Description: W'ser and P'nal have their usual meeting, chatting over things over lunch.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 7, day 3 of Turn 6
The brownrider escaped the confines of his office to go to his working
lunch. He'd be eating, but he was also going to have his usual talk
with W'ser to make sure he had everything under control and his
records were right. He hated surprises, though he could roll with
them. When he got to his usual table in the Dining Cavern, he started
in on his food rather than waiting.
W'ser knew he was late for his regularly scheduled meeting with P'nal,
but just as he'd been ready to leave a dragon had come in that had
needed his attention. In the end it had turned out to be minor and
W'ser had been able to leave the dragon and rider in the capable hands
of a journeyman. With a folder tucked beneath his arm, the brownrider
hurried to the Dining Cavern.
Tossing the folder down on the table where P'nal was sitting, W'ser
continued on his way to the service table and quickly helped himself
to a plateful of food along with a cup of klah.
"How are you P'nal?" he asked when he returned to the table and set
his things down.
"Just dandy. The weyrlings graduated so we have a new rider in the wing.
So far, no mishaps." He hoped it continued. "And you?"
"Doing well," W'ser confessed as he took his seat and pulled his plate
closer, "no injuries too serious, and so far, the newly graduated weyrlings
have gone through their Threadfalls without too much hazard."
"That's a good thing. We're not hurting, but the wings could use some new
blood. How is Teseada's last batch doing?" He was genuinely curious since
he hadn't heard much about the junior weyrlings.
W'ser took a heaping bite of his food while considering P'nal's
question, "They're a pretty smart bunch from what I hear. I've not had
to treat any of them, thankfully. Hopefully it will stay that way.
Nothing hurts a dragonhealer more than having to deal with an injured
dragonet."
"I remember we had a few that got thicktail, which was a bit uncomfortable
to say the least." He shook his head, taking a bite out of his dessert.
The Weyrdragonhealer lifted his shoulders in a semi-shrug as he took
another bite of food, his eyes scanning across the Dining Cavern.
"It's not completely uncommon."
"How are you doing with staff? Got enough apprentices and journeymen?"
P'nal knew their craft was always in demand in a Weyr.
W'ser nodded even as he set his cup back down on the table. "You know
how it is, you can never have enough skilled crafters around to help,
just as you can never have enough experienced dragonriders. It seems
that no matter how many dragonhealers we have, come Threadfall it's
always a chaotic rush to make sure every dragon is tended."
"Hopefully things have gotten better though-the casualty reports have been
less." He looked back, curious. Were there more minor injuries then?
"Yes, nothing major, thank Faranth. It's given the infirmary time to
restock all of our supplies." The best part of the wintry weather at
Dragonsfall was that it gave the dragonriders and healers a chance to
take a break, replenish stock, and get prepared for the next bout of
Threadfall.
He went back to his food for a time, having satisfied the questions he had
had. P'nal suddenly started to think about dessert.
}:W'ser you are needed at the dragon infirmary.:{ Branth reported into
his head, his tone was calm but there was an urgency there that let
the Weyrdragonhealer know he was needed immediately.
"It was good chatting, P'nal, I need to be getting back to the
infirmary. Enjoy the rest of your day." W'ser stood, leaving his empty
dishes for the drudges to clean up as he strode from the Dining
Cavern.
