot glared at Sabonus. Like his son and daughter, he was a large,
imposing man, with silvery hair and crows feet around his eyes.
"Greetings. What do you do for living?" he asked Sabonus.

Well, that was direct and intimidating, Sabonus thought as he tipped his
head up to look at the man. His throat was beginning to feel a bit dry.
"Ships Carpenter and sometimes Candidate, sir."

"Ah, a sea crafter," Tiegot's shoulders relaxed notably and his
expression softened.

"That I am, sir, as is most in my family." Sabonus was relieved to see
that it had been the right answer.

"Trust Uetia to pick one up," Tiegot murmured.

"Of course. What would I do with some landlubber?" Uetia asked airily
and her father smiled.

"Your brother Tiedell and his wife are looking for you to show off their
new baby," Tiegot warned. He gave Sabonus an approving nod before
disappearing to the crowd.

"Told you, he liked you," Uetia said and hooked an arm with Sabonus.
"Next we have to go to dote on a drooling infant."

"I'm all right with babies," Sabonus shrugged, feeling the worst was
over. He felt confident enough to give her a quick kiss. "Lead on."

"I like them bigger, when they can actully talk with me," Uetia
remarked.
"Tiedell and Sevia!" she called.

He wondered if that meant he shouldn't be expecting children with her
any time soon. Sabonus didn't mind that. He wasn't ready to be a
father just yet, anyway. "Should I be looking for another giant?" he
asked, scanning the crowd for her brother.

"Yes, and really petite, dark haired woman. They are like a firelizand
and dragon," Uetia said with amused smile.

"What are you and I like, then?" he asked with an amused smile.

"At least I don't need a chair to kiss you," Uetia said.

"After meeting your family, I'm thinking _I_ might be the one to need a
chair." Though he rather liked the fact that he didn't have to bend his
body to kiss her like he had some girls. "Is that them?"

"Yes, they are," Uetia waived. She wasn't quite as short Uetia had said,
but she was feet shorter than Uetia and looked tiny next to Uetia's
brother, who was younger version of their father.

Sabonus just hoped he was as easy to impress as her father had been.
"Hi, I'm Sabonus - ship carpenter."

"Hi there, I'm Tiedell, a fishcrafter and this is my lovely wife Sevia,"
Tiedell had a friendly grin and he hugged his wife with obvious
affection.
To Uetia, he whispered:"Is G'el here, he's always trying to steal
Sevia."

"Yes, he came right after us," Uetia replied with a smile and gave him a
hug. She and Sevia exhanges cheek kisses.

"Uetia, darling, so lovely to see you here. You are not leaving until
you've said hi to the kids too. And that goes for your man too," Sevia was
not the person who took no for answer.

"I'd love to meet them," Sabonus said with a shrug, figuring he had come
this far. He might as well meet them all. "Count me in."

"Oh, good," she looked delighted.

He curled an arm around the greenrider's shoulder. "Anyone else we need
to meet along the way?"

Uetia looked her brother questioningly.

"Ah, no, Tiuen is at the sea, Uegot is somewhere around Ista, Dell's
ship is late and Ueltin sent a letter, he's back at the Harper Hall,"
Tiedell listed out.

"So typical," Uetia sighed. "When were we all together in a same place
last time?"

"Dunno, must have been your 10th birthing day or something," Tiedell
sounded sad too. "You can always greet Dell's wife," he did remind.

"Does Uegot's family still live in Jade Harbour?" Uetia asked.

"Yes, and before you asked, Tiuen hasn't find anyone yet. I start to
suspect he's more like G'el." he replied.

Sabonus tried to follow their conversation. Tiuen, Ueltin and Uegot he
knew were more brothers, but one name wasn't familiar. "Dell?"

"Dellgot," Uetia clarified, "He's the middle brother, well, actually
G'el is. He comes between Uegot and G'el."

"Everyone calls him just Dell," Tiedell added. "He's only one with a
nickname. We rest go with our full names."

"I have nickname for you," Sevia remarked.
"Yeah, but you can't say it in front of the kids," Tiedell grunted.

Sabonus shook his head in disbelief. "I can't imagine so many brothers.
I only have three."

"Try growing up with them," Uetia rolled her eyes.

"Well, at least you won't be intimidated by all the men when it comes
time for you to meet _my_ family." Which he hoped would be soon. It
was only fair.
