Description: Barthella offers to be G'len's partner for the Tavern's Turn's End celebration.
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 13, day 13 of Turn 4
Notes: Mentioned: Zandreu
G'len shrugged out of his weyrhide jacket and stood in the sun for a
moment, letting its warmth take away the chill of /between/. Then,
before his eyes became too used to the bright light, he entered the
Tavern. It was early in the day and the room was all but empty, but
pleasant smells from the kitchen already filled the space. Looking
around first to make sure Zandreu wasn't there to stop him, G'len went
to the kitchen entrance and poked his head in, hoping Barthella was
there.
"G'len!" Barthella greeted the greenrider with a brief hug, "If you
keep making these frequent visits I'll have to start putting that big
girl of yours to use."
"Uh-oh." **Did you hear that?**
}:I'd carry things? Fun things?:{
The greenrider rolled his eyes. "I thought she'd be offended, but
she's actually curious."
She gave a snort then turned to toss some onions she'd readied into a
pot, "I _was_ joking, but I am still looking for someone to transport
those big Western Red Stripe here for the Ball..." She'd never actual
impose on a Weyrlingmaster Third, but if he volunteered she wasn't
going to refuse him.
"If the Hatching weren't so close, I'd offer my services. However, I
shouldn't spend much time away from the Weyr," G'len admitted. "You
haven't had any luck finding someone?"
"Not yet, but I'm sure one of the younger riders will agree to help
for a mark or two." Barthella wasn't worried, there were always
willing helpers for Turn's End.
"That's reassuring. I haven't eaten Western Red Stripe in what feels
like Turns. However," he leaned in slightly, "I still haven't found a
lucky person to attend the celebration with me. Have you managed to
find an unwitting woman, or man who still needs a companion?"
She hesitated. She'd talked to several people, and many had been
interested in a dragonrider companion... until she mentioned he rode
green. In the end she hadn't had any takers, but she didn't know if
she should tell him, G'len was her friend and she didn't want to hurt
him. "Actually, I was hoping you'd be _my_ date for the evening.
I'll be occupied most of the night in the kitchens, but I should be
able to sneak away for a few dances."
"Oh!" That was unexpected. "I would be honored." That could make
for an interesting night. He would have plenty of time to mingle with
other guests and try to convince them to dance with him. "I think
that would be very fun." It was definitely an arrangement he could
warm up to. "And, I'll make sure to get you out of the kitchens.
Knowing you, everything is already organized and will run smoothly."
"Excellent." She was pleased he wasn't looking into the offer too
deeply. "If you want, I could show you my dress, that way we don't
clash." she motioned to Neddie to look after what she had simmering.
"That was going to be my next question." Then he could choose which
of his outfits to wear. Too bad it wasn't a costume party, with
masks.
Barthella grinned as she weaved him through the corridors to her room.
"Like minds greenrider, like minds!"
