Tavia paced. She'd been pacing for a few days and had a big scare the
day prior when Aileyan's green had risen but Sawauth paid now
attention even though she was glowing brilliantly and Tavia has having
a hard time not snapping heads off peoples shoulders.
But suddenly she felt Sawauth wake and relief flooded her to know the
wait was finally over. Since Kaiavin was with his foster mother she
had nothing more to do then dash out the door of her weyr and toward
the flight rooms.
W'ser was down in the infirmary doing some work when he felt the
spiraling rush in his stomach that always signaled a mating flight.
}:You had better get your hands clean and get up here. I am going to
win us a flight!:{ Branth told him, very matter-of-factly. It had been
a while since the pair had flown in a flight, normally W'ser and
Branth were busy in the dragon infirmary assisting others.
Not today. Scrubbing his hands clean, W'ser closed the door to his
office and struck off for the flight rooms.
Jodeth, on the other hand, was a regular, especially when it was a
greenflight. The brown readied himself as he watched this new green
and wondered just how this would go. Did she know how to fly well in
the colder air?
P'nal, unfamiliar with the rider in question, simply followed his
dragon's urges and went to the mating cots. He still didn't know who
she was when he saw her, but accepted it. The Wingsecond didn't get
too close, but he did comfortable-leaning against the wall. He saw
W'ser and nodded to the other brownrider.
Nirreth flexed his wings and buffed his chest, eyeing the green with
desire. G'nir wondered how they ever got anything done, with Nirreth
chasing so eagerly. And P'nal was here too, G'nir nodded a brief
greeting to his 'Second. He recongnized the green's rider as one of
U'kaiah's women, the one who had transferred from Dolphin Cove. Now,
this was Flight he would enjoy to win.
The brother's, Sh'lua and M'shan found themself at the same Flight
again. Sh'lua wiggled his eyebrows at M'shan. "Good thing that
_you're_ not a greenrider," he grinned at the young brownrider.
"Faranth forbid! Besides we already have way too many Green flights to
dodge," M'shan replied.
U'kaiah had been buried deep in the Record Room when the call came
out, but Kalamath was more than happy to oblige him with a ride, after
making a quick turn above the feeding grounds so the glowing green
would be sure to have a chance to admire his glistening bronze hide.
His rider did not take a place in the circle, but instead strode up to
the greenrider to make sure his presence was known. "Sorry I'm late,
lover. You know I wouldn't miss this for anything."
Tavia threw a grateful smile up at U'kaiah. She wasn't shy but this
was new territory for her and she was unfamiliar with the riders now
surrounding her. "I'm glad you're here," she said. Just then Sawauth
screamed her challenge at the gathering males through her blood
dripping jaws and shot into the skies above the Weyr.
And it didn't take long for Jodeth to be up right behind her. The brown
may not be as fast as the green but he was no slow lumbering bronze.
He also knew the skies above Dragonsfall a lot better than Sawauth and
would use it to his advantage.
Nirreth bellowed his challenge and leaped to the air. He was the
Weyr's prime bronze, who didn't want him?
Juth, a young brown, was eager and almost tumbled in his hurry to get
into the air. He still hadn't caught anyone and was over eager to
prove himself.
Galerith was actually bit slow in getting into the air. Two mating
Flights in a two days did wear him down. He might be big and sturdy
blue, but he was still blue and lacked the strength of bronzes.
Branth wasted no time in getting off of the ground and squeezing in
front of some of the smaller dragons. The dark, rusty brown dragon was
a patient dragon, and yet his experiences with W'ser in the dragon
infirmary had taught him a lot about using that patience to produce
the best outcomes.
Kalamath was already in the air after her. He had lost Kjarliheth's
Flight the day before, and he was all the more determined to catch at
least one of his favorite greens! But as much as he had plenty of time
to admire her up close, when it came to Sawauth in Flight, he was on
level with every other dragon in the chase. He could only hope his
experience, and his amazing charm, would win out in the end!
Sawauth was a wily and experienced green and pleased with the quantity
of brown and bronze chasers, But she wasn't ready to be caught yet and
taunted the ones closest with a flirt of her tail. }:Too slow, you are
too slow to catch me:{ she cried and flew higher still.
That produced a growl. Not yet frustrated though, Jodeth tried harder
and pushed to catch up. He had strength. He could do what needed done.
He would show her what a Dragonsfall male had. Growling into the air,
he pumped his wings, propelling himself through the clouds. The sky
was his plaything and he would win her as his trophy.
Nirreth called out his admiration, staying hot on her heels. The
bronze was feeling confident.
Galerith was lagging behind. Catching the green yesterday, he still
felt the strain on his muscles. He tried to resort to trickery and
predict her twists. He was taking a big risk but he was losing anyway.
Her taunts just seemed to fire up Juth. The brown pushed onwards with
the energy and euthiasm of the youth.
Kalamath hung back just a bit, waiting to see what she would do.
Would she climb? Would she dive? Twist? Or just try to out-fly them
straight. He was watching eagerly, his eyes always on her gleaming
body waiting for any hint of what she would do.
Sawauth craned her neck around there were several very nice browns
quite close. They were normally her preference but she dodged the
closest of them and darted instead into the path of a very handsome
bronze.
The bronze bugled his triumph as he wrapped his tail around hers.
Simultaneously, his human counterpart took his prize in his arms. This
was an outcome they could all share in, Kalamath and U'kaiah, Tavia and
Sawauth. Finally all four could share in the elation of their chosen
mates.
Nirreth trumpeted his disappointment and turned to return his ledge.
G'nir shook off his disappointment in a willing woman's arms.
Tavia's arms wrapped around U'kaiah's neck as she was carried away.
