Description: Railen and G'len chat by the weyr lake.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 19 of Turn 4
There he was, by the weyr lake. G'len had seen the record of Lenlee being transported to the Weyr, and had been surprised to see that Sorsha had chosen to return as well, and Railen with her. "Hello," he greeted the young man, wondering if Sorsha was nearby.
Railen lifted his gaze from reigns he had brought to work on while enjoying the view and sounds of the lake. He offered the Weyrlingmaster Assistant a smile and nodded politely to him. "Hello Greenrider G'len. How do you fare?"
There was no need to insist that his title be used. "I'm well. Preparing for the Hatching, as I'm sure you are. I was surprised to learn that you and Sorsha decided to come." He had also hoped that she would have contacted him for transport to the Weyr. But, that was a somewhat foolish thought.
"Ah yes, well...we talked about it." Should he tell G'len about the dreams? Railen didn't think so. They might be a bit too private to Sorsha. "I thought she should have the chance to Stand. I didn't want to take away the opportunity just because of me."
G'len couldn't argue with that logic. Of course, he was very biased, but he was uncomfortable with the idea of Sorsha, or any girl so young, marrying and settling down. Perhaps some time spent at the Weyr would remind her of the many opportunities unavailable in Holds; the best of those being the chance to Impress.
He forced his thoughts back to the young man in front of him. "Is this your first time here? What do you think?"
"Actually, no, I was hear for a hatching a while back." Railen admitted with a half smile. "A friend stood but didn't impress. I think that's helped my transition - a little anyway."
"And Sorsha is fine?"
"Yes, she's doing very well." Railen smiled at the mention of his wife. "We got married, actually."
"Oh!" G'len exclaimed. "Congratulations." He didn't quite know what to do with this new information. Marriage wasn't a completely foreign concept at the Weyr, but it was especially rare with candidates. "You know what will happen if either of you Impress, right?" Sorsha, and others, should have told him, but Railen needed to understand what their future might hold.
"Yes." Railen nodded. He had been told time and time again. Some had even seemed to think that getting married at all was a foolish endeavour. Not to him, though. "We're well aware of what will happen."
"I guess I'm not the only one who has mentioned it." There was no need to lecture him. If one, or both of them Impressed, they would understand why dragonriders never married.
"No, you're not." Railen smiled a little. "It's something we're prepared to deal with. For now, we're going to enjoy it while we can."
"Nothing wrong with that. And Lenlee? I haven't seen her around." He hoped he would be able to at least wish her luck before the Hatching.
"Oh she's around. Busy like me with various candidate duties." The girl was so excited over the upcoming hatching, Railen sincerely hoped she impressed. She'd be so disappointed if she didn't and she only had this one chance. "I'll let her know you wish to see her."
"That would be wonderful." It would be nice to get to know her a bit more. "Are you done for the day? Or are there more classes or chores to be done?"
"I've got more chores, I fear." Railen gave an almost rueful smile. "But it keeps me busy while Sorsha is occupied as well, so I suppose it's not so bad."
"Keeping busy is always good," G'len agreed. It was a poor substitute for becoming a dragonrider, but it at least gave candidates a taste of what their lives would be like if they Impressed.
"Yes, it is. I'd rather be kept busy than wait around doing nothing." Railen admitted. "Good day to you sir."
"Good day. And, good luck."
