A Friendly Meeting and a Dance

Writers: AL, Ames, Anaria
Date Posted: 27th July 2011

Characters: J'ren, Tiernan, Lisadi
Description: J'ren escorts Lisadi to the hatching feast where she meets and dances with Tiernan
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 16 of Turn 6

J'ren escorted Lisadi to the feast, her arm tucked comfortably into
his. He smiled down at the young woman who's eyes had been so wide
with wonder. He had to admit, he liked seeing that, the awe that
people had when they came to a hatching for the first time. "The best
of the best is always what you get at a Hatching Feast." He commented
lightly.

She gazed up at him, eyes wide with wonder and joy. "I thought the
Turn-over feast at Emerald Falls were amazing, but this, this is more
than I could ever have even dreamed of!" Having lived so much of her
life in a small Hold, these past few months had truly turned into a
whirlwind of new experiences. Her eyes took in all the things around
her, the people, the tables, the decorations, the food. Everything was
almost larger than life and she had no idea what to do with herself!

The bronzerider chuckled and snagged two glasses of wine from a passing
tray, then held one out to Lisadi. "Well, the hatchings a big deal at
Weyrs. It's really our biggest celebration." He sipped at his eyes
and let his gaze wander about. People were milling and talking,
Weyrlings with that starry eyed expression sort of drifting here and
there. He'd been one of those once. "We should..." J'ren didn't get a
chance to finish when someone plucked insistently at his arm.

"J'ren! Could I see you a moment?" A greenrider with River Bluff knots
looked to the bronzerider and then glanced over at Lisadi. He offered
an apologetic smile, but didn't let it linger.

"Something wrong, Tr'far?" J'ren's eyebrows arched upward at the man's
tone.

"Well, K'san's had a bit too much to drink...and he listens to you even
when he's drunk. I think if we could just get him somewhere til he
sobers up a bit."

"The feast just started!" Exasperation crept into the bronzerider's
voice and he shook his head. "Lisadi, forgive me, this will just be a
few moments." He was not pleased - not one bit. "Go get some food and
mingle, I'll be back as soon as I can."

She gave him an encouraging smile, "It's alright, I understand. I'll
be here when you get back." Being alone among so many strangers wasn't
exactly easy for Lisadi, but she was going to do her best to make the
most of things under J'ren could rejoin her. As she watched him leave,
she took his suggestion and headed toward the food tables, more for
something to do than anything.

Meledei had left the Hatching Feast somewhat early on, leaving Tiernan
alone in a room full of relative strangers. It had been a while since
he'd been to a Gather or a get together of any sort, and he wasn't
going to leave without finding someone to dance with. Seeing Lisadi by
herself, and noticing that she looked like she was searching for a way
to keep herself busy. He strode purposefully towards her, "Hello
there. My name's Tiernan, would you care to dance?"

Lisadi looked towards the voice, surprise evident on her face. "Oh,
hello. Um, sure. I mean, my friend, J'ren won't be back for at least a
little while." She fumbled around with her words a bit and then
blushed when she realized she'd forgotten to give her own name. "I'm
Lisadi, by the way. Are you for the Weyr then?" She thought his name
didn't _sound_ like the other dragonriders' names, but then again she
wasn't really sure with this being her first experience around so many
riders.

"No ma'am," he said, taking her hand and leading her out to the dance
floor. "I'm a Seacrafter. I'm the Captain of a ship called the
Seawing. I'm just in the area for a bit while my ship gets some
maintenance done," he decided it best not to tell the tale of
surviving a hurricane at sea to a complete stranger. What about you,
you don't seem like most of the Weyr women, are you visiting as well?"

"Oh, a seaman. Do you by chance know Sarban at Emerald Falls?" Lisadi
asked as she walked with him onto the floor. "He was once a seacrafter
as well." As she moved into position, she answered his question. "I am
not from here. In fact this is my first time ever at any Weyr. J'ren,
one of the bronzeriders from River Bluff has become a friend and he
offered to bring me here. It has truly been quite an experience."

"I knew of him by reputation in the Craft, we've met a few times when
I've been in Port delivering supplies. Is he an acquaintance of
yours?" Tiernan asked curiously. "And I haven't spent much time at
Weyrs either, not until recently. Just quick visits to drop off
supplies. It can be quite.... overwhelming... to say the least!" He
began to dance in time with the music. Being a Seacrafter meant that
he was agile on his feet, and he had decent rhythm as well, making him
a competent dance partner.

"We're actually courting," she replied with a bit of a shy blush as
she moved with him in step to the music. "Have you ever been to
Emerald Falls then?"

"I get out that way at least once a turn," Tiernan said. "My ship
doesn't get there as it's too large to fit down the river, but many
times I'll ride with the river boats to see apprentices who I might
assign to my crew. Do you like living at Emerald Falls? It's a lovely
Hold."

"I do. Perhaps the next time you come through there you might stop for
a visit." Lisadi replied with a smile as the dance started to come to
an end.

"I see you found some company." J'ren eased up alongside the couple,
chuckle. "Sorry about that Lisadi, but thank you sir for showing her a
good time."

She turned and smiled to J'ren when he joined them. "J'ren. Have you
met Tiernan? He was kind enough to take me for a dance." She turned
back and smiled at the captain. "I thoroughly enjoyed the dance. I
hope you'll seek me out if you ever come to Emerald Falls. I'd love to
hear more about your travels." She'd also love to have a chance to
actually ride on a ship, but she refrained from stating that aloud.

Tiernan extended his hand to J'ren in greeting. "It's a pleasure
meeting you," he greeted. He turned back to face Lisadi. "I'll
definitely look for you the next time I'm at Emerald Falls, it's
always nice to have friends waiting when we get to port." He paused a
moment before adding, "I best be heading off, I have an early morning
of work tomorrow."
